Fingerprint Reader And Software For MacBook Pro OSx 10.7.2
Mar 24, 2012
As in my other post I have just bought a Mac Book Pro 13" laptop. I am in the learning curve as I have only worked with Windows for the past 22 years. On my HP I had a built in fingerprint reader and I software installed that kept all my passwords (in a database on my pc, NOT in any cloud or web based program) I use to log onto websites, logon to my computer.I am looking for the same type of software and a fingerprint reader (small usb no wires if possible) for this MacBook. Also, every time I download and install a application, I get a pop up asking for my credentials, how can I get rid of that "feature"?
I am using an iMac desktop with version 10.4.11. Are there any fingerprint readers that will fill in my passwords successfully or will they only allow me to sign on and then I would have to use apple keychain? If there is no fingerprint reader that will fill in passwords successfully can you point me to detailed instructions on how to use keychain?
Flashfxp and a couple others are the only apps for windows that support these features. I've tried Filezilla and a few other mac applications and have had no luck. I'm trying to avoid installing windows on vmware or bootcamp. So far i've found all my apps that I use on windows (or alternatives) on my mac. If any ideas
I'm running osx 10.6.4 and Adobe Reader is giving me fits. It doesn't play well. How do I change the default PDF reader from Adobe to Preview or iArchiver? Adobe Reader just grabs hold of the download and won't let go.
I was looking for a Safari Reader-like add-on for Firefox and finally stumbled on Firefox Reader, which seems to have more customizations, and options. Has anyone else tried it? What are your impressions?
I just tried NetNewsWire, and Vienna, NNW is nice but Google Reader has a great feature that these both are without.
In GReader, when I mouse over or scroll down it marks that one article as read. No pushing buttons, clicking next, nothing. Just read.
I want to be able to pre-download all of my current unread items, AND the pictures. Gears for GReader does NOT download the pictures. I have a lot of picture only feeds, like lolcats, that I would like to let build up for a week and then on my long plane ride home, check out.
In NNW I can smash the space bar and get this accomplished, but I'd rather just scroll through, or at least have the option to.
I don't really like the look of Vienna, it's too unpolished, NNW is a tad better and has better options for like the prefs.
It would also be interesting to be able to give specific instructions, or adjust certain settings on a per-feed basis. Such as filter out cartain keywords (Without using a service such as feedrinse).
I hat vienna because once I click on a feed, it marks everything as read. That's bad for me as I sometimes just open a mega feed and read one or two items. I have maby 20 or 30 feeds, but usually get 2-300 new items a day. Most are junk like Joystick, but I like to sit down and go through the important ones while im taking a break or eating lol.
I know you can't but it'd be interesting to allow some feeds to auto queue an embedded movie, let me view it offline (or off my VPN.
I want to use my CAC reader on my MACBOOK. I am currently operating with OS X 10.6.3. My reader is SCR 331. The MACBOOK sees all of my certificates and allows me to enter the url for the new identity - I have been entering "[URL]. When I get to the site via Safari it asks me to input the pin number and then it drops the connection after I enter the pin. I am wondering if there is a step that I missed between Safari and the CAC Reader.
I have a USB all in one card reader that doesn't seem to work when I connect it to my Macbook. It's an aluminium Macbook running snow leopard.
Ordinarily I would suspect that my 2.99 card reader is faulty and just buy a new one...however I also have an iMac, and it works perfectly with that.
I used to do DSLR photography with CF, but fell out of love with it and sold it, so now it's back to regular old SD for my point and shoot. I'm looking for a card reader that obviously supports SD, but I'd like some type of all-in-one so I can throw most anything at it. I'd also like it to be flush with the computer when inserted.
I am ready to purchase a MBA; however, I am in the Army and have to use the Army ID card (CAC card) to access certain areas on Army websites. Does anyone know if the software required to run the CAC card reader can run on the MBA OS or will I have to use Boot Camp or some other software to run MS Windows vista or 7?
I have a few SD cards, but when i plug it into my macbook pro 15 in the card is read only. I am unable to write (i.e. move, delete..) frm the SD card. I've tried the lock at both positions both doesnt work. Also, the cards are fine when read on windows.

My wife's Mac Book Pro (around 18 months old) gets an error message when she hooks up our Canon camera. It says the USB is drawing to much power and has been disabled. She has downloaded 1000's of pictures without problems and now that message pops up. And she doesn't have anything extra plugged in since the last downlaod around a week ago. Also the SD card reader isn't working. When the card is plugged in nothing happens and we can't find the card in iphoto. So now she has no way to get the pictures on iphoto. It's not the cord or the card because I can download them without any problem on my Windows computer.
Lately, my macbook pro has not been recognizing my SD card reader. SD cards do not mount, and it looks like the computer is not recognizing the SD card reader at all (When I check About This Mac -> More Info -> System Report -> USB, the card reader does not show up). I've never had a problem before, in the ~3 years I've had this Macbook. I'm running Maverick.

I've got two great compact flash readers, but one has firewire, and the other has the wrong usb connector... so they are stuck with the mac pro. Anyone has any idea of the fastest usb card reader? I'm not a fan of waiting for 4 gig cards to unload.. back to back.... Don't make me use my mbp.
This thing gets impossibly hot. Today I unplugged the charger after filling the whole battery and I got burned. I am no joking. I am trying to find a temp reader as I never experienced anything like it.
I just ordered a sonnet express card 21in1 card reader for my early 2009 MBP 15" (the last one with the express card port) anyhow I chose this one because it sits nicely flush with the MBP body. My question is would it be ok to leave the reader in the computer all the time? (without the card) i have my computer sleeping like 97% of the time. I would like to just leave the expresscard in there but dont know if this would be ok.
i miss the expresscard a lot on the 15", but i need as much portable CPU power as possible so upgraded to i7.? i was using expresscard slot for CF reader for my DSL now i never use the SD slotany adapter from CF -> SD port ?or USB port -> SD slot adapter?
So here's a weird one. I have a Macbook Pro 15" (MacBookPro 8,2). SD card reader reads my SD cards just fine on the OSX side of things. I have Windows 7 x64 installed as well, with BootCamp 4.0 drivers installed, everything is fine (including device manager saying that SD card reader drivers are perfectly fine), except the card reader absolutely refuses to read any SD cards. I've tried several of them. The laptop isn't even aware that a card has been inserted. Anyone have any ideas? I'm stumped (which rarely happens, give the fact that I am an IT consultant by day). I've reinstalled the drivers for the SD card several times.
I am working for my eagle scout rank and in order to do my service project, a form must be filled out on the computer as a pdf. I started the PDF on my old dell, and i downloaded Adobe reader for my mac to finish it. For preview, it takes the lines of the paragraph and overlaps the words, rendering it unreadable, and for adobe reader, the words are invisible unless editing those words. when the text box isn't selected the words disappear.
I am unable to get my Macair (2011) to pick up a card reader (with CF card) inserted in a USB slot. Have tried all the Systems Preferences adjustments mentioned in previous posts
USB ports mount regular USB devices on MBP Retina but will not recognize cards/reader. Card reder is a Lexar Professional USB 3.0 Dual Slot Reader Reader. Any idea why it is not recognized?
