MacBook :: Spilled Rubbing Alcohol On Screen?

Jan 15, 2009

I was cleaning my wireless mighty mouse with a lil' bit of rubbing alcohol when like a dumb ass i spilled the bottle and it splashed on my screen. I dried it up right away and i didn't see any damage but a few minutes later i saw this:When i tilt it back it sorta dissapears:What do i do now? I searched and i couldn't find any rubbing alcohol damage threads. Damn, i am so bummed i don't want it to be permanently damaged. I worked my ass off to save to get this and it's only about a year old.

PowerPC :: Does PB 15.4 Aluminum Case Is Exchangeable With The MBP 15.4 Case

Oct 18, 2007

Does anyone know if the PB 15.4 Aluminum case is exchangeable with the Macbook Pro 15.4 case? I have a 1.6Ghz Powerbook which has a few dents in the front but I don't see any of these cases for sale on Ebay, but I do see Macbook Pro cases. It's really a nasty cosmetic issue I'd like to resolve and then sell it.

MacBook Pro :: Aluminum Case Really That Durable?

Aug 2, 2009

Apple claims the aluminum case is durable. Which, I can see why they would say that. But, I've had my MBP for about a month, and it's already got a dent on it. And I take care of this baby as if it was a diamond. Plus, the pads on the bottom aren't even that durable. They are already wearing out.

MacBook Pro :: Bottom Case Too Flexible / Aluminum Not Thick Enough?

Apr 26, 2010

I was hoping that Apple would address this in the new MBPs but alas it seems they are the same.I hate the fact that my 15 and 17 mbp bottom cases are too flexible and will actually pop in and out if you hold it in the middle.I think on my new mbp I did this and accidentally heard the fan hitting the case.To get around this, you must hold the mbp from sides only.

MacBook Pro :: Electric Current Through Aluminum Case / Running Fingers Across The Top

Sep 12, 2008

I recently traveled to Europe with a MacBook Pro, and plugged it into the outlet with a travel converter. My understanding is that the brick on the magsafe cable works as a transformer and it is safe to plug into a European outlet. I've never had a problem with other laptops.

Everything worked fine with the machine, except I could always feel an "electric" sensation through my hands when touching the aluminum case. This was especially apparent when running my fingers across the top -- it was as if I could feel an electric current running through the case.

This seemed harmless, and I ran the computer without fail during my time abroad. My question is out of curiosity -- is this sensation normal? What exactly is it?

MacBook :: Aluminum Replacement Case And Topcase For The Plastic System

Dec 28, 2009

Since then I've replaced the HDD, NIC, and a cracked topcase, which is now cracked again - I'm careful with it, but strong magnets + plastic + time = crack. It's not my primary computer, but it's still nice to bring to school with me.So my question is, does anyone make an aluminum replacement case and topcase for the plastic macbook? Only the topcase is damaged but after however many years with the same laptop I'd like a change (not a huge fan of plastic in the first place).

MacBook Pro :: Keyboard And/or Top Case Cover To Eliminate Aluminum Reflection?

Jun 25, 2012

Getting a new MacBookPro with high res anti-glare screen.I type with two fingers, and often look at the keyboard.

For eye comfort, and to prevent retinal after-images, I'd like all the aluminum dull black. I found tape and fabric to cover up most of the top case and the bezel, but the keyboard is a challenge. KBCovers does not produce a keyboard cover which will be black at the bases of the keys and clear over the keys, which would allow the backlit keyboard to transmit.   So first choice is a keyboard cover which has black everywhere there's aluminum, and has clear for the keys.   Second choice is an all clear keybooard cover and I'll adhere black to the aluminum around the keys (and top case).

Anyone aware of such keyboard covers ?

Anyone aware of such top case covers ?

(ColorWare voids a three year AppleCare, so ColorWare is not an option)

Never understood Apple's engineering design of making a screen anti-glare and anti-reflective, while making the remainder of the computer glaring and reflective and contrasting.  Ye olde black MacBook is such an eye-pleasing and comfortable design.

MacBook Air :: Weatherfield Sleeve Case - Safe In The Rain?

Dec 13, 2010

I'm going to be going to grad school in the Fall and I have to walk across campus several times a day. The only case I have found is the SF Waterfield sleevecase. I spoke with a rep. there and she told me that the bag is water resistant, but that water could still get into the opening, even with a flap. Any owners of the bag have any experience in the wet weather with this case? I really like the case, just don't want to risk my investment or my data.

MacBook Air :: Trackpad Button Rubbing On Bezel?

Mar 13, 2009

Just had my air replaced by customer relations following three faults in the first 5 weeks of owning - the new one's great - had it for 4 days but i've just noticed that the bezel is getting scratched where the trackpad button sits (at either side) surely this isn't normal? It's not a biggy at the moment - the left side is noticeable - the right is if the light shines on it in the right way.Is this just "how they are"? My white macbook wrist rest broke for a similar reason, but after almost 2 years of daily service, 4 days and marking?I really feel that Apple must be thinking i'm a constant moaner! I really am not it just seems to be bad luck.

Mac Pro :: Rubbing Noise Heard After Startup Chime

Aug 13, 2008

The last two days I have woken up and started my G4, and I hear an odd noise. I hear my drives spin up, but it takes probably 15 seconds for the Apple to show up on the grey bootscreen, after the first Chime I hear a 2nd noise from the internal speaker that I can't really describe? I can also hear a weird noise that sounds like rubbing or something if I listen very closely. Maybe this is a dust build up on the fan. Disk Utility says both of my drives are fine, and my computer is running fine. I'm just kind of confused here.. Should I pick up some canned air and clean out the computer a bit?

Hardware :: Alcohol In The Keyboard?

Dec 9, 2008

I got a phone call from my friend, and a bunch of cryptic emails from her. This is the same friend who tried to mix apple and oranges, litterally by putting her 2 month old macbook in a bag with orange juice, which now resides in her CD drive. She was cleaning her computer with rubbing alcohol and some how she managed to get a small amount in the keyboard. Now the following keys no longer work 7 u j and m. The left arrow gives a " and the track pad mouse constantly drifts left. Clicks are weird, and there is a sound effect that goes pop. Its not a bad, static pop, its an intentional notification pop but I dont know what it is for, most likely saying hey, you cant click there.

Sooo apple care expires in january, could/should she get apple care and have them fix it, or should she shun our $180 for a new upper case? Is there a chance I could fix it? If I could figure out how to disable the track pad, she could use an external mouse/keyboard for now as a temporary fix. Its a PITA to use the track pad to get to preferences > mouse to click a box, the track pad acts wild! I do know that the local apple store doesnt fix the computer, they have another place called CIT fix it. And the people at CIT..well, they are (insert bad word here)holes. They are the sterotypical computer shop that charge you for the tinyest things. "we can polish your screen for $50 extra!" type.

OS X :: Unable To Know About Case-Sensitive To Case-Ignorant?

Jun 14, 2010

I am working on restoring a Time Machine backup from Leopard to a clean installation of Snow Leopard. The only problem I'm facing is that the Leopard backup is on a case-sensitive drive (and the Snow Leopard drive is set up, by default, as case-ignorant).

I have scoured the Web the last two days and have not found a definitive answer to my question: Is there a way to transfer the data from the Time Machine backup on the case-sensitive drive to the case-ignorant Snow Leopard drive?

Yesterday I ran across a tutorial explaining how this might be accomplished using SuperDuper! but a commenter explained that Disk Utility could be used and was much easier.

I tried the Disk Utility method but it didn't work, and I ran out of time to give the SuperDuper! option a try. Does anyone know if it, or even Carbon Copy Cloner, might solve my problem?

MacBook Pro :: Sleeve Versus Case Versus No Case Or Sleeve

Jun 25, 2010

Soon i will be getting a Mac(i think) and was wondering about a case. Since i want a Macbook Pro with the Unibody Housing i want it to be safe. Now i can't decide if i want a case or a Sleeve. Now the Case might have heat issues even with the vents that are on the case. The sleeve won't have that issue but will it be more prone to scratching the Macbook it self? Or should i go no case and just sorta deal with the scratches. There is a Price difference between the Sleeve and the Case. About $20 Cdn more for the Case.
