MacBook :: Run And Install Lion On It?

Apr 3, 2012

Can I run Lion? Also, if I install Lion on this computer but NOT my iMac (I'll probably replace the desktop computer within the year and have decided not to install Lion now since the new machine will have the latest system), will that cause any compatibility problems in exchanging files? I want to have Lion on the MacBook so that I can exchange files between an it and an iPad using iCloud.

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Re Install Lion & Then Install Itunes + Docs + IPhoto From Time Machine?

Apr 12, 2012

Ever since I downloaded iplayer - my mac has been running slow. I have followed a few tips to remove it and all other related files - but it still runs low (spinning wheel of death) and now pdf's dont download correctly (I guess I have deleted too much).

My ideal would be to start from scrach - although I want to keep my itunes and iphotos files as well as my documents. Is there a way to reload back to factory settings then add selected programs and folders from timemachine? I am in the process of timemachine backing up everything now.

MacBook :: Lion 10.7.3 Fresh Install?

Feb 14, 2012

"reinstalling lion 10.7.3" and "installing lion 10.7.3" without success?I have a "MacBook Pro Early 2011", which came with Snow Leopard, at the time Apple was offering a free Lion 10.7.2 for free, which I got but not in a DVD, download only and I recently updated to Lion 10.7.3. Today I used my wife's MacBook 2006 with 2GB Ram and the machine was faster to respond than mine with 4GB ram, so I would like to re-install Lion 10.7.3 from scratch. I have the partition with with the Recovery HD, I assume it is Lion 10.7.2. Since I only have the Snow Leopard DVD, what would be the easiest and better method doing a Lion 10.7.3 fresh install?

MacBook Pro :: 5.4 3rd Party Hdd - Can't Install SL Or Lion?

Apr 26, 2012

I know everyone who have macbook pro 5.4(Mid 2009, 2.53Ghz) trying 3rd party hdd(such as Segate and Western Digital Scorpio black) or SSD have a problems like 1. can't install SL or lion 2. occasional freezes every 7-8 seconds and etc. The last solution I saw on the other discussion forum was downgrading the EFI firmware from 1.7 to 1.6. Without downgrading EFI firmware to 1.6,I'm wondering if Hitachi Travelstar 5K750(5400rpm, SATA2) or 5K500.B(5400rpm, SATA2) or 7K500(7200rpm, SATA2) - any of this is going to work on my MBP 5.4. Does anyone with those Hitachi HDDs have a problem?

MacBook Pro :: How To Erase HD And Re-install OSX Lion

May 9, 2012

I got a new macbook pro. I tried installing windows on it via bootcamp...To cut a long story short, I messed up the system. Now the PC doesn't start and when I run the system, the apple logo just shows with the chime. Nothing more. I din't back up anyhting.

If the system manages to start, immediately I log on, the computer logs itself off again. Im simply tired of all this and want to erase mac osx lion from my mac book, then re-install it again. How to go about it?

I know pressing Command +R then going to recovery will open recovery. Then I click on disk utilities. But then, selecting which hardisk to format?

My hard disk had no partitions, but then trying to format it, I see a larger disk with a different title, then under it, I see "Macintosh HD". Which of them should I select to format to do the job? the main HD or the sub one under it "Macintosh HD"

I totally hate this, considering the fact that I have to buy about $60.0 worth of credits to re-download osx lion from the net. My macbook didn't come with a cd you know..

Cannot Re-install Mac OS X Lion On MacBook Air Mid 2011

Jun 23, 2012

While my McBook Air was was updating some features of Mac OS X Lion; something went wrong with the network and the update failed a couple of times. After I shut down the pc and tried to start it up again, it seemed like it was starting up but it turns itself off. It just goes in the same loop of startuing up for 5 seconds and before the login screen, it shuts down. The apple logo appears and the turning stick runs a little then it shuts down.I tried to repair disk using disk utilities in the Lion Backup Option, it failed. As I did some research, I need to do it using an external source; but I was not able to create an USB Stick starter without having the OS itself.I try to open the command window in the beginning to start a disk check; but I cannot open the command window. No combination works. When I try to reinstall Mac OS X Lion, I can proceed uptill the point you select the hard drives; but all the drives are locked so I cannot select any of them.

I'm looking to sell and have a prospective buyer when I realized that I wasn't sure how to do a clean install of Lion for a potential buyer. Do I need to buy a copy of Lion from App store in order to do a clean install for a new buyer? Is there a way to clean the HD of my user profile and info without reinstalling Lion, or do I need to do a clean install? How do I do a clean install if necessary?

MacBook Pro :: Lion Clean Install Stuck In Mid 2009?

May 29, 2012

Mid 2009 MBP here. Original disk was failing so I replaced it with a Seagate Momentus XT and Lion refused to install. Formatted the drive correctly and made sure it was GUID partition. Even went as far as removing a memory module because I had heard that having more than 2 Gigs could cause issues during installation. Also made sure that the drive had the latest firmware.

Flash forward and I returned the drive and got a Western Digital Scorpio Black and have the same problem: Stuck at 21 minutes.

Currently installing with a 10.7.3 USB drive. I've tried numerous times with a 10.7.0 disk as well as the original Snow Leopard restore discs that came with the machine. Is the mid 2009 just incompatible with these drives?

MacBook Pro :: Install Final Cut Studio 2 On New 15" With Lion?

Jun 20, 2012

I just purchased and received a new 15" MacBook Pro (non-retina) last week. I need to install Final Cut Studio 2 on this computer. I have researched this and found that I need to install Rosetta from the Snow Leopard DVD in order to do this. This is the first Mac I've bought ( although I've been working with them for years), so I don't have a Snow Leopard DVD. I am a high school teacher and we use FCS 2 for my classes so buying FCP X is not a viable option for me since I teach FCP 6. The iMacs we use in school run Leopard and were never upgraded to Snow Leopard (budget cuts and all), so I can't even borrow one from my district.
