after upgrading to lion, seems like there is a plug-in issue - not sure if it's in safari or quicktime (i think the former). any idea on how to fix so you can view quicktime videos on web? already tried to reload latest (version 11) adobe flash without success.

Just upgraded to Lion 10.7.4, then the video stopped playing in Safari. Upgraded Safari, then installed the latest Flash player, V. 11.2.202.235. Also have the latest graphic card drivers. I am beginning to remember the nightmares we used to have when we upgraded Windows. I don't want to change anything any more. Apple is beginning to suck. I only went to Lion because Apple forced me because of iCloud. MANY REGRETS NOW.Â

I have a 2.2 ghz Macbook, and whenever I plug in the USB connected to my iPod into the side USB ports, I get this "USB Over Current Notice" and it deactivates the USB Hub. It doesn't do it every time, but it does it more often than not. It will do it on both USB ports.I don't think it's a prob w/ my iPod b/c the connection was fine on my old computer. Any way I can fix this? Should I spend the $ on a Genius appt?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a relatively new 1.7 GHz Intel Core i5 MacBook Air, purchased in August of last year. Just recently it started giving me the HDCP error when I tried to play HD TV shows downloaded from iTunes. Given the capability of the display (1440 x 900) this shouldn't be a problem and like I said, I've never had this issue until very recently. I have tried downloading both 720p and 1080p versions of the videos and neither will play for more than a few seconds before the warning appears. Â
I am not plugging my MacBook Air into an external display. In fact, when I play the videos on my Apple TV v2 (both streaming from my machine and via iCloud directly) they play just fine. I have the lastest EFI firmware installed on my machine as well as all other software updates. I have checked to make sure there are not any partial downloads that could be causing a problem. The error also appears if I try to open the content with Quicktime. Â

I'm running Snow Leopard on an Intel iMac, everything up to date, and Disk Utility finds no error on any of the drives. I have a 1 TB external drive connected to USB (bus powered, with a power USB connection to a powered hub, so it has more than enough power). Time Machine fails with a totally unhelpful message that the backup could not be created because a folder could not be created. The external drive has 318 GB used, 481 GB available, so it's not disk space. Yesterday I repartitioned the external drive using the GUID partition scheme, creating a 750 GB Mac extended journaled partition "Time 1GB Tosh" just for Time Machine. The player works perfectly with videos that I play from the laptop but when I try to play a video from [URL] the QuickTime player pops up with the message "URL not valid"! I have tried playing the videos from a different computer and that works without a problem.

I was wondering if there was a way to use the iPhone's audio jack as an external jack for the macbook pro via USB or so, as i own the 13 inch model, that only offers one jack.
I want to use garage band just trying out a bit and i'd need an extra jack for the headphones, otherwise the microphone will record what's played over the internal speakers.
EDIT: I forgot to say that I already tried things like AirPhones, meaning wireless stream to iphone. But there's unfortunately few moments of latency, so i hardly can use it for recording.
I have a few wmv vids on my mac. Up until recently they were all fine. When I went into the folder the all files showed the Qicktime logo on them and played using flip4mac. Now the files are just white with no logo on them and when I click to play one it brings up the message "This movie could not be opened, The file is not a movie file." I have tried reinstalling flip4mac and quicktime but I still have the same issue. Someone told me to try perian but still nothing. I am guessing this is a problem with the files but not sure how this happened or how to fix it.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am having issues with an "inactive plug-in" message in Safari when I want to do something using a Java plug-in. I searched the communities and sure enough, when I opened Java preferences the box next to "enable applet plug-in and Web Start applications" the box was unchecked so I checked it.  Unfortunately, when I go back into preferences, the box is once again unchecked. I did find out that I had a Trojan in the user.jar file associated with java but despite taking care of that issue (which for all I know is not related), this issue persists. All of my software is up to date and from what I gather uninstalling and reinstalling Java is not an option and should not need to be fone.

Yesterday, Safari began crashing every 45 minutes. I get a message that says Safari quit unexpectedly because of a plug-in called .MasterofDefense.tmp. I used finder to search my computer, and I cannot find this file.  PlugIn Path: /Users/<myname>/Library/Application Support/.MasterofDefense.tmpPlugIn Identifier: .MasterofDefense.tmpPlugIn Version:   ??? (???) The file is NOT in that location mentioned in the crash log. According to web searches, MasterofDefense is some game, but I have never installed any games on my machine.Â

I own a 15 inch mid-2010 macbook pro and have Windows installed via bootcamp. Because of this, I often shut down and reboot the computer into the other partition. I would say I switch between Windows and Mac OS X about six times a day.
Since I reboot often, I was just wondering if doing this does any damage to the hard drive or other hardware.
My MBA has the clicking and it is quite annoying but when I am using Windows through Bootcamp, the clicking occurs less frequently and is not as noticeable. Does XP access the hdd differently than OS X.

When I got my MacBook a few weeks back it had a faulty disc drive and subsequently got replaced to the MacBook I have now. Getting back to the point on both this macbook and the first macbook I had it had a strange issue, where sometimes the trackpad cursor would freeze for a few seconds even though I'm moving my finger over the trackpad still. It would occur more often when I have my leftside-finger on the bottom left of the corner and tracking with the my rightside-finger as you would a usual notebook...it happens quite frequently.

The screen will freeze, sound will stop, but the color wheel will spin and i can move it around with the trackpad. I don't know what is causing this/any possible fixes to my problem. I purchased the macbook pro in mid 2009 and it has OS X lion 10.7.3 installed on it.

in the last week or so I've begun having a problem with the WiFi connection on my MBP. While using the Internet, web pages will no longer load, my mail client can't connect to the mail server, etc.When I use the terminal to ping Google or any other site, I get the message that the server can't be found.In the menu bar, the WiFi icon indicates a strong connection, but when I open Network Preferences, it says that WiFi is off.When I click, "Turn WiFi on," the menu bar icon goes to the empty fan icon but WiFi refuses to turn back on again.The only thing that I've found to work is to restart, and once or twice now that hasn't worked either.
One other thing I noticed was that this last week Network Preferences had identified my fitbit tracker USB syncing dongle as a network device and had added it to the list of devices on the left side of the preferences pane.This happened after I had already begun to have problems, and after I deleted the syncing dongle from the list, WiFi came back up again with no problem.This is a MBP with a 2.7 GHz i7, eight GB of RAM, running 10.7.4.Can you offer any solutions or suggestions for further troubleshooting?
