MacBook Pro :: Only Showing Screensaver - Show Display When Preferences Opened?
Sep 9, 2010
im using that converter which converts the mac port into VGA and im using a VGA to the tv and its only showing the screensaver. NOTHING ELSE. Also strangly enough it does show DISPLAYS when I open the prefrences.
I bought my MacBook Pro in 2009. My desktop and screensaver preferences were working and then all of a sudden disappeared (after a year or so).I've read a lot about re-installing Mac OS X and a lot of other tricks. Can someone tell me which one is the most reliable and least risky? I'm not very tech-savy and worried that somehow some of my other applications or options will disappear.
Until now I have been changing my desktop pictures using iPhoto or by right-clicking on a picture in the internet.
Info:MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2009), Mac OS X (10.5.8)
I tried using a couple third party screensavers. Followed the instructions by dragging the .saver file into the screensaver folder in my library, but cannot retrieve the screensaver itself in system preferences.
I just plugged headphones into the headphone port on my iMac(dual core 2.4) I went to system preferences, sound, then output and only the internal speakers show up. I rebooted the machine and still, same thing.
I tried the same headphones on the eMac sitting next to it, and it worked just fine. Still confused about the iMac
Using 10.5.1, no problem up until now (new 2.8 iMac). Working all day with Adobe Lightroom 1.3.1, again, no prior problems. The computer froze, which I noted when the screensaver when I left to go eat dinner stayed static without fading out to a new picture. After force quitting and restarting, I went to the System Prefs and when I went to the Desktop/Screensaver section, I got a blank window. I confirmed all the other System Prefs icons work fine. It's as if the Desktop/Screensaver settings are erased/gone/whatever.
I was cleaning up some of the unused pictures that came pre-installed with Leopard on my iMac, such as the abstracts and solid colours, that are used for changing the desktop backgrounds; but after getting rid of the original pictures and folders I am still left with the folders as being able to be selected when I try to change a desktop background.
I can't use the minus sign to remove the folders from the list.
Is there some other way of removing the folders?
It's not really a big deal, but it is kind of annoying having empty folders showing up on the list.
Latest update of lion and all updates done.. gettint the error message when trying to open .. the Application System Preferences can't be opened. -600..
So my friend and I played a trick on an intern here at work who just got a new MBP. We swapped his background out for a vista one - real simple, right.
Well, he got back and had a good chuckle about it UNTIL - the system preferences panel crashed after he tried to switch it back.
So here is the only symptom: Open system preferences Click "backgrounds and screensaver" window opens, looks ok window closes and error screen pops up saying "system preferences unexpectedly closed"
I have a mid-2008 Black Macbook that is giving me issues. Any time i go into the system preferences, my last window up will be shown, then when i go back into the main menu and click on what i want (Desktop & Screensaver), i just get the rainbow orb of death. The system preferences then show not responding and i then have to force quit the system preferences. Can somebody please tell me what is going on and why it keeps doing this, and how to prevent it from happening again.
Whenever I want to open an image or document on my external display, it is displayed on the primary display (the MBP one). It's annoying, the image or document should open on the display from where it was double-clicked.Â
They show a blank space for all the accented vowels. If I open the same document with Safari, it's the same. But with Chrome, it works perfectly.Â
I assume there's a problem with fonts, but, nothing wrong with fontbook (checked duplicates for instance).Â
Last information : it looks ok within chrome on my Imac, but the issue comes back when I try to print from chrome app...the accents are gone on the sheet.Â

I have a few wmv vids on my mac. Up until recently they were all fine. When I went into the folder the all files showed the Qicktime logo on them and played using flip4mac. Now the files are just white with no logo on them and when I click to play one it brings up the message "This movie could not be opened, The file is not a movie file." I have tried reinstalling flip4mac and quicktime but I still have the same issue. Someone told me to try perian but still nothing. I am guessing this is a problem with the files but not sure how this happened or how to fix it.
I use a Mac Mini to launch iTunes with library saved in an external drive. Now my Mac Mini retires and I replaced it with a new one. I launch iTunes on the new Mac and reconnect to the library in the external drive.Â
How come my wav files are shown in correct albums in old Mac but shown in unknown albums in new Mac? What must I transfer from the old mac to new mac show wav files in their right places?Â
I have tried importing the library xml file but it didn't work.Â
I have an external monitor that I attach to my MBP to watch movies. Is there a way to turn on my screen saver or power down the screen on my MBP when I'm watching a movie on the external display?
I'm having a really hard time trying to find a nice freeware screensaver that will run in my TiBook with dual displays. I was wondering if anybody here know of a good freeware screensaver that will work with these requirements: Must run well on TiBook in dual display mode (667MHz G4, 1GB RAM, 16MB Rage 128) Must be somewhat cool/interesting.
I love the iTunes artwork screensaver that comes built in to OSX. Basically, the screensaver is displaying all of my podcast 'album covers', where as I really just want it to show the album covers in my music library. Is there a way to get the screensaver to ignore the podcasts? I was thinking maybe the easiest way to do it would be to move the podcasts folder in my iTunes library to another directory rather than in 'music', but would that mean iTunes would save new podcasts to the new directory or save in the original automatic spot?
My screensaver comes on like it should, or comes on from hot corner, but won't stay on. I've tried a number of things including:
-Trashing the prefs file (Library>ByHost>com.apple.screensaver.....plist) -Starting from they DVD and fixing permissions and verifying/repairing the startup volume, -Quitting all applications (I thought it was Time Machine or Chrome, but no) -Making sure "wake for ethernet" is off. -Disabling Bluetooth.
It'll stay on for a minute or less, and then stay off. So I'll come back and my display will be on. It also wakes up if I set the display to go to sleep.

I have a 24" ACD plugged into my iMac, and they work well together (other than the ACD needing a boost, but we'll discuss that some other time).
I can't seem to get backgrounds to stick; I set a background on both displays, but whenever the machine wakes up from sleep or a screensaver, it's back to the default nebula/star field of Leopard. When I try to once again set those displays, the folder containing the pics, which had been added to the preferences interface, has disappeared from that pref pane.
I was using my MBP when I noticed that the display (the built in one) looked a little washed out. To make sure my color profile was set to the correct one, I opened up the display panel in System Preferences. The moment I opened it, the display snapped back to its regular appearance. As far as I can tell, it goes into the washed out version after going to screensaver and coming back, and going into display prefs is the only way to restore it. Anyone seen this before or know how to keep it from doing this?
my late 09 mac mini is showing a 3rd display called vga display and when i mirror it only lets me have 1024*768 i was wondering how can i get rid of it i am thinking it came from an app for my ipod touch that lets u have a part of ur macs display on it but i cant get rid of it of the vga still even after i removed the app
I know by the title you may be saying... here comes yet another post on iPhoto. But I have a suspicion it is much more than that. thus the post in the OSX category. Here is the short version...
I use to have a MacBook Pro (17" if that matters) with OSX 10.5 on it. Back in August '08 I bought a iMac (24") because I had to give the MacBook Back. When I set up the iMac I did the install that allows you to transfer your settings and files to your new computer before I erased everything on the MacBook. Some how I lost a bunch of Pictures I took and had on the MacBook. I just can't find them... i didn't have iPhoto on the MacBook but do on the iMac.
I thought I had lost the photos until one day I pointed the screen saver to my photo folder. Now I can see my photos in the screen saver slide show... but can not see them in iPhoto or in the Photo Folder.I have hope that they are somewhere on my computer but where and how can I get them into iPhoto?
iCloud does not show up on my system preferences, even though I just downloaded the newest iTunes, and the latest software for my mac. How else can I download it to my macbook?
