MacBook :: Finding CAC Reader Set-Up?
Apr 10, 2010
I want to use my CAC reader on my MACBOOK. I am currently operating with OS X 10.6.3. My reader is SCR 331. The MACBOOK sees all of my certificates and allows me to enter the url for the new identity - I have been entering "[URL]. When I get to the site via Safari it asks me to input the pin number and then it drops the connection after I enter the pin. I am wondering if there is a step that I missed between Safari and the CAC Reader.

I just "upgraded" yesterday from a Power Mac G4 to a 17" MacPro. Among other adjustment problems, I can't open PDF files. The message I get is "You can't open the application Adobe Reader because it is not supported on this kind of Mac."
I've tried downloading the latest version of Adoobe Reader, an although it seems to download, I can't find it.
How do I deal with PDF files on a MacPro?

Is there such a thing? I know you can open them in TextEdit but the formatting is a little messed up most of the time, same with Notepad in Windows. Once I switched to DAMN NFO (Windows NFO reader), formatting was great.

OSX 10.6 won't play nice with my old CF card readers. From reading online discussions, it appears I need to buy new 10.6 compatible card readers. Anyone know which CF readers currently on the market will work with Snow Leopard?

I love Google Reader, but it doesn't support authenticated feeds and to keep a tab with my univ's rss feed I'd like a reader that does support that. So instead of spending my time trying out a bunch I'm just asking if anyone who have and got a preference in that respect? I've been using thunderbird under win and linux for the same purpose, but if there are better alternatives I'm all open.

I read a lot of blogs for my business for research such as marketing tips, product releases new, etc. I've always tried to figure out the best way to keep up with the multiple sites and either just browse the sites or use services such as Twitter or Email Newsletters I've talked to PC users and many of them suggested using RSS Feeds and I recently got Pulse for both my iPad and iPhone and it's been wonderful. I like the design and how it works but the only problem is a limit of 20 feeds. This covers many of the feeds but not quite all that I want to subscribe to.
What is a good option for using on the Mac? For web browsing I use Firefox, Safari, and Chrome and for email Thunderbird. If I'm correct these offer options for RSS feeds. How do these compare to other feed readers for the Mac. Are web based/cloud versions better? I"ve heard of options such as Google Reader.

I'm running osx 10.6.4 and Adobe Reader is giving me fits. It doesn't play well. How do I change the default PDF reader from Adobe to Preview or iArchiver? Adobe Reader just grabs hold of the download and won't let go.

I was looking for a Safari Reader-like add-on for Firefox and finally stumbled on Firefox Reader, which seems to have more customizations, and options. Has anyone else tried it? What are your impressions?

I just tried NetNewsWire, and Vienna, NNW is nice but Google Reader has a great feature that these both are without.
In GReader, when I mouse over or scroll down it marks that one article as read. No pushing buttons, clicking next, nothing. Just read.
I want to be able to pre-download all of my current unread items, AND the pictures. Gears for GReader does NOT download the pictures. I have a lot of picture only feeds, like lolcats, that I would like to let build up for a week and then on my long plane ride home, check out.
In NNW I can smash the space bar and get this accomplished, but I'd rather just scroll through, or at least have the option to.
I don't really like the look of Vienna, it's too unpolished, NNW is a tad better and has better options for like the prefs.
It would also be interesting to be able to give specific instructions, or adjust certain settings on a per-feed basis. Such as filter out cartain keywords (Without using a service such as feedrinse).
I hat vienna because once I click on a feed, it marks everything as read. That's bad for me as I sometimes just open a mega feed and read one or two items. I have maby 20 or 30 feeds, but usually get 2-300 new items a day. Most are junk like Joystick, but I like to sit down and go through the important ones while im taking a break or eating lol.
I know you can't but it'd be interesting to allow some feeds to auto queue an embedded movie, let me view it offline (or off my VPN.

I have a USB all in one card reader that doesn't seem to work when I connect it to my Macbook. It's an aluminium Macbook running snow leopard.
Ordinarily I would suspect that my 2.99 card reader is faulty and just buy a new one...however I also have an iMac, and it works perfectly with that.
Any ideas on what's wrong with my Macbook??

I used to do DSLR photography with CF, but fell out of love with it and sold it, so now it's back to regular old SD for my point and shoot. I'm looking for a card reader that obviously supports SD, but I'd like some type of all-in-one so I can throw most anything at it. I'd also like it to be flush with the computer when inserted.

I am ready to purchase a MBA; however, I am in the Army and have to use the Army ID card (CAC card) to access certain areas on Army websites. Does anyone know if the software required to run the CAC card reader can run on the MBA OS or will I have to use Boot Camp or some other software to run MS Windows vista or 7?

As in my other post I have just bought a Mac Book Pro 13" laptop. I am in the learning curve as I have only worked with Windows for the past 22 years. On my HP I had a built in fingerprint reader and I software installed that kept all my passwords (in a database on my pc, NOT in any cloud or web based program) I use to log onto websites, logon to my computer.I am looking for the same type of software and a fingerprint reader (small usb no wires if possible) for this MacBook. Also, every time I download and install a application, I get a pop up asking for my credentials, how can I get rid of that "feature"?

My wife's Mac Book Pro (around 18 months old) gets an error message when she hooks up our Canon camera. It says the USB is drawing to much power and has been disabled. She has downloaded 1000's of pictures without problems and now that message pops up. And she doesn't have anything extra plugged in since the last downlaod around a week ago. Also the SD card reader isn't working. When the card is plugged in nothing happens and we can't find the card in iphoto. So now she has no way to get the pictures on iphoto. It's not the cord or the card because I can download them without any problem on my Windows computer.

Lately, my macbook pro has not been recognizing my SD card reader. SD cards do not mount, and it looks like the computer is not recognizing the SD card reader at all (When I check About This Mac -> More Info -> System Report -> USB, the card reader does not show up). I've never had a problem before, in the ~3 years I've had this Macbook. I'm running Maverick.

I just ordered a sonnet express card 21in1 card reader for my early 2009 MBP 15" (the last one with the express card port) anyhow I chose this one because it sits nicely flush with the MBP body. My question is would it be ok to leave the reader in the computer all the time? (without the card) i have my computer sleeping like 97% of the time. I would like to just leave the expresscard in there but dont know if this would be ok.
