Every time I turn on my Macbook, a Finder window opens (the OS file actually). It randomly started one day, and I am wondering if others have this problem and is there a solution?

I have two accounts set up on Mac. The mac boots into the primary account just fine. But whenever I go to my secondary account finder always opens a window just after startup.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been using OSX since it first came out but one thing I still don't understand is how you determine where a new finder window will appear.
I recall someone once saying open a window, press CTRL then close the window and the next window will appear in the same spot as the now closed window. That doesnt work, nor does pressing command or any other combination I have tried.
I don't know when started to happen, but when I open a window of Finder, and click in the left sidebar to see what is in Desktop, it didn't show in the right panel, it open a Terminal window. If I click Applications, or Music, it works good, but not with Desktop. I already installed Lion again 3 times, but when restoring from Time Machine, it starts to doing that.

I was dragging some files from one folder to another inside the (Snow Leopard) Finder and accidentally dragged them up into the top bar of the Finder window itself. How do I remove them from this position? I can't drag them off because as soon as I click on them, they open.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I have a folder open, say downloads, in a list view, and I delete a file, the scroll bar will automatically jump to the top of the list. It's absolutely non-sensical. One of the most annoying things ever when your trying to organize a long list of files. Happens in 10.8.5 and in Mavericks on two separate computers. It's worse in 10.8.5 as sometimes it will glitch out and do it even when I am scrolling down the list. . Kind of thing that makes you want to switch to windows. Â
How do I turn this off?
I am not sure how to 'title' my exact problem, so I'll explain it as best I can. I've also attached an Illustration of the problem which might explain it better.
I currently have the items in my folders displayed as 'columns'. When I open a new folder, the folders contents are displayed in the next column to the right. So after going a few folders in, the scroll bar on the bottom of the finder window is somewhat large. This is normal.
However the problem is, whenever I drag a document from my desktop into the most recently opened folder, finder resets the scrollbar to the position on the left side, forcing me to drag the window over again every time. This it a rather large annoyance, since the way I work I pull and replace lots of files from the same series of folders.
I just recently upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard (finally), and ever since then I have noticed this strange issue with Finder. It did not happen in Tiger or Leopard.
Is this something that Snow Leopard now does by default now, or am I the only one experiencing this?
So this is a new thing that started happening, and has got me stumped. When I hit Apple key+N in Safari, a new browser window will open, I will be switched to the Finder, and a new window in the Finder will open up. This new window in the Finder is the Computer window, the one listing the HD, the network icon, and any attached disks. It is not the same window I would get by hitting Apple+N while in the Finder. Only seems to do this while in Safari.

When I try to close safari using the red dot at the top left hand side of the screen instead of the window closing it opens a new blank safari window. Infact the same happens when I click the amber and green buttons also.
I recently have had to system updates (last night and today). Last night I also had a problem that has fixed itself where pressing the command + Q buttons would not clos safari and the "Quit safari" in in the safari drop down was greyed out. As I say the later isue has fixed itself after I force closed and the updates loaded on. Not sure if the two issues are connected.Â
It just opens a crash report window. I am using Aperture 3.5.1 on OS X 10.9.3.
View 5 Replies View RelatedSometimes I simply cannot open a new finder window. If I use Command-N or if I choose New Finder Window in the Finder menu, nothing happens. If I am using Command-N, I can see the File heading in the Finder menu bar highlighting, and then after a few seconds the highlight goes, but no window opens. Also, clicking on my Downloads icon in the dock, the dialog opens showing all the files, but if I then click on Open in Finder, the dialog closes but nothing happens. Now that I am writing this message, it all works again! That's what I mean by 'sometimes'. This issue can last for tens of minutes. Secndly, and this is still a problem, my finder Preferences do not stick. So for instance, I don't want to see an icon for my hard disk on the desktop, so I untick this in Finder preferences. The icon disappears. If I now re-start, then it comes back. The same happens for removing the empty trash warning and all of the other Finder Preference tick boxes.Â
Now, when the first problem of not being able to open a finder window suddenly stopped being a problem, the icon for the hard disk suddenly appeared on my desktop. So the two issues are linked. This has been going on intermittently for a few days. I have verified my disk, and repaired permissions.

Wasn't this an option previous to 10.7.4? It doesn't work now.When clicking the Finder icon in the Dock, a new Finder window would open? I know about Finder prefs - General - Always open folders in new window but this isn't what I mean.I'd have a Finder window open then want to copy/move something so I clicked on the Finder icon in the dock to get a new window.Every time I clicked the Dock icon, I'd get a new Finder window.

I got my macbook pro 13in in November so it is brand new.I suffered a fall on the ice with my laptop in my backpack.Back pack first a week ago.I have a shell case for it,but am worried something might have happened internally.
It has been fine up until the past couple days.I began to notice black flickering occurring on my screen.I rebooted and fine.Then today I noticed when uploading things online a strong flickering showed on the finder.So I tried System Preferences > Display and UNCHECK the setting for "Automatically adjust brightness as ambient light changes".This worked on safari,but I went to open up a file in photoshop and the flickering occurred once more.I'm not sure if when dropped something occured or if just some kind of error.

Ok, so there was this application I've never used but it keeps saying "You do not have permission to use the application "uHD-uninstall-Agent".....and so forth. I click Ok but the pop up keeps popping up and interrupting everything I do. I went to login items to remove it from startup but it still won't stop. This is a school laptop so I cannot control admin.

I recently downloaded a .dmg file to install a program on my mac. I am running the latest version of Lion. The dmg file mounted, and when I clicked on it, it opened the finder box with two icons, one to click to install and one for uninstalling. The Install one also was missing the logo that showed on my other computer. I clicked on the install logo and the Terminal window opened, and nothing else happened. Â

Recently, my newer (last year) iMac probably running 10.5 started speaking and wont shut up... there is no obvious way to turn it off. I usually figure problems out myself but there are no system preferences that effect it. I even changed the voice in preferences as a test and it is still the same guy reading everything clicked in all applications except when I am in system preferences so far. Usually when I run into a dead end like this there is some mystery key command that works... anyone know?I also noticed that some of the top line (f) keys are not doing what they are supposed to any longer as well... volume up opens the window for expose & spaces it looks like and does not control the volume monitor brightness controls are not working either... I went to the key and mouse preferences and set the key strokes to default and still the same.
