MacBook :: 08 Whitebook Top Case Compatible With 09 Whitebook Topcase
Nov 9, 2009
I have a 2008 macbook (white) and its going in for repair (got the common crack in the topcase to the right of the touchpad). I was thinking that maybe I can get (pay extra?) the new topcase for the october 09 whitebooks, with the glass touchpad. Do you guys think they are compatible?

My new whitebook is on order and I'm getting ready for when it arrives. The plan is to swap out the hard drive from my old whitebook (late 2006), but I'm unsure on a couple of points. My current drive is a 250g SATA with a 170g boot partition and an 80g BootCamp partition.

I'm going to eventually buy a reburb white Macbook and I am contemplating between the 2.1GHz and the 2.4. As far as the ram and hdd are concerned, I plan on putting a bigger drive in and upping the ram to 4gb, so the only difference left is the .3Ghz.
The money saved by going with a 2.1 would just about cover the 4gb and a good 320GB HDD.
My plans for this laptop are: surfing, some work in Windows (thus the ram), itunes, iweb, iphoto... no gaming planned, I'm just not a gamer.

So recently, my sister has been using my computer, and when she went to use it, she used it for like 3 days and she was wearing a sweater that she had been outside it, somehow the color leaked onto the palm rest and now it is blue, I have tried a damp cloth and then wiping with a dry one, but it didn't work, it isn't dark blue, but it is noticeable. Is there a way I could clean this?

I have, for some stupid reason, scratched the left palmrest with my nail so that scratchmarks have appeared. I honestly can't remember why I did it, but i think that I thought i was removing dirt from it that way.
What I basically wonder is if I might have scratched the first layer off, or if I really did remove some dirt. I didn't really apply much pressure so I think it's just dirt. So is there a way to clean the whole thing so that it looks white again instead of scratched?

I'm trying to connect my whitebook so I can watch iplayer on my TV. I've got a mini DVI to video adaptor and from that I've run an s video cable to the back of my tele. Audio is from the audio out to a phono adapter and into the tv. The T.V. is an oldish panasonic crt.
Now the audio is working so I know I've got the right channel on the tv but my comp doesn't seem to be recognising that it's plugged into the tv. Is what I'm trying to do posable, basically using my tv as a monitor?

My friends got a white Macbook with 80gb HD, 1gb ram, 2.0 intel, runs tiger, 38GB free space on hard drive. So the problem is that i tried to install leopard on the computer, i followed the instructions for how to install, but it wont install, it says cannot install on this computer. This computer is fully capable of using leopard, plenty of HD space. And it the reason it gives for not installing is: Newer version of this software/program, already exists. I saved her photos on a DVD b/c thats all shes worried about keeping saved.

when I was browsing the BBC website . I happened upon the front page and could hear a crackling sound, eventually after looking round the room for about 5 minutes I realized it was the macbook.
When the news page 'scroller' at the top types its news story out in a tika tape kinda way that is when the crackling noise happens .
does this make sense ? is my macbook faulty ? ..does it take soo much power to perform this function as to make my macbookCPU crackle ?
the noise is coming from approx the center of the notebook and is quiet(ish) but audible enough
anyone have any ideas ?
link to the site is below , you'll see the words scrolling across the screen at the top which then creates a clickable link to a news story : URL

Since then I've replaced the HDD, NIC, and a cracked topcase, which is now cracked again - I'm careful with it, but strong magnets + plastic + time = crack. It's not my primary computer, but it's still nice to bring to school with me.So my question is, does anyone make an aluminum replacement case and topcase for the plastic macbook? Only the topcase is damaged but after however many years with the same laptop I'd like a change (not a huge fan of plastic in the first place).

Has anyone recently purchased an exterior case protection for their new macbook pro after the updated magsafe, if so, where do I find such a case that fits that update? I would like some feedback before I buy an incase or a speck and then manually trim the side, I'd rather not do that.

I need to replace topcase on late 2006 macbook (MA700ZH/A A1181 late-2006 C2D 2.0ghz). What I see the most is version 3 topcase on ebay etc. I don't mind to have a bit more modern part on my macbook Will this v3 topcase fit/work at all? Can somebody confirm? I heard that media control buttons will work only with 10.6 which is fine.

I have a problem with MacBook. Without the topcase, external USB mouse is working ok. With topcase not-mouse (USB and trackpad) is slow and when machine warming then its goes better. I have tried 3-4 different topcase.

I was wanting to know how hard it is to change top and bottom case and keyboard area? I would like to know that if anything was to happen to my soon to have macbook I could change it. Also this on the older macbooks. And if I have Apple to change it how much would it cost? And yes I know that they should replace keyboard case area for free because of the defunct cracking issue.

I have about 50 *.mp3's on my hard drive that have the file names in all upper case. When looking at them in itunes it drives me nuts....Is there a way to convert the uppercase file name to lowercase? I have googled but can't find anything. I do not want to do it manually, that would take a long time =( thanks, I'm crossing my fingers

Does anyone know if the PB 15.4 Aluminum case is exchangeable with the Macbook Pro 15.4 case? I have a 1.6Ghz Powerbook which has a few dents in the front but I don't see any of these cases for sale on Ebay, but I do see Macbook Pro cases. It's really a nasty cosmetic issue I'd like to resolve and then sell it.

I am working on restoring a Time Machine backup from Leopard to a clean installation of Snow Leopard. The only problem I'm facing is that the Leopard backup is on a case-sensitive drive (and the Snow Leopard drive is set up, by default, as case-ignorant).
I have scoured the Web the last two days and have not found a definitive answer to my question: Is there a way to transfer the data from the Time Machine backup on the case-sensitive drive to the case-ignorant Snow Leopard drive?
Yesterday I ran across a tutorial explaining how this might be accomplished using SuperDuper! but a commenter explained that Disk Utility could be used and was much easier.
I tried the Disk Utility method but it didn't work, and I ran out of time to give the SuperDuper! option a try. Does anyone know if it, or even Carbon Copy Cloner, might solve my problem?

Or does someone know of the link to see his server, or one like it?

Soon i will be getting a Mac(i think) and was wondering about a case. Since i want a Macbook Pro with the Unibody Housing i want it to be safe. Now i can't decide if i want a case or a Sleeve. Now the Case might have heat issues even with the vents that are on the case. The sleeve won't have that issue but will it be more prone to scratching the Macbook it self? Or should i go no case and just sorta deal with the scratches. There is a Price difference between the Sleeve and the Case. About $20 Cdn more for the Case.

Anyone using anything decent or just chucking it in your bag and hoping it doesn't get scratched/dropped?
Currently using a modded leather square CD storage thingie, but it's a bit thick, kind of defeats the purpose. Wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the fixed USB cable which gets snagged.
Strange that the usual suspects (Tucano etc.) haven't made a custom case for this peripheral.

I recently picked up a MacBook Air for a great price. The only problem is that it was dropped and has significant denting and disfiguring to the aluminum case that is behind the screen with the glowing Apple logo. I got a quote of $650 from the Apple store to send it out for repair. That is way beyond what I am willing to spend for cosmetic damage. I started searching and found the bottom of the case as well as the top of the case and keyboard but have had no luck finding a replacement for the backing of the screen. Dies anyone know where I can pick one up?

I was thinking about getting a hardshell case for the macbook pro. However with all this controversy with heating I was wondering if a hardshell would affect the macbook's temps even more. Can anyone who has a case on their new macbook pro give some insight on the temp differences?
