I've read up on Speck brand plastic covers for the MBP line. Unfortunately, many claim the case adds to the aluminum case being scratched than without.Unless you've had good experiences, what other brands of case protectors exist, that are worthy of purchase?

BUT, the black plastic hinge cover is cheap and creaks as soon as I grab the computer or open the display. I opened her up to see if there was anything I could do to reinforce it or something, but I didn't want to mess with it.
Quite a few seem to have this 'issue' and I thought maybe somebody has figured out a solution?Such a shame on an otherwise perfect machine. I would have preferred the same kind of rubbery plastic that was on the old generation MBP
I just got a 13" MBA last week and noticed that the black plastic hinge cover moves a bit and makes noise when I push it lightly.
It also rattles when the fan blows hard. I took it to the Genius Bar but they said that the hinge cover is designed that way.
I checked a few demonstration units and they didn't seem to have the same amount of play. Is this normal?
picked up a unibody last Saturday night, and opened the battery cover tonight. The latch was opened with little resistance, but now won't close. The latch edge sits about 1/8" up, and I can't find anything which would seem to prevent it from closing.
Anyone else had a troublesome battery latch, and how did you resolve it?
How do you delete incorrect cover art and replace it with the correct cover art?

View 2 Replies View Relatedi have, in the past, had my macbook's palm rest crack. I brought it into apple, and was happy to have it replaced, free of charge. Recently, the plastic cracked again, this time in a new place. The plastic border above the screen; more particularly the area directly above the indents that come out to help separate the screen from the keyboard. I'm not sure if this is covered by Apple's policy with cracked palmrests. Any advice or help is appreciated of course. If you think Apple won't help me, would it be risky to use an adhesive to hold the plastic down, as it's near the screen?

Mine looks as though there may be one to peel off, but I want to make sure before putting too much effort into trying to get it off... Anyone else peel one of these of their new MacBook Pro?
View 6 Replies View RelatedThe plastic piece which is visible when the notebook is completely closed is the part that is loose. I can slide it side to side, and it makes noise occasionally. The screen doesn't seem to have any play in it, but im not sure if it is just an outer cover over the hinge or the actual hinger. My wife's macbook air has the same problem.

I was thinking about possibly selling my MacBook Pro and purchasing the 11.6-inch Air because I'm a college student who doesn't need much more than word processing, web browsing, iTunes, and portability. But I hear that the Airs don't have the glass covering of the Pro... Is the screen itself plastic or glass and does it scratch easily?

I finally lost (seems so, at least ) that little semi-clear plastic cap shaped like a rectangle with rounded edges that covers/protects the connector of the MBP power supply when it's not connected to the computer (and being transported).....at least, that's what I used it for.
I did a quick search and couldn't find any relevant posts, so sorry in advance if this has been addressed.
Does Apple or someone else sell a replacement for such a dinky little thing.....although, frankly, I found it to be quite useful to protect the connector .

View 6 Replies View RelatedI installed an invisible shield on my macbook pro, and was concerned about how suceptible it may be to get water, or another liquid in the top of the lid via the apple logo? You spray the solution on the shield and then squeegee it around with some force, is it possible to get liquid inside the case via this boundary? Even something like a spray lcd cleaner or a damp cloth? How well sealed is the transition between the aluminum and the plastic of the logo?

I didnt notice it at when i first got the unit, but now it seems to be getting progressively worst. Also was wondering, does anyone else find the case flimsy around the ports on the left handside? It's not my primary computer, but it's still nice to bring to school with me.So my question is, does anyone make an aluminum replacement case and topcase for the plastic macbook? Only the topcase is damaged but after however many years with the same laptop I'd like a change (not a huge fan of plastic in the first place).
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I use my computer, at random times, I hear a popping noise that sounds like it's coming from the plastic hinge without me moving it. I think this has happened on other 13" models I've toyed with, but I can't fully remember. Everything else works great and it doesn't happen super often so I think I'm just going to deal but does anyone else know what's up? I think it might be the heat coming off on the plastic hinge causing a popping noise every once in a while but not sure... computer works great. Also, it's not the sudden motion sensor clicking for sure. I know what that sounds like.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI was cleaning my 17" MacBook Pro today (purchased in March, 2011), and when I was cleaning near the screen, I noticed that the black plastic of the hinge made cracking noises as I ran my cleaning cloth across it (and every time I do it now with my finger). I have never had this happen before. Is this a known, harmless defect or is it something I should get looked at by someone at an Apple Store (still under AppleCare).

I just upgraded my MacBook with a larger hdd. But I forgot to put the plastic tray thing back on and the hdd is now stuck. How would I go about getting it out? I really don't want to have to take the laptop apart and it's not under warrenty.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a 2008 13" white, plastic MacBook. Its a bit slow, but adequate. Thinking of selling it and paying the difference to get the 11" MacBook Air. I've heard it is similar in speed and has the same processor.
The main problem I have with my current MacBook is that its heavy - I need something lightweight to easily carry to school and class for note-taking and such.
How is the Air better or worse, and would I be losing anything significantly by replacing the 08 plastic MB with a MBA?

My powermac g4 digital audio 733mhz smells like burnt plastic (or what appears to be toxic fumes) whenever its powered on. Everything works fine when using it, except the smell. I've since stopped using it, since it really is hard for the nose and head. I was wondering what are the causes for that smell. If no solution is found, it might possibly be taken back for recycling or whatever they do with old computers at the university.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAnyway, I was thinking about upgrading the airport card in my powerbook to extreme, so I pulled out the battery and flipped the latch to find that the plastic tab to pull it out is missing. I sense a pain to get it out now, I haven't tried, though. Any tips on how to get the card out of its compartment without bending the aluminum etc? Also, there is a tiny nip in the little cable that plugs into the back of the card, I can't tell how bad it is, the WiFi works but doesn't that cable connect the card to the antennas on the top of the LCD on the system or worse.. to the logic board?

I have a question (whoa). I have an iMac Dual Core, bought in mid-2007 (it's the White Plastic version, not the newer Aluminium with the glass-display).
For some time now I had some dark spots, kind of shadow like in the bottom left corner. I wasn't bothered too much by them, but they got bigger, and now I have these in all of the corners except the bottom right one.
Anyone got any ideas how to get rid of them? (no, no three-year guarantee plan ... stupid me), or if not if it'd mean to replace the whole display or if it's just some cleaning (I talk money-wise here ...)
I attach two not-so-good pictures (the background is plain-white and the image is a bit enhanced ...) so you guys can see what I mean.
IS IT OK that a newly purchased iMac -intel Lion- gets So HOT That it smells like Burnt Plastic,Not Warm but Hot!!??.. Just only by using safari-reading mails or newspapers- And playing Radio with VLC??!!!!...Or i must throw it away before it explodes??!!...Since Not possible to contact direct Apple to replace it !!!!..-they send me automatically from one adress to the other And No reply

I just bought a clear speck case for the MBA. I noticed that the case weighs a little bit and when the top cover is on, at a certain angle, it closes the MBA due to the sheer weight.
Over time, will this loosen the hinge?
On another point, how the **** do you get the top cover off easily? I scratched the cover with a credit card the first time around! The thing is almost impossible to pry off!
