OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard :: Mac Mail: It Won't Accept Icloud/ Mobileme Password
Feb 20, 2012
I'm having problems with mac mail. It won't accept my icloud/ mobileme password. So I'm unable to get my mac email on mail... It was working fine for years, no suddenly not...
I followed Roger Wilmot's clear instructions to migrate to iCloud using Snow Leopard: [URL]
But having set up the account, iCloud in Apple Mail will not accept the password. I have checked, and the password is the correct one, which gets me into MobileMe correctly. I have not deleted my MobileMe mail account, and that is still working properly, and accepting the password. The password is a new one, which complies with 8 characters, at least one capital, and at least one numeral.
Something is wrong with my mail client. Even though I am 100% certain that the password is correct (I get mail on my iPhone and when I log onto iCloud site), my mail will not accept the password. I've tried even to delete the account and set it up again, but that doesn't work either.
I just switched to iCloud from MobileMe, and my Mail program now tells me that my password is not correct. I've gone so for as to delete the account and add it again, and it still will not accept the password. I know the password is correct, it works on this site, as well as directly in iCloud, and on my iPhone, it's only the Mail program that it won't work in.
since today mail and my icloud account dows not accept my password. when i go whith safari into my icloud i can log in with my apple id and the related password.
I followed the steps outlined in [URL]to move my Snow Leopard's MobileMe mail account to an iCloud account in the Mail app (deleted the old MobileMe account from the sidebar and followed the steps to create a new one for [URL]. Before doing that, I had gone online and changed my very old AppleID's password so that it conformed to the new requirements. I also set up the MobileMe in System Preferences to be using that new password. It seems to be happy with the new setup/password.
I can get my iCloud mail on my iPad and on my MBAir when I use Safari. But the Mail app continues to loop, asking me to enter my password -- and then informing me that "The MobileMe IMAP server "imap.mail.me.com" rejected the password for user [URL]I compared my Mail settings for the new iCloud account to what's given in the instructions and cannot spot anything amiss.

Why have the Mail servers seem to have forgotten my password, when iCloud and Apple servers have not?Username and password are the same for all). Why,when Apple had a much better system than Windows, does Apple tyr to be more and more like Windows: more complicated and less useful?

When I tried to check my email on my mac this morning I got a message saying the account was offline. It asked for my mobileme password which I put in but it was rejected with the message:
"The MobileMe IMAP server “mail.me.com” rejected the password for user “xxxx.xxxx”
Enter your password again or cancel."
I also get this pop-up message when I re-enter my password:
"There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for account “MobileMe” or try again.
The server returned the error: Moved: [URL]
I know the password to be correct as I've signed into both my mobileme and icloud accounts online. I switched to an icloud account several weeks ago.

I presently use Mobile Me for emails and back up. Mobile Me shuts down in June 2012 so I am looking to move to iCloud however the site tells me to download Lion which is fine BUT our Broadband is not able to download Lion as we live in a rural location. The Macbook I have is Snow Leopard.

Mail 4.5 started to get wonky a couple of days ago- taking forever to load. All of the the imap server began rejecting my password which had not changed for months. So I retyped it. Nothing. Quite mail and restarted mail. Nothing. Deleted the account, restarted & reloaded. Nothing. Restarted the machine. Launched Mail, nothing. Check for updates, nothing. Can login directly to iCloud and works fine on my iOS devices but nothing on good ole' mail.
i cannot get into my mail account it will not accept my password i cannot receive mail or send mail any ideas ??? the fault reads as follows "the smpt server [URL] rejected your password
now i understand i may have forgotten it but i only use 3 passwords and ive tried all of them any way to reset this?
I am having problems with my mail on my MacBook. It is asking for enter password for account, I put my password in then it comes saying"the MobileMe imap server "mail.mac.com" rejected it"?
I have an older Power PC Mac that runs OS 10.4. Mail does not accept my password on this computer. So I can neither send or receive mail. While my Intel Mac that runs Lion & iCloud accepts the same pw and works fine. What should I do? There is no update for Power PC Mail application. Is this time to discard this older Mac completely?
I have a Dual 2ghz PowerPC G5.I'm positive the password is correct because I enter it all the time in my other mac hardware/applications. I tried deleting the mail account them re-adding it, it still rejects my password. I can't update any of my software (nothing is available). I've tried restarting the computer.Safari still works. All my other apps still work. I selected PowerMac as the product on the pulldown menu, I hope that's the same as PowerPC. My OS is 10.4.11

I've opened a secondary email account and Mail won't accept the password. I can send OK but not receive. But when I check with bigpond online the test emails are both sent and received but only sent through Mail - tried changing the password many times, quitting app, restart, and even delete that mail account and reenter - all to no avail
so after my friend got his gmail account hacked I decided it was time for a new password. Updated it in gmail, on my iphone and iPad and no problems. However friggin' Mac Mail refuses to accept the new password. I even wrote it out in Text Edit and pasted it into both the gmail web interface and mac mail. Gmail web interface works just fine but Mac Mail refuses to accept the new password.
Is there any way I can fix this save for deleting my gmail account and recreating it(something I am want to do since I have a metric ton of messages).
Oy, Apple ignoring these tiny bugs is getting quite annoying....
For what its worth I'm on 10.6.4 and everything else is up to date.
Update, now I'm getting "The server returned the error: Web login required. (Failure)"
but it doesn't clear when I log into the web mail....
I cannot seem to get my apple mail to accept my gmail account or the password. Gmail works fine if I use the google site for my mail.I know if I am using the correct password because it works in gmail's site?
I'm unable to move to iCloud because my MobileMe password is not recognized by my Mac.There's no link for "Forgot your password" so I can't go back and change it! How can I move to iCloud with this problem? Also, the password doesn't work on my iPhone either.

My now old MobileMe is not accepting my password, so I can't get in to manually change my account to iCloud on my 10.6.8. It doesn't give me the option to reset my password...I'm just denied access..
When I turn on my MacBook,Mac osx pops up and asking for my password but it won't accept it.I need to get out of the page but how? Even when i insert the disk i' the same way.
I changed my password in iCloud & now Mail in Snow Leopard rejects the new one (including old ones I have used). All other products (iPad2, iPhone4 & iCloud) are fine. I restored using Time Machine, Backup & even reinstalled Snow Leopard using original DVD. Even deleted mobile me account in preferences then restored from older backup.
