The underside of my MacBook has been recently getting ridiculously hot but seemingly only the top-left portion of it, not the battery or the optical drive. I installed the iStat Dashboard widget and it gave this:
View 16 RepliesI have a Macbook with 320GB HD, which I previously stopped using and passed over to my wife. When doing that, I created a new user for her and deleted my old user and the associated folders and files. This was a few months ago. Lately I noticed my wife's HD is too full than I would expect, so I started trying to clean it up using all the recommended SW. No matter what I did (reveal hidden / system files, use designated applications etc.), I could only find ±100GB worth of files. So, the Disk Utility shows the HD has one partition of 319GB, out of which 292GB are is use. When I search for files, I only get ±100GB (indcluding everything).
I did "Verify Disk", "Repair Disk", "Repair Permissions", emptied caches, trash -- still no sign of the missing ±190GB. The same when I ran the disk utility prior to logging in (using CMD+R during restart).
I have a feeling this is somehow related to the deletion of my old user/profile. Can it be that this portion of the HD is not accecible to my wife's user/profile? And so these files cannot be accessed?

I've searched everywhere, and i can't find a thread or video about removing the whole top portion of the mbp off. all i have found was how to replace the screen, but not the actual top with the hinge etc. when i close my mbp, the top part isn't aligned properly. the right corner of the bottom half of the unibody shows, while the left corner has a portion of the top portion overlaying the botom portion. hopefully that makes sense. is it hard to remove the whole top? how do u do it? is it worth risking my warranty?

The breakdown were in separate uncompleted mail/mails depending on the length of the email. Everytime after a simple email of about 3-5 sentences comprising of less then 30 words, 5 - 10 separate trash box mail appeared. it worst when duration is longer while creating the email.

Can imovie do the following, and if not which program you suggest?I have some movies i converted from dvd to mpeg. Some have scenes I want to delete from the movie. I have tried iMovie and i managed to remove a portion I did want. But, now im not able to save the movie after i have edited that portion. Seems like it just keeps it as "my project." any help regarding how I can manage this.The i7 works fast with this but it takes me forever trying to figure this out!
View 2 Replies View Relatedhow much would the repair of this damage will cost? geesh i forgot to remove my iphone wire/connector that was resting in the keyboard of my mac, then suddenly i accidentally closed the screen of the laptop. then afterwards, i heard a cracking sound. plain carelessness. what should i do? will the replacement of this damaged glass costly? i do hope MacCenters in Manila can fix this. i'm heading tomorrow to the nearby MacCenter.

-High quality capturing (720P)
-Portion of the screen capture(Not the whole desktop)
-High frames per second capture (not jerky, but smooth)
I expect to make some compromises but I'm just looking for the best software that will fit the most of my needs.
I've got a large PDF document where I only need a few pages from the original PDF to email out. Is there any open source or freebie software for OSX that can help me out here? Its only a one-off so I'm trying to avoid paying out for something (and also I'm a cheap-skate!)

I can't seem to find a way to do this! Can this be done w/Ical? If not, does anyone know what software I can use to do this (Word now uses Entourage when I try to make a calendar with it & I have the same problem w/Entourage!) We don't need/want to upload the whole calendar.

I have to force quit now when in InDesign if I use the number pad by mistake. HAve repaired disc permissions and disc, am at wits end.

I maintain my ITUNES Library on an external hard drive. Recently I had a power outage. When power was restored I clicked on my ITUNES before I turned my external drive back on.
More the half my library is now missing. When I click on a song I get message that file cannot be located.
i have matched my itunes library but itunes still is taking up a big chunk of my hard drive. i want to get rid of it but want access to my cloud library of course. am afraid to just delete the library as it exists now. simply put i just want to clear up space and still have access to my library in the cloud.

Someone at work recorded a screen capture video. Within the frame, there's good material but a lot of garbage around the edges that I don't want (what Sally Hogshead would call "screen crapture"). The good stuff lasts the entire duration of the clip, is not perfectly centered, and does not move at all in its placement or change size throughout the clip.
If I crop or trim, I can eliminate the garbage, either making it transparent or black (there's no other clip beneath it to show through) easily enough. Is there a way to then export just the desired portion of the video frame (the non-cropped good stuff) as its own video at a smaller frame size?

I'm new here and was hoping for some feedback. I got a new 2.8 Imac and had it replaced after the Power Supply Position was idling at 82 degrees Celsius, and the top of the case felt very hot to the touch. The fans never "kicked in" even though it was that hot. Anyways, I got a replacement machine and the Power Supply Position now idles at about 68-70 degrees Celsius (much cooler), but the external portion of the machine still feels extremely hot. So my question is, how hot is too hot?? Is my machine normal and am I worried about nothing?? Should I be using SMC Fan Control?? Is the heat because of the 2.8 processor??

Maybe two weeks into my purchase of and Aluminium MacBook, I spot something that looks like dust under my screen. I have tried scratching and nothing is there, as well as glass cleaner and a microfiber cloth. But it doesn't appear to be a dead pixel, as it's there when the screen/MacBook is turned off. It even looks like it's under the screen. It's in the middle horizontally, but more towards the left of the screen, yet still enough to be prominent.

The left fan has stopped working so now the left side of the laptop is considerably hotter than the right. I'm from the UK and so is the laptop but I'm traveling around the US at the moment so I was just gonna take it into the next Apple Store I come across.
Also, if I do take it in, what are the chances they'd charge me to fix it? My applecare expired, typically, about 2 months ago.

View 24 Replies View RelatedThe left fan in my 15 inch 2.16Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo died, so I bought a replacement and fitted it myself. Before I put everything back together, I turned it on and checked the fan started spinning, and it did.
Even now, when I turn it on I can hear the replacement fan spinning, so it's definitely working.
Last night, whilst watching a film, the bottom of the macbook got REALLY hot, too hot to even touch, then it kernel panicked and turned off. So I installed iStat and it shows the left fan as running at 0rpm, even though I can hear it running and feel a slight blow. It just doesn't seem to be winding up when the mac gets too hot like the right hand fan does?
I've noticed (actually the past few months, but it never really annoyed me until recently), that my left fan will spin really fast and very loud a few times during the day at random moments. Sometimes I will leave my computer for a few minutes, and it won't be doing anything difficult (just finder, or something not cpu intensive), and it will be blowing like crazy when I come back. These "episodes" last for a few minutes and then return to normal. Activity monitor shows that my cpu is barely being used, so nothing is taxing the system. Weirdly enough, when this happens, istat says the fan is at 0 RPM, yet it is very loud. I cleaned out my fans with a little keyboard vacuum to make sure there was not dust stuck in their, but it still makes those fan noises occasionally. I even did the Apple hardware test, and nothing showed up. I have a late 08 MBP.
