I wanted to change the admin picture that I have when I log into my computer. But when I click on account preferences, nothing happens, and my user account icon is missing from my system preference. How do I get it back, or am I not able to change those login account pictures.

I know that this is not recommended but it's been like this for a while and I'm considering setting up an Admin user and dropping my account down to a standard account. I click on it and noticed that my home folder is mounted as a disk image under "Places." By "home folder" I meant the folder found at MacintoshHDusers ame-of-folder. I did not shutdown and login again, I logged out back to the main login screen, then logged in again under the same account. Shutting down the computer before logging in to the same account prevents this from happening, but logging out then logging back in causes it to happen.

ok, i installed 4gb (2x2)of ram in my alum macbook pro 2,4ghz 15" and in the 1 first time i didn't took off the battery but it went well and booted ok, after that i turned off the computer and the next time keeped making noises.
i tried put the old ram and it's everything ok, i tried both ram slots and memoryes and the 1rs booted ok alone but the second didn't, what is happening, it's the second ram damaged or have you another explanation?
I recently purchased a powerbook G4 running version 10.5.8. I am able to login to everything and set my username as the administrator, but I can not set a password for it, if i try to input a password or change the password I get an error message saying I have input an incorrect password. When I purchased the computer everything was blank except for the user name was set as mac user, as I said I was able to change the username but not the password.

So is there anyway to go back to change this?I have tried restarting and completely shutting down the comp, and taking admin rights off and putting them back on.

When the computer turns on and the login screen appears the name of my computer "John's iMac G5" is under the big Mac OS X heading. Normal, but what isn't normal is that the computer adding numbers to the end of it's name so the appears like so "John's iMac G5 (2)" and currently that number is up to 5. So I assume it will change the name to have a 6 relatively soon. I was just wondering what is causing this? If I try to delete the numbers from the name, it just starts back up again within a few days. I am running Leopard version 10.5.8...this never happened when the computer had Tiger installed on it.
View 3 Replies View RelatedEvery so often I boot or reboot my computer and the "Computer Name" changes by adding a number 2 to the name, for example my computer at home is called "Dilbert" and when I boot I notice the has changed to "Dilbert (2). When I try to change it back I get a dialog box that tells me "The name of the computer "Dilbert" is already in use on this network. The name has been changed to "Dilbert (2)". To change the name of your computer, open the System Preferences and click Sharing, then type the name in the Computer Name field." BTW, this is the field I am in and attempting to change the name in.
View 8 Replies View RelatedMy computer name keeps changing. I thought it was my printer network that was causing it but now I see that the "new" name is ACTIVE in Network-->WINS of System Preferences. It shows the computer's WINS-->NetBIOS Name as Name-2. And it says it is active.
To turn it off so I can disable it? What it is and how can I keep it from changing again? Why this happens (see above).
I do have MS Office on the computer and I have locked down changes to my Printer Network, to NAME instead of NAME-2. (The printer is connected USB but has network capability.)

Recently, I had decided to change my MacBook Pro name. After reading the warning, I understood that everything would turn into defualt settings and I would not loose any other information. However, in result, after completing a restart; my computer made duplicates of music and pictures. To add on to this, the name change deleted my playlist, which I have no problems with, and made about 3 duplicates of every song in my library which consisted of about 28 gigs of music. Btw...all of the files are there, it is just that there are tons of duplicate files which need to be deleted because of this computer name change.

My computer's hard drive space keeps changing. For exaomple, there are 50 GB free space, and then a few hrs later I will check the info again and it will read 47 GB free, 45 GB free, etc. It keeps changing throughout the day. I have not downloaded anything, not added any files, just browsed the web. Why does it keep chaning like that? Usually when I restart the computer, it reads what it normally should, eg. 50 GB free.

I just used migration assistant to transfer to my new macbook pro. When i was doing this i needed to set up a new account/user as the one already on my new macbook pro is named the same as the one i was migrating from. With me?
What i want to do is delete the ORIGINAL account and be left with the new one, i migrated over, as the sole account (bar guest account and whatever else is usually there).
I can't seem to see any option for deleting the original account, the minus option is faded out when i highlight the Original account in "Accounts" in the System Pref. window.
For the past 2 weeks, my Macbook Pro has been acting very strange. For full disclosure, I am running 10.6.8 on a 2008 MacBook Pro that is hooked up to a 30 -inch Cinema display.
First off, windows have been acting strange. If I click on the top bar of my web browser or application to drag the window to a new place, the image stays still, and then reloads from top to bottom as if it is refreshing. It them jumps to the place where my mouse then lands. This occurs very often.
Second, at least 3-4 times during my workday the entire screen turns blue, and appears to log me out. It then logs me back in and attempts to reopen all the programs I had open. This cycle takes about 25 seconds and is getting very annoying.
Lastly, my interface is a bit screwy now. Normally when I adjust the sound, a white speaker appears is the middle of the screen and shows the new volume level. Now, the speaker is a splotchy purple color and has relocated to the very bottom of my screen. Also, all the colors in my dock are warped. I attached a screenshot to this post.

View 5 Replies View RelatedIts taking about 3-5 minutes to log out and I dont know why I have disconnected a usb without ejecting it before, and also declined an microsoft autoupdate from Word. when im logging out, the screen turns blue and theres a spinning circle at the bototm. after that, the log in screen is not able to be clicked on anything, and it will take about 5-10 minutes to be able to be clicked and log in.

My Mail icon just wound not work when i clicked on it. Opened up in safe boot mode and it fixed itself. But then 'connection logging enabled' appeared on the Mail tool bar. Mail works okay, but what does this the strange sentence mean?I use Mavericks, and my macbook pro is mid-2010.

I am able to use the internet at the staring but once i logged off and log in back I am not able to connect. Signal strength is showing good. I always needed to goto network preferences and diagnose, so it will do the check ups and will show the connection is working properly and i will be able to use the internet. When I purchased my iMac a few years ago, I created one user account and just started using my computer. I am trying to implement a few Safe Computing practices by creating a new Admin user account and changing my original user account to a Standard user.
For some reason, I cannot change either of the accounts to a standard user after I type in the password. I've logged in as both and tried to change the other user profile to a standard user, but the checkbox is greyed out on both of the Admin User accounts.
I can create a new standard user, but I have everyting set the way I like it on my current Admin user account. It would be much easier to have a new Admin User account and "Downgrade" my original Admin account to a standard user account.
why the option to change from an Admin user to a standard user would be "Greyed Out"? The support articles walk me through, what should be a few simple steps, but I can not change the settings because the checkbox is greyed out.
