Whenever I transfer data from my MBP HDD to an External HDD, the folder it creates to copy that data to has a created date of, wait for it.....14th February 1946 at 8:34am. And how to change it so that the dates are correct (i.e. today!) When the folder finishing copying all the dates are fine. It's just that bit in-between whilst it's copying.

I'm able to move the document upon clicking on its icon however it is not accepted by the folder I lay it over including laying the document in the opened folder's column.
Newbie from windows to Mac SL. I download two programs for my Cannon scanner and found them installed in Applications. I created a new folder called Cannon and moved both programs into it. In the folder, there is now a file called "Open in Finder" as well which I did not add.
Question.
1. Is it ok to move files into a new folder this way?
2. Is it normal to have "Open in Finder" also inserted in the folder?
Reason I am asking is, when I initially run the scanner program I get this multiple colour ball momentarily. It is almost as if the OS is looking for the location of the scanner program - similar to an hour glass in windows. Therefore, should I delete the folder I created and reinstall the scanner programs? If so, should I delete the programs first, then the folder, or go ahead and delete the folder with the programs in it?
I have this nagging problem for a while, all the "date modified" in most of my folders (application, documents,utility, libraries, download, etc.) are wrong. They all show up with january dates, some this year, some previous years. Recent modifications are noted as "today" and "yesterday", beyond that I get january dates.My date and hour preferences are set ok. Repaired permissions quite a few times, nothing changed. Waited for few system updates (10.7.3 - 10.7.2 - 10.7.1) hoping it would correct itself, but no.

I created an alias folder for my Applications. I put the alias on my Dock but when I click on the alias it will open Finder window. I would like it to show my applications in Stack mode. I have copied another folder and put that on Dock and it appears fine with Stack options. I have no idea why my alias of Applications opens Finder.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have multipe accounts on my Mac. Two of them need to share certain files, but not with everyone else so I can't use the Shared folder. When I create a new text file with AppleScript it has default ownership to the account that created it, but I need to give read & write privilages to it to the other account as well. I can do this manually, but there are lots of files sometimes. One trick I've found is to reset privilages from the next higher folder. This saves time, but sometimes I forget. Also when I do this it causes Time Machine to think all the files in that folder have been updated. If the folder is large it may cause Time Machine to purge a old backup version. What I'd like to do is find some AppleScript code I can use to add user "A" with read & write access to the permissions of a new file at the time my AppleScript creates that file.

Ever since installing Snow Leopard, whenever I create a new image in Photoshop and save it to a file, and then I go into that file to look for it, it is missing. The only way I can find the file is if I enter the name of the image in the finder window and do a search - then it says that the image is in the image folder - where I put it - but when I go there, it isn't there. So the only way to find and then open that newly created image, is to remember what I called it, and then enter it's name in the finder serach window. The other problem that I notice with Snow Leopard is that the newly created icon images in finder are all blurry. The blurriness seems to be random. Some are, some are not.

I am trying to set up a folder action to do the following... When a file is added to the "images" folder a new dated subfolder would automatically be created, and the file would be moved to this new dated subfolder.
Here's what I have so far (which I'm sure is way off base)
1) Folder action receives files and folders added to "Images"
2) Filter finder items - Find files where ALL of the following is true: Kind is ANY
3) New Folder - Name is "_" Where: "Images"
4) Add Date or Time to Finder Item Names: Add Date to folder name
5) Move Finder Items: This is the step that I'm stuck on. I don't know how indicate the newly created folder in step 3
Another question I have is how to make automator check to see if there's already a subfolder with the current date and put the file in that subfolder instead of creating a new subfolder with a duplicate name.

I suddenly found a folder named "ꁴﲝ痄䕨" in my Mactintosh HDfolder that was created a week ago.
I have no idea who/what created this file, and in what language it is..
the folder was empty, but still it looks suspicious.
Of course - file sharing is off (and firewall is on, but i don't think it matters).
I'm trying to remember if I installed anything a week ago, but I'm not sure.
I like to keep my 'documents' area of the finder uncluttered, but lots of pieces of software, such as 'Bookends', Microsoft Office and others put folders there each time they are opened.
To try to move them, I opened the prefs of Bookends and moved the folder location to a better place, but every time I open the software it just puts a new folder in 'documents'.

I have a 25K Aperture library that I've transferred from computer to computer over the years. Lately I have notice that a few picture have changed dating. When I try to correct the date I get a splash screen saying that I can't continue because the picture is locked or I don't have permission.

Using the Finder in 10.5.8, pressing Cmd-F to get to the Search window. I want to look for jpeg files created during December of 2008. I first specify file type = image, press the + to add another constraint, choose "creation date before" . . . today's date comes up by default, with little up/down arrows at the right to allow changes. Well, the arrows do nothing, and I can't edit the date string directly. The only change I'm able to make is when holding down the Alt key, which allows me to use the little up/down arrows to cycle through the months (but not days or years).

For some reason probably the result of mistakes in synching, I have multiple entries of dates mostly birthdays showing in my iPad and MacMini. I can delete then one at a time,but with 156 repeats in one case, it becomes tedious. Where can I find the fields to delete the extra dates?

I want to be able to do groups at a time. Like all photos taken on a birthday, and for pictures I do not know the date for, dated to the date the person in them died.
When I click on a group of photos Aperture changes the dates in a relative fashion rather than an absolute fashion. IE If I scanned the images that were taken on the same day but were scanned 2 months apart, the date that appears on one is correct, the other 2 months off. I would like to change the dates to specific day in time.

I set a date in my iphone and it goes off correctly. however when i sync my iphone to my macbook all of the times are set two hours late in Ical.
I USED to live in las vegas which is two hours earlier than houston where i currently live however my macbook is currently set for central time so i have no clue how to trouble shoot this.
just for example, if i set a reminder at 1pm to wash clothes, it goes off correctly on my iphone, but it will set and go off in Ical at 3pm.
My iPhoto Videos are appearing in iMovie '09 with the wrong dates and times, but the dates and times in iPhoto are correct. Rather than adjust the info manually, is there a way of correcting it?

At first (all of a sudden out of the blue) I could not enter Time Machine mode for love or money despite clicking on the enter time machine action botton, however I could run a 'backup now' at any point and this appeared to go through as well as the hourly automated ones. Then switching Off then back On Time Machine suddenly allowed me to enter Time Machine; however I am only able to access the finder windows for any local 'white tick' backups which in my case were only for the last several snapshot backups for today... but if I try and access any dates after this right back until November 2011 last year, nothing happens at all and the date/backup markers are completely unaccessible. Incidently, all of these previous 'purple tick' date markers (time machine backups/snapshots on external firewire 800 drive) were accessible before, but know they can't be accessed even though they corecctly index the appropriate dates right back until November.
I'ts worth pointing out that I've had many glitces and random problems since using a Thunderbolt Display which is where the external hard-drive containing the time machine backup is hooked up to. A seperate recent issue is constantly losing sound on the Thunderbolt Display which requires a reboot to get it back temporarily, but this is a seperate issue but may be related if the cause of a number of problems may be originating from the TD.
The external disk drive containing the time machine backup image, appears to be online ok as I'm able to access the drive in a normal manner.Has some kind of special links nature or association relasionship between the Time Machine program and the external drive and backup disk image contained on it been disrupted or broken? If this is the case, can they be re-linked or re-associated?

I recently got a MacBook Pro after having an iPhone and iPad since last year. I have iCloud set up on all devices to share calendar dates. However, when I input an event on iCal on the MacBook everything is fine and the event shows up on my iPhone and iPad calendars, but when I input an appointment on my iPhone, it will not update to the iCal on MacBook.

Day X: Mail 1 arrives in my Apple Mail Inbox, Shows the date as Day X.
Day Y: Mai 2 arrives in my Apple Mail Inbox. Shows the date as Day Y.
Day Z: The date shown for May 1 is Day Z. The date for Mail 2 shows as Day Z.
This does not always happen, but seemingly is happening more and more.
I have tried quitting and restarting the program. Rebooting Mavericks (Late 2008 MacBook Air). I upgraded to Mavericks when it first came out and didn't see this problem right away.
I have also quit Mail, changed the time zone in System Preferences, Quit and reopened System Preferences. and changed it back to the correct time zone.
