MacBook :: Wireless Printing From Windows?
Aug 3, 2010
I have been like sweating for the last 3 hours trying to figure out how the heck to make my mac print to my printer. My printer is connected to my Windows XP Computer that I use for most printing. Now, I don't want to have to drag my MB all the way down 3 flights of stairs to where my Windows is to connect it. Is there a way to print wirelessly from a printer connected to windows so that I can print from my mac. my MacBook is running 10.6 Snow Leopard. And the Windows is running Windows XP 2007.

I have a Macbook, running XP Pro on via Bootcamp. It is connected to a wireless network. I want to print from XP bootcamp, wirelessly, to printers connected to a different computer (XP).
I have a PC that has 2 printers connected to it, running XP Home. Both printers are SHARED, with NAMES.
My 2 other computers (both PC's), can print to these printers wirelessly. I, cannot. I have installed all the drivers for the printers (using their CDs) on Bootcamp XP. I tried connecting to the printers, but I can't.

My Brother HL-3040CN printer only has an ethernet connector for network printing (as well as a usb port). If I wish to print wirelessly is there an adaptor or a wireless hub that I can plug it into with the cable?
I'm asking this because I've read the iPad doesn't have any means of connecting it to a printer with a cable. I won't buy an iPad now but maybe next year.
EDIT: Would an Airport Express do the job?

how to install a Samsung CLX-3185FW to print wirelessly? I have downloaded the drivers from the Samsung site which enable me to print via USB and also to connect the printer to the home wireless. On a MACBook Air I've managed to install the printer using the IP address. I can then print from the MacBook Pro by sending it through the MBAir as the printer shows up as connected to the MBAir. However, when I try to install the printer to the MBPro using the IP address I'm told that Apple doesn't have the necessary software. Consequently, I'm unable to print directly from the MBPro to the printer.

I bought my new (and first) unibody macbook 2 weeks ago. I'm loving everything about it
I was just wondering if the following is possible.
So I have a new macbook and a personal PC, both connected to a wireless internet network (with a D-Link Router).
There's a printer connected to my PC and I would like to know if it was possible to acces my PC through the internet and print files on it from my Macbook.
I hope I explained it good enough?

I'm trying to get used my first iMac, and I'm having a bit of trouble printing from my wireless network. I have an HP Officejet 6210 that I have been using for the last couple of years with my Windows computer. I'm trying to print off of that through my network, but I keep getting this error
"There is a problem communicating with the printer. Make sure the printer is powered on and connected to the computer. Delete or stop the job and try again."
I have printer sharing turned on through my Windows computer since the printer is connected directly through my windows computer. My other Windows computer that I have at the house can print through the network, but I'm having problems doing so with my iMac. I have the right driver selected through system preferences/print & fax, but it just won't print.

I have a new unibody macbook pro and print from it using a wireless hp officejet pro 7410 all in one printer. I have a linksys wrt150n router. My pc laptop prints fast from it but the mac prints very slow. The printing actually stops for a while then starts again. It doesn't seem to do this all the time. I can't figure out what would slow it down.

I have my HP photo smart printer plugged into my time capsule. I never had any issues printing with my last laptop (MBA) but i just got a new 13" MBP and can't print. MBP sees the printer on my time capsule via Bonjour, but when I try to add it to my printers i get a dialog box that says: "type the name and password of a user in teh "_Ipadmin" group to allow AddPrinter to make changes." I have no idea what the "_Ipadmin" group is and i've tried all my normal user names & passwords but it tells me they are all wrong.

I currently have a cannon MP620 all in one printer, I mainly use this for my PC notebook. If I were to purchase an Airport Express how would I go about printing wirelessly? Would I need to instal any drivers from the printer since it would be a network printer? I'm pretty confused as to how wireless printing works with the Airport Express.

just converted and purchased a 21.5" iMac this weekend, he took advantage of that rebate offer on printers and picked up the black HP wi-fi printer. Anyhow he does not have an airport extreme or any type of wireless router since his iMac is right next to his modem, so he is using Ethernet.
So I tried setting up a wireless network using his internal airport card in his iMac and this worked out great i enabled internet sharing and printer sharing. For some reason when i try to connect his printer with his network it says that the network is not within reach even though the printer is right next to the iMac. Am I doing something wrong? is there something I'm missing? I know the wi-fi network is working properly because he is able to connect with his iphone and I was able to connect with my MBP.

I am attempting to create an ad hoc network for the purpose of wireless printing, but I am clueless how to do so, or if it is even a possibility. I am a student and I do not want to connect my printer to the school's wireless network, nor do I want to connect via the USB interface. These are the peripherals:
Macbook Pro 13", 10.6.4
Brother HL 2170w
Can anyone explain to me how I might go about setting up a network on my Macbook Pro that my printer would be able to connect with?

I am trying to print wirelessly from my Macbook Pro to my Desktop running windows XP. The desktop is wired directly to the router and the printer, the macbook is wireless. I can enabled sharing on the printer on the desktop, and added the printer to my macbook. My problem is when I try to print It send's a signal to my desktop, the HP "ink level" pop up comes up, the printer shows spooling in the details then it disappears and never prints. I know I am close but have been messing with this for 2 days and I cant figure it out.

I've recently acquired an old HP LaserJet 6P printer. I've successfully connected it to my MacBook (10.5.8) using a Parallel-USB Converter Cable and Gimp-Print drivers - it doesn't have a built-in USB port. What I'd like to do now is connect the LaserJet to my Airport Express to allow me to print wirelessly. Has anyone done something similar to this before? Has it worked? I'd like to get advice first so I don't end up wasting hours and banging my head off a wall trying to get this to work.

About an hour ago I was just sitting in my apartment working, when suddenly my printer starts printing pages. Some road directions to a place I've never heard of. Someone in my building must somehow have gotten access to my printer, right? My printer is hooked up as a USB printer to my Time Capsule, through which I've made a wireless network. I've just spent an hour making sure my Time Capsule and its network are WPA2 password protected, and searching forums for similar issues. Both the Time capsule and my network were password protected, though I changed the passwords again for good measure, and made the network invisible. No one could access my printer without also having access to my network, correct? (it's not a wireless printer, it's an older HP deskjet).
how this may have happened, or more important, how to make sure it doesn't happen again? Am I missing some security step I do notice that when I go into the Airport utility, I can see other people's devices-- some other Airport and base station. Is this normal? Is it part of the issue?

Just purchased an Airport extreme - love the wireless boost for all computers but can not get the wireless epson printer to printer. Current set upCable modem to Airport Extreme - hardwired to house PC. Wireless to Imac, G5 mac, xbox 360, ipad - all works with excellent signal and speed.Printer located on 2nd floor by Mac G5 and printed via wireless before airport extreme and will not print. There is no way we can set up the air port at the G5 with the printer or move the printer to airport extreme. Does the printer have to be USB connected to work - we just want to transmit to the wireless printer with no connection.

Brand new iMac (my first one), sitting next to my Sony XP computer. I have a wireless network and have been able to share files between the two computers. I have all of my work information on my PC and am wanting to print to my new Canon Pixma printer which is connected to the MAC. I can "see" the printer when I go to printing preferences on my PC but when I hit print, I get an error message that says the printer if offline. I have all sharing enabled on both computers and when I go into the print queue, there is a document that is in there that it won't allow me to delete because it was "sent" by the owner "Valerie"....not sure if that is part of it or not. I guess my first question is, can I print over my wireless network through my MAC to the Canon and if I can, any idea what could be impeding me from printing?

I bought a brand new OKI C511 and although I can connect when USB is directly connected my my MacBook, when trying to do so wirelessly, I get: /Library/Printers/OKIDATA/Filters/OKIHC003.plugin/Contents/MacOS/OKIHC003 failed Can anybody help me with this? I've been trying to get it to work for the last 10 hours and I am so frustrated. Taking another route (not USB Bonjour) I tried setting up IP with LPD. I get that my IP address is "valid and complete". Leaving Queue blank as instructed on the "Add Printer" pane, I choose "Print Using" C511 then I get "Unable to connect due to an error. Would you still like to create the queue?". Neither Continue or Cancel lets me print. I read somewhere to put "lp" in the queue instead of leaving it blank and that does not work either. I tried selecting a generic printer instead of my installed driver 511 but no success. Is there some other way that I can print wirelessly from this printer?

I have a Windows XP Desktop with a Epson Stylus S21 connected to it with bonjour downloaded onto it. Using the step-by-step guides, I've managed to connected my MacBook Pro to the printer over the system and have managed to print. The only problem is, when I do send a document to print from my MacBook it only prints out a blank page with nothing printed on it. I know that the two are connected as I can send things to print, and it's not an issue with the printer as my desktop is able to print fine.

Running a Windows Storage server to have a central machine to run services of like iTunes, epbook server and printers. My biggest pain at the moment would be to print from my Mac Mini to the shared printers on the Windows server. Everything goes fine install canon drivers on the mac and connect to the printers vai LPD or SMB.With SMB I can do a print test page from the mac, as soon as I print anything the mac print status simply says sending print data on the windows server it says printing ... and that is that. The same happens for LPD, the only diffs is that the Windows machine is not seeing the print job.
What else can I do What server software could I then use on the server to have my iTunes centralised for Apple TV and Mac's so that Mac can actaully print I am new to the Mac world all is well... but this printing have 2 printers on the server and both are doing the same}

In Tiger, there was an option to use Windows Printing via Samba. It was accessed, when adding a printer, by holding down the Option key while selecting "more printers"
This no longer brings up the necessary options in Leopard.
know how to set up Windows Printing via Samba in Leopard?

I am running windows through VirtualBox. I only have Quickbooks on it because I don't have a Mac version. I need to be able to print my reports in quickbooks, but it's telling me there is no printer installed in windows even though I can print outside of windows. I tried to save in the "shared documents" so I could come back and print that way, but the documents don't show up. How can I print through Windows & VirtualBox? I also can't get Windows to recognize my jump drive so I can transfer it to another computer to print either.

I am having trouble printing from Windows (Bootcamp) to a printer connected USB to an Airport Express. Mac OS works fine - sets up the printer and prints simply. Windows isn't finding it.
I searched the forums, and followed the advice of connecting the printer directly and getting the drivers. This worked fine - and I could then print from Win 7 (64 bit)... But still no Airport joy.
Anyone know if I can check whether Bonjour was installed? Is it automatic when doing bootcamp? I've been trying to get it from the apple site, but the link is down:[URL]

Being the only Mac user in my house -however streamlined it is-, does hold a few problems. I have set up my iMac, and have happily joined my Windows home network, file sharing does work easily and neatly but as I found out the other day, printing from a Mac that is connected to a Windows based network can be very difficult. So for a long time now, I have been trying to set up my iMac (connected via WiFi) so that it prints over my home network. The printer; an EPSON TX100 is connected to the USB port in a Windows XP desktop and I have set up Printer sharing. The desktop is connected to my D-Link G604T.
I have added the printer through System Pref: Print & Fax:+:Windows tab: 'network':'computer':'printer' and have tried using both the Generic Postscript driver and the specified printer driver.
When I go ahead and print, the printer icon appears in the dock and then quickly disappears without a printout. I have replaced the ink and paper but still no luck. I have tried the methods suggested on some other threads, but none have succeeded. I would be happy to provide any extra information and try anything. Networked printing works with all Windows computers in the house including a NEC laptop, so why wont it work with a Mac?

I am having trouble getting a friend of mine's setup to work. He's got an HP Photosmart C4480 (usb to Time Capsule) It prints fine from his macbook, but not at all from his wife's PC (laptop with XP). The PC will print fine if i directly connect the printer (usb) to the laptop (but that kinda defeats the point). I tried changing the address from time capsule.local to the ip address of the time capsule (found that suggested somewhere online) and that didn't work.
Not sure if it was before or after the above, but it worked *once* when I had the laptop connected to the TC via Ethernet (which, again, kinda defeats the point). I also tried configuring a plain generic TCP/IP printer port and setting up the printer that way (bypassing Bonjour) but it didn't work. (EDIT: Just saw a guide linked, not sure if I chose Custom Settings for the Network card - will try that first when I go back over - would still love to know if there are any other things I could be trying.) What other things can I try with the hardware they're using?

I just bought a Toshiba satellite laptop with Windows 7 and am trying to set up my printer. I have a Canon Pixma MP500. I'm using my airport express for the router. I have no trouble connecting to the internet. It works perfectly. The problem is trying to get my printer to work with the airport. I've tried creating a new port with the ID address but my printer does not show as an option. Of course I can't find the installation cds (figures!). I have been able to add the printer under the local printer, but then I have to go back into the set up network/blue tooth option and it recognizes it. But then when I try to print it says that something is in the print queue blocking the current printing, but there is nothing there.

I have bucked the household Wintel trend and bought an iMac. I'd like to use our Kyocera printer which everyone else connects to via our WiFi (linksys) but my iMac doesn't see the device (internet yes). I installed bonjour for windows on the primary machine and it doesn't see the printer either. I have checked printer sharing everywhere to no avail. I am running OS X 10.5.6 and the rest of the machines in the house are Windows XP.

Just bought my first Mac, and all is well except sharing issues. I have been using OS X for all of two days so far, so please excuse me if I ask really stupid questions.
I know this topic has been covered plenty of times already, and I have searched and tried the solutions from plenty of different threads, and other websites. None seem to work for me.
Basically I live in a Windows world, all the other computers at Home, and the computers at work are all PC's on either XP, or Vista. So I really need to be able to swap files and share printers.
I have tried to set up the shared printer through CUPS and I received; "Unable to connect to CIFS host after (tried 3 times)". I can't see my shared Windows computers in Finder, and I can't see my Mac in Windows Network Center.

I have an HP C4200 series printer hooked up to my AE, which works flawlessly with both of my macs. My dad has an HP laptop that he uses (can't get him to switch) and I cannot get it to print to that printer for the life of me. I have installed the latest bonjour set up wizard and it sees it fine, but when I try to print to it, nothing.
