Jun 9, 2012my MBP 17" back from 2007 initially came with 200GB 5400-rpm drive. I'd like to uprade it and can't really figure it out what's the maximum size and type of the drive I could fit into it now?Â
p.s. would you also reccomend to me upgrading to mountain lion, once it becomes available in the summer?

May 14, 2012Replacing a SECOND failed hard drive on a mid-2007 white macbook (Intel core duo 2.16GHz), this time on my own  Need to purchase a serial ATA drive, but I keep reading that trying to format and/or partition the drive for use with the original Tiger install disk is unsuccessful and that I would have to update to a newer OS before I can do that. I have Leopard as the current OS, and that is in my backup files from Time Machine, but I do not have a disk with Leopard. Wondering the best course of action and/or if someone had success wit ha particular Serial ATA using the Tiger disks?

Oct 30, 2010My main computer is a MPB17 with 256gb SSD and 750gb HD in an optibay. I have huge media libraries and like to have ready access to all my photos and videos. I have a Gen 1 Air that I use at home for mail and surfing and I have been using my iPad for mail and web when out. I have a max spec 11" Air arriving this week. It weighs the same as my iPad with Vaja case so I'm going to take it everywhere and leave the iPad for a reader in bed. Now I'm starting to think I might leave the 17" in my office and sync the 11" Air up and use if when I'm out. Problem is I want a fast, light USB drive to hold my media. Ideally with USB and FW so I can sync it fast with the MBPro.

Sep 1, 2009Got a new MBP last month to replace my white MacBook - loving it as an upgrade but one gripe - if I'm sat using it on my knee I regularly hear the "click" type noise of what I imagine is the protection of the hard drive because it thinks it is being dropped.
I never heard this on my old Mac and while it's not a huge issue it is a bit disconcerting, as though I'm being told off for moving it in a fairly responsible way.

Jul 27, 2009I have an aluminum unibody macbook from October 2008. I'm looking to upgrade the 160 GB hard drive inside to a 500 GB one I'm considering from Newegg. Would it be possible to migrate/copy/clone the entire contents of my current hard drive to the 500 GB one? I also have a section of my current hard drive partitioned for Bootcamp. Would this affect my ability to transfer everything over?
If this is possible at all, how can I go about doing so? If there are steps laid out somewhere, I'd appreciate a referral. Sorry if my question is a little elementary, but I did a search on these forums and also google and nothing really came up
MacBook Pro :: Cloning Entire Hard Drive To An External Hard Drive
Mar 31, 2012Recently I bought 2 identical WD Scorpio Blue 1TB hard drives for my macbook pro 13 inch 2010. My aim is to replace the internal hard drive with one of the two I just purchased and use it as my system drive with Lion, Windows and Data partitions. And for the other hard drive I want to use it as a full disk back up for the internal drive (now 1TB hard drive). After I was done with setting up both windows and mac and data transfer, when I booedt into the recovery partition from the internal drive to clone the drive to the external drive, the disk utility gave me this error (Could not validate source - error 254). I also tried using Carbon Copy Cloner but it only could clone partitions, not the entire drive. Yesterday I downloaded a copy of Clonezilla. It worked fine until it had to clone an exFAT partition (my data partition). The exFAT partition appeared as 'RAW' partition in clonezilla. As a result, the whole partition appeared to be full and clonezilla had to copy every single blocks of data in that partition and the estimated time remaining was about 30 hours. So clonezilla is out too. Just want to ask if there is any program/application (bootable or not) which allows can do a full disk clone to an external hard drive.

Notes. Failed HDD ASD Test.  A new hard drive was installed in September of 2011 after the previous hard drive failed. Having worked well until now the system seems to give the same problems as it had previously. I am wondering if this is a compatibility issue as others have pointed out. Â
I have been told by the technician my only option is to replace the entire hard drive again for the second time with a new one. However to my understanding a ASD test is very specific and this my not be necessary? Further I am attempting a final backup just in case. I don't have to take it in where I could just back it up myself without the system shutting down.

I have a hard drive enclosure, but I was wondering if when I install my 500GB hard drive, would I be able to use the enclosure to transfer files from my 250GB drive? '07 model MBP core duo running OS4.11 + original Airport (hey it still works). The MBP will only stay connected now if my base station within 10' or so. It might connect 30' away, but looses the signal after loading a few pages online. It seems like its getting worse -- maybe not, but seems like it is. I can connect just find with my other MBP, iPod (streaming audio across the house, etc) and PS3.
MacBook Air :: Won't Hold Battery Charge
May 12, 2010In the last two weeks, my Air will not hold after I Shut Down or Suspend, battery seems to work fine if I'm using it (drains normally). When I turn it on it's at 0%. Plugging it in will charge to 100% in ~30 minutes. Did SMC reset did not resolve problem. I don't believe there are any hardware issues.. Will a format fix this? All software is up-to-date.

Jun 17, 2009My 15" early 2008 MacBook Pro won't shut down unless I hold the power button. I have done extensive searches and have done the following and the problem still persists. I have pulled the battery to reset the SMC or whatever it is called. I ran disk utilities and repaired the permissions. I deleted unnecessary files in the preferences folder...... still no go..... in fact it won't load software updates because it gets hung up.... then I have to force quit it by holding the power button..... I am at a loss.

Jun 7, 2012My wife's Macbook 2.1 is acting strangely. The Battery indicator led's are full (green) the charger led is also green and the software shows 100% battery is charged. After a couple of seconds after disconnecting the charger it switches off. I've tried resetting the SMC and this allowed a full nights use without the charger but on the next day it went back to only holding for a couple of seconds. I don't want to have to reset the SMC every day. It's running on 10.5.8 and is all up to date.

Aug 29, 2014I have never backed up my Macbook 2.1 duo before yesterday. While in the process of backing up I was using photoshop, and my computer froze. I waited 30 min and then decided to shut it down. When I tried to turn it on it will not boot-up, I only get the grey screen of death. I had just recently upgraded to Snow Leopard this week. I used an external DVD drive which seemed to cause issues. So I thought I might be able to use that to install a clean version on this busted drive, well nothing worked, tried holding option key, holding down the C key. I ordered another drive that says its compatible with my drive. Since the my mac doesnt seem to acknowledge my drive, I bought an external housing for my new internal. I want to format and load Snow leopard onto the new hard drive using my girl friends mac. then put in my macbook. I would like to know if this will work? how I need to format my drive in disk utility.. Is it possible that it is not my Hard Drive?
Another side note, I just upgraded my RAM from 1GB to 4GB on my Macbook 2.1, I did try and putting my old ram back in just incase that was the issue.
