MacBook :: Aluminum Replacement Case And Topcase For The Plastic System

Dec 28, 2009

Since then I've replaced the HDD, NIC, and a cracked topcase, which is now cracked again - I'm careful with it, but strong magnets + plastic + time = crack. It's not my primary computer, but it's still nice to bring to school with me.So my question is, does anyone make an aluminum replacement case and topcase for the plastic macbook? Only the topcase is damaged but after however many years with the same laptop I'd like a change (not a huge fan of plastic in the first place).

MacBook Pro :: Get Liquid Between The Aluminum And Plastic Of Apple Logo On Lid?

May 8, 2010

I installed an invisible shield on my macbook pro, and was concerned about how suceptible it may be to get water, or another liquid in the top of the lid via the apple logo? You spray the solution on the shield and then squeegee it around with some force, is it possible to get liquid inside the case via this boundary? Even something like a spray lcd cleaner or a damp cloth? How well sealed is the transition between the aluminum and the plastic of the logo?

MacBook Pro :: Power Supply Connector Plastic Cap Replacement?

Sep 19, 2007

June 5th to September 19th.....not too bad, considering the laptop has been on the road quite a bit.

I finally lost (seems so, at least ) that little semi-clear plastic cap shaped like a rectangle with rounded edges that covers/protects the connector of the MBP power supply when it's not connected to the computer (and being transported).....at least, that's what I used it for.

I did a quick search and couldn't find any relevant posts, so sorry in advance if this has been addressed.

Does Apple or someone else sell a replacement for such a dinky little thing.....although, frankly, I found it to be quite useful to protect the connector .

I have a 1.6Ghz Powerbook which has a few dents in the front but I don't see any of these cases for sale on Ebay, but I do see Macbook Pro cases. It's really a nasty cosmetic issue I'd like to resolve and then sell it.

MacBook Pro :: Aluminum Case Really That Durable?

Apple claims the aluminum case is durable. Which, I can see why they would say that. But, I've had my MBP for about a month, and it's already got a dent on it. And I take care of this baby as if it was a diamond. Plus, the pads on the bottom aren't even that durable. They are already wearing out.

MacBook Air :: MacBook Air A Viable Replacement For 2008 White Plastic MacBook?

Nov 20, 2010

I have a 2008 13" white, plastic MacBook. Its a bit slow, but adequate. Thinking of selling it and paying the difference to get the 11" MacBook Air. I've heard it is similar in speed and has the same processor.
The main problem I have with my current MacBook is that its heavy - I need something lightweight to easily carry to school and class for note-taking and such.

How is the Air better or worse, and would I be losing anything significantly by replacing the 08 plastic MB with a MBA?

Mac :: MacBook Air OEM Case Replacement

Jul 3, 2009

I recently picked up a MacBook Air for a great price. The only problem is that it was dropped and has significant denting and disfiguring to the aluminum case that is behind the screen with the glowing Apple logo. I got a quote of $650 from the Apple store to send it out for repair. That is way beyond what I am willing to spend for cosmetic damage. I started searching and found the bottom of the case as well as the top of the case and keyboard but have had no luck finding a replacement for the backing of the screen. Dies anyone know where I can pick one up?

MacBook Pro :: Electric Current Through Aluminum Case / Running Fingers Across The Top

Sep 12, 2008

I recently traveled to Europe with a MacBook Pro, and plugged it into the outlet with a travel converter. My understanding is that the brick on the magsafe cable works as a transformer and it is safe to plug into a European outlet. I've never had a problem with other laptops.

Everything worked fine with the machine, except I could always feel an "electric" sensation through my hands when touching the aluminum case. This was especially apparent when running my fingers across the top -- it was as if I could feel an electric current running through the case.

This seemed harmless, and I ran the computer without fail during my time abroad. My question is out of curiosity -- is this sensation normal? What exactly is it?

MacBook Pro :: Keyboard And/or Top Case Cover To Eliminate Aluminum Reflection?

Jun 25, 2012

Getting a new MacBookPro with high res anti-glare screen.I type with two fingers, and often look at the keyboard.

For eye comfort, and to prevent retinal after-images, I'd like all the aluminum dull black. I found tape and fabric to cover up most of the top case and the bezel, but the keyboard is a challenge. KBCovers does not produce a keyboard cover which will be black at the bases of the keys and clear over the keys, which would allow the backlit keyboard to transmit.   So first choice is a keyboard cover which has black everywhere there's aluminum, and has clear for the keys.   Second choice is an all clear keybooard cover and I'll adhere black to the aluminum around the keys (and top case).

Anyone aware of such keyboard covers ?

Anyone aware of such top case covers ?

(ColorWare voids a three year AppleCare, so ColorWare is not an option)

Never understood Apple's engineering design of making a screen anti-glare and anti-reflective, while making the remainder of the computer glaring and reflective and contrasting.  Ye olde black MacBook is such an eye-pleasing and comfortable design.

MacBook Air :: Stand In Case Till Get A More Permanent Replacement?

Dec 1, 2010

I was just rummaging through my cupboard looking for me certificates when I found it. And it fit's pretty alright. It will have to do for now. It a case for my Razer mousepad, the Destructor. It's hard on the surface and it'd do a nice job of protecting it over minor bumps but nothing major. What I like about it is that it's slim. When I first bought the Destructor mousepad couple of years ago, I remembered thinking the case would be a good case for laptops. Had a 15" HP that time and it wont fit. Not to mention, it was too thick. Well, I snapped a few pics. And oh, its a 13 MBA if anyone is wondering.

MacBook :: Uni Late 09 Liquid Damage - Upper Case Replacement

Sep 23, 2010

Being the poor college kid that I am, and knowing a bit about hardware repair, I've been buying macbooks on craigslist, etc. and reselling them. I just got a Polycarbonate Macbook that had liquid spilled on (she said it was iced tea). It wouldn't turn on so I checked out the logic board and I cleaned it with alcohol although it seemed clean. I noticed during this that the LED on the power adapter was green, though very dim. When I unhooked the cable connecting the upper case, it turned bright green. Basically what I'm wondering and now that I think about it its probably a stupid question, since I have no way of testing this until I buy a new upper case is do you think it's worth it to try and fix or should I sell it?

Mac :: MBP Case Gap After HDD Replacement?

May 19, 2009

I was wondering if it is possible to have the non-Unibody MBP top case sit flush with the bottom after replacing the HDD. On a couple previous generation MBPs, I, nor my local Apple Authorized Repair Center were able to replace the hard drive without leaving a noticeable gap between the top case and the bottom. I would really like to put a SSD in my computer, but would not like my machine to have that terrible looking gap. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions on how to prevent this gap, if it all possible?

Mac :: Unibody MB Top Case Replacement And Keyboard Options

Apr 9, 2009

I got my refurbed 2.4 unibody MB less than 2 weeks ago and just took it to the Apple Store because the very far right side of my spacebar stopped working, and I had a few slanted keys in various places on the keyboard too. The genius at the store told me they needed to replace the top case (metal chassis w/keyboard & trackpad built-in?) and it would take 3-5 days.Anybody else had problems with slanted keys OTHER than the function row? Anybody else had a top case replacement for this or other reasons?I'm nervous that I'm going to get my MB back and the new top case will be installed crooked or worse than the old one. Or the hard drive will be wiped and I'll have to re-install all my programs and iTunes/iPhoto libraries. I was loving the MB, with the spacebar failure being the only real problem... worried it's going to come back more messed up than it was. Am I just being paranoid?

MacBook Pro :: Stop Hinge Plastic From Creaking / Black Plastic Hinge Cover Is Cheap And Creaks

Feb 15, 2007

Build-quality wise the unibodies are really as perfect as I've ever experienced any machine to be. Simply amazing. BUT, the black plastic hinge cover is cheap and creaks as soon as I grab the computer or open the display. I opened her up to see if there was anything I could do to reinforce it or something, but I didn't want to mess with it.

Quite a few seem to have this 'issue' and I thought maybe somebody has figured out a solution?Such a shame on an otherwise perfect machine. I would have preferred the same kind of rubbery plastic that was on the old generation MBP

MacBook Pro :: Clinging Sound From System / Low Voltage Current When Touch Aluminum Unibody

Oct 6, 2010

I finally put my hands on a brand new MacBook Pro 15" (base model) with Hi-Def Glossy Screen...I'm playing with it since a couple of days and I wonder if it is somehow defective...I've already passed through the following thread but I haven't found the answers I'm looking for....URL

I've also searched trough the forum, found a couple of related threads but no conclusive answers were given, so that's why I'm posting my doubts and asking for you to comment or give your personal experiences or advices...

1) Power dazzle (sorry I don't know how to better express it)
When I plug the cable to recharge the battery and the battery gets finally completely recharged, I feel a sort of low voltage through my hands when I touch the aluminum unibody... I was used to feel the same thing on the touchpad of my former pc when its logic board started to break... (that's why I'm so worried about this potential issue)Is it normal? Do you experience the same thing? Is it to notify the battery is fully charged? I don't think so: a pop-up message would be much more effective...

2) Clinging sound
When I use the MBP in a quiet room, I often hear a clinging sound from the touchpad... I suspect it is the HDD's head that moves to perform an operation... or is it something completely different? In any case, it is very annoying: when I hear it, I immediately start to search myself for any tab of a zipper that may produce it...Again, is it normal? Does your MBP is the same? Does it annoy you? Am I simply paranoid? Did you do something to effectively reduce it (SSD)?

3) Battery life
I tried to calibrate the battery properly, nevertheless I didn't experienced the advertized battery life... I think it depends on the fact I have the Hi-Def screen that is more power demanding than the default one...

Is this the effective reason? How long does your battery last? (I cannot post my value because I just discovered the option to show time besides battery icon...) Any suggestion to make the battery last longer? (I already use cable rather than wi-fi and Intel graphic card rather than Nvidia one)

4) If I move my finger tips on the bottom of the unibody enclosure, I can feel a small step between the enclosure and the cover (something less than 1/3 of a mm) in the area below the touchpad that progressively disappear toward the hinge area...

Does your cover integrate seamlessly into your unibody enclosure or not?Is it an indication of some sort of refurbished intervention or is it normal this way? How can I understand if it is a refurbished MBP or a brand new one? (It's been bought by my university, so I don't know exactly what has been ordered... there is something I have to look for to understand the case? A particular notice, booklet or something like that?)
