I have a Macbook air and I am having trouble opening my mail. When I click the mail icon it does not open but the on the tray there is a dot indicating it is open. When I try to "quit" mail it won't quit and the dot does not go away. How do I fix this?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have been having problems with my MacBook (Aluminum late 2008, I think, OS 10.5). It runs slowly; files on the desktop and in my "Macintosh HD" often won't open with double-click but have to be opened with File-->Open; there are Word Work Files that won't go away; the trackpad is often stiff and not very responsive; clicking on the mouse is very stiff, despite very easy settings. In short, a lot of things are sluggish. Sometimes, also, I get the spinning beach ball, but not all the time.
I have run disk permissons repair from Disk Utility many times (both from the desktop and from the MacBook install disk); I have replaced the directory with Disk Warrior at least twice; I have verified that the disk is OK; I have zapped the PRAM; and done other things of that kind.
I took the MacBook to an Apple Store yesterday. It had been unplugged and much to my surprise, most everything seemed to be working all right. When I opened it today, however, I found everything as it was before I took it to Apple. Including the Word Work files, which I thought were gone.
If I recall correctly, this started when I was working on a long editing project in Word, but I don't know whether that has anything to do with what has happened. I've done similarly long projects before, and this never happened.
I could try trashing the Word Work files (there seem also to be quite a lot of folders with "recovered" files), but I don't want to do that unless I can be assured that nothing bad will come from doing that.
I know this seems quite comprehensive, and may involve several issues, but I'm really unhappy about this and would love to think there is something more I can do, apart from returning to the Apple Store. Besides everything else, how can I khow that I won't find, again, that the MacBook will work fine there but goes back to its troubled state when I return?

This is my first macbook, and I felt like watching borat but when I put the dvd in, the little disk image goes on my desktop but I can't play it. When I open the disk icon it goes to folder called VIDEO_TS inside is a bunch of images and other stuff. Sounds nooby but how do I watch movies on this thing.EDIT: I had to go into VLC manually and go to open disk.. Why cant I just click on the DVD and click play?

Mac Pro 8 core with LG 21:9 monitor, res set to 3440x1440. It thinks there is also a Sony 1080P monitor attached. Some programs will open their window in some place I cannot see, I am assuming on the non existent monitor. There is no cycling through or access to anywhere else. If I open a new screen (#4) and try to open Messages it also will not display the window. The dock indicates that the program is open but if you click on the icon the program menu does not appear at the top of the screen.

I use tables on microsoft word that are connected to excel. When I click on them the excel opens to may introduce formulas and text. If I close excel the table I modified on excell lays on word with the rest of the text of the report. My doubt is when I add cells to the table on excel....I can't visualize them on word...

I downloaded a bunch of pictures from my wedding which were saved into a .zip folder. Every time I click on the folder to "unzip" it a duplicate folder is created. I've tried searching for the unzipped folder that people have said would be created after double clicking/unzipping the folder, but it's nowhere to be found.

I have to right click the finder icon and then click New Finder Window. Sometimes there is no response for sometime and then finally it does open a window. If I click finder when a window is open it does not shift focus to finder anymore.

When I double click on my hard drive icon, the finder briefly appears then disappears (just a split second) I cannot open the hard drive folder without it immediately closing. This is an old issue, and generally I just try to remember not to check mail when I have a message in progress. But I can't find a screen anywhere in Mail Prefs to turn this feature off. In other words, I only want mail to send messages when I the Send paper airplane icon, not in response to my checking incoming messages. I'm running OS 10.5.8 and Mail v. 3.6 (936).

When I turn on my Powerbook G4 (1.5 GHz) 15" a little Earth icon flashes about 15x. Then a small question mark flashes followed by the Mac smiley face icon. They alternate flashing about a dozen times or so. My computer then goes to the grey-on-grey Apple logo screen, then to the password login screen. I enter password and successfully get to my desktop, HOWEVER:
(1)the font on my menu bar seems to have changed. No big deal?
(2)The menu bar is incomplete as I'm missing my internet signal indicator
(3)My dock is completely gone. Cannot find it anywhere.
(4)I have desktop icons but cannot left click on any of them. When I do I just get a long blank white colored rectangle. When I roll cursor over it it turns blue. Still blank though!
(5)This is the same with the menu bar. When I click on anything (Finder, File, Edit, View, etc) the drop down menu is just blank empty space
My iMac won't open anything when I click on it.

I'm trying to get a Macbook's iSight working. The Macbook is running Leopard, currently. When I go to open Photo Booth, I get the camera icon with a slash through it - indicating the camera isn't connected/available. The same problem happens with other applications. I don't believe it is listed in System Profiler, though if it was listed as something other than "iSight" I could have missed it.
I tried a few applications that are supposed to kick start it, reset the P Ram, reset the SMC, etc to no avail.
My entourage will not open, it shows a ? over the icon when you click to open and does not do anything when you click open.

Since then the number of unread messages shows up on the mail icon only all messages have been read. How do I get rid of the number icon? We had this problem once before when we upgraded our system but I don't remember how we got rid of it.
