I have been using a 1GB pen drive to transfer data from my Mac to a PC. However, I am finding that strange directories are being created on the drive and it is causing the drive to get filled up.Also, when I go into the USB drive through Finder it shows as being empty. a 'du' returns this
View 4 RepliesWhenever I transfer data from my MBP HDD to an External HDD, the folder it creates to copy that data to has a created date of, wait for it.....14th February 1946 at 8:34am. And how to change it so that the dates are correct (i.e. today!) When the folder finishing copying all the dates are fine. It's just that bit in-between whilst it's copying.

Lately my computer has been rediculously slow with everything, but aside from that my issue is with my start up disc. I would have over 1.5 GB of space left, open up a photoshop file...make some alterations and save...and all of a sudden I have NO SPACE left. These alterations created the photoshop file to be like 50mb more. Its a 200mb file. So how can I go from 1.5 gigs to saving a 200mb .psd file and all of a sudden 0 hd space?
Sometimes I couldnt even save the .psd because when I opened it all of a sudden I have half a gig now. And even if I had half a gig why wouldnt I be able to save? I go to save and sometimes it says "your start up disc us full" - Is this different than my harddrive?
Is photoshop using some sort of weird caching thing?

I bought a 3rd party battery for my MBP. I put it in and after cycling the battery i noticed that the full charge capacity was only 3990mAh (supposed to be 5500mAh). I returned the battery today and got and an upgraded replacement. this shows the full charge capacity at 4995mAh (supposed to be 5600mAh).
is this normal. Do I just need to give it some time or is it something with the batteries.
Why is my Mac not at 100% battery after having it powered off and plugged in charging all night? As long as my charger is plugged in shouldn't it be at 100%? I never unplug it. It shows it is charging but stays at a constant 98%.

Does anyone know how accurate the 2010 macbook pro wifi signal strength monitor is? There are times I have full bars but my internet is really slow, or stops working all together for a few minutes. I THINK, because I'm on a different floor than the router, which would explain reduced signal. BUT my computer says I have full bars.

I've been trying out mac for some weeks now and one thing is just pissing me off is.. whenever I download a file with Safari.. Lets say a Zip or RaR file.. it will unzip this files, and then place the original zipfile into the Trash!
How do I disable this lunacy? seriously there is no order in my download folder when the OS starts to act on its own like this.. It's just annoying because it even starts unpacking large 2GB files which I DONT want.
I've just installed Google Drive, but it's created a series of duplicates with a "(1)" inserted in the filename. Quite maddening. Is there any way to quickly search for filenames that contain (1) so I can quickly separate them?

for some reason, several of my Garageband files have ended up in this location: /.trashes/501/ folder. when i'm running garageband, i can open a couple of them with the Open Recent feature. i cannot find them on the computer though and need to transfer them to another drive.

However, when I check the info on the startup disk it shows that I only have 300mb-5GB left depending on the day. I have deleted all unnecessary files that I can. I can't really find anything else to delete. I only have a couple programs installed that are pretty basic like word and excel.

all threads are outdated from 2006 and 2007 as far as I looked, or has a different issue. My macbook is a 2009 model running 10.6.4, using a linksys router, signal will drop for no reason. The bars are full, but nothing will connect. NO messenger, web browser, or downloading software will work, like its dead. This usually happens if I keep my computer on over night for huge downloads (1GB+).To fix this, I just have to click on the airport icon on the top right corner of my screen, choose disconnect, wait 3 seconds, then choose reconnect and it will work again.

Today I created a partition on the wrong drive ( where all my family pictures and videos are ) and now I can't access the drive at all.
I am guessing the files are still there but I am clueless on what to do.
I have a 1.67 GHz Powerbook G4. This morning it was fine. When I got home from work, it decided that it suddenly no longer wants to stay on when not plugged in. The battery is showing a full charge. The light on the plug is green. But the second I unplug the cord from the laptop, the entire thing shuts down.
View 6 Replies View RelatedRecently, I was installing Windows 7 on my Bootcamp partition, and the installation was going fine, but I ran out of energy so the installation was interrupted. I boot my Mac OS, opened Bootcamp and erased the partition just to create it again and install Windows once again. However, when I loaded the installation from my DVD, I got an error message saying that a CD/DVD driver was missing, and it found no hard drives even after rescanning my computer. When I chose browse, I was surprised when I saw not 2, but 3 partitions, one with my MAC OS, the new Bootcamp partition, and a drive called X: that was created when the past install got interrupted.
I've tried erasing the partition in bootcamp over and over, but I can't erase it, even though Mac OS tells me my drive now consists of a single volume. Do I need to format my whole drive? Do I need to install OSX? Will I lose all my applications and data? In case you need it, here's some info:

I've made a movie project in iMovie 7, but it's taken 3GB of space on my hard drive and I am lacking space right now, so I need to move it out onto a external hard drive. I'd like to be able to recreate/edit the movie project on another computer.
How can I do this?
I was editing an attachment from an email. When finished I did a 'save as' and did not pay attention where the default save was located. When I tried to find the file it was not easily located in the usual places. Finally, I found it in an apparent folder labeled "mail downloads" My question is what is this file - temporary files? Can the files in this folder be deleted to free up space? Will I lose the attachments from emails in my box?

Drive still accepts and ejects discs as usual. Problem happens with all kinds of discs, CDs and DVDs.
I even tried replacing the drive with a brand new one, still nothing showing in finder.
I have a MBP with a dead hard drive that I am trying to resurrect. The MBP was working one minute then it just froze up. On reboot I got the flashing folder with question mark meaning it couldn't find the OS. I tried to access the drive remotely from target mode but it wasn't listed. I pulled the drive and hooked it up to an SATA to USB cable and tried to access from other systems but again it wasn't displayed.
