PowerPC :: G4 17 Inch Parts Vs 17 Parts
Jan 17, 2010Does anyone know if these parts can be switched out? I know the battery and dc in board cannot be (I don't think) but can the logic board, memory, hard drive, etc be switched? I can't get power in my powerbook and would like to test it with the logic board from my macbook pro.

Sep 15, 2010I noticed 1 of the 2 wires wasn't connected to the wi-fi card. Wireless runs perfectly, and everything else seems to work regardless.
It was the wire on the left that wasn't connected.
Also, I love how the A1181 I bought when Apple first announced the WhiteBook still runs fast and smooth and is so easily self-serviced. Can't say that about any PC laptop.
MacBook :: Same Logic Board In All A1181 Machines?
Jun 16, 2010i purchased two systems, both A1181 machines. one had a functional logic board but screen and clam shell were toast. the other only had the outer case with functional screen. i tried taking the clam shell from the one machine and attaching it to the one with the functional logic board. everything went well until the end when i tried to connect the three wires on the left side of the screen to the logic board. there is a gray and black single wire that connect to the video card i am guessing, and the last connection, which is comprised of 4 small black wires doesn't seem to match the connection on the logic board.
i am wondering if there are logic boards specific to different macbooks. having the same model number is a little confusing. i also found the keyboard connection didn't fit as well as most keyboard connections i have made in the past. i was able to turn the machine on with the power button, but without connecting the last 4-wire connection i didn't get anything on the screen. just a chime.

MacBook :: A1181 Starts To Power Up But Switches Off
Aug 30, 2014Starts to power up from either mains supply or battery, but always switches off after anywhere from 10 seconds to a few minutes. Chimes, usually gets as far as screen coming on etc but then you hear the power cut and it just switches off (sometimes gets as far as login screen). Have tried NVRAM reset SMC etc.

MacBook :: A1181 Blue Screen On Start, Slow Boot
Mar 22, 2012My macboock 3,1 (A1181) is very slow on boot.
At first i get the white apple logo en the round indicator and then the screen turns blue/turcuse and it takes aprox 10min before i see the desktop. Its fast but not very fast to boot into safemode. When the computer is all booted up everything work great!
Ive tried to reinstall Snow Lion after i formated the drive but without any luck. Ive resetted SMC and PRAM. The superdrive has stopped work to, when i insert a disk i spinnsup for a min or a half then it ejects the disc.
I installed snow leopard now thru a external dvd via usb. AND! I almost forgot, the computer doesent get out of sleepmode after i closed the lid,

Hardware :: White A1181 X Battery Stopped Charging
Jan 2, 2010I have a white macbook a1181 and it stopped charging the battery, it runs fine off of the magsafe adapter and the orange light comes on the adapter when the battery is installed and when it's first turned on it shows the battery but says 0% then after a few moments it brings up the x over the battery like it's not even there. I have changed out the battery connector, got a new battery, cleaned the contacts on the magsafe adapter and the magsafe internal connector with alchohol and cotton swab.

Mar 29, 2012increasing the amount of RAM in a MacBook Pro (latest model unibody 15" i7 processor). If I increase the amount of RAM in this laptop from 4Gb to16 Gb, should that in and of itself result in a decrease in battery performance? This is assuming no increase in number of active programs, etc. A friend of mine was told by an Apple employee that just increasing the total RAM in a laptop would result in the battery draining more quickly. I am no computer genius, but that does not sound right to me? After all, why should the battery work harder if the excess RAM is not being used at the time.

Mar 13, 2010A month ago, I started to get kicked off my wireless network seemingly random. I have eight devices on the network, but only my MacBook Pro was affected. I use an Airport Extreme base station - the UFO-looking one from about 2006. This wasn't regular "can't find the network", greyed-out Airport icon kicked off - the icon became an outline and no matter what I tried, only a restart would get me back on (often to be kicked off again within minutes). Again, I have six devices on the network - my wife is in the same room, feet away, and her 2003 iBook stays on the network with no troubles. A week after I started having this problem, I noticed my battery was no longer holding a charge. I just bought a new one. My question: I didn't initially think there might be a connection between the two issues - dying battery and Airport connectivity - but now that I've had the new battery working for a day, I haven't been kicked off the network. Could the bad battery have caused the Airport to totally disconnect?

Before I went over to the "Mac-Side" I played around with different Windows-based screen recording software but couldnt find any that offered seamless recording. Quicktime gives me just that. My problem, however, is this. Whenever I try to record a movie or video clip with screen recording, all I can see of the video is a bunch of white and grey blocks. Is there an option I need to click or a specific resolution I need to record in so I can clip parts of videos?

Feb 23, 2008I got my MBA about 2 weeks ago, and in 3 different occasions some windows and parts of the desktop would show display artifacts. I am attaching snapshots. I didn't recognize any specific pattern that could cause this, and the CPU was not overheating when the fact happened. Every time it was sufficient to reboot the system, and the problem disappeared. I am worried it might be a hardware issue, maybe related to the integrated graphics. Should I have the MBA replaced?

May 10, 2009I have had this macbook pro now for about 3-4 months and last week it started showing weird yellow/white stripes on places where it should be completely white. It comes and goes from time to time and it seems to be effected by the hardware itself, since when I move my screen it comes and goes. But when I make a screenshot of an opened window, like iCal, with lots of white space, it does not show the yellow-like stripes. I tried adjusting the contrast at universal access but it didn't work.

Jun 23, 2014My MacBook Pro is running hot. The Apple store ran tests overnight and said it is above average. Their suggestion was to send it to the Service Depot and for $310 plus tax anything out of spec will be replaced. Basically sounds like a good deal but I can't give up the machine for the 3-5 days it takes. I typically have many things open, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Calendar, Mail, Safari and have multiple things open in each. Would reducing that number have any impact on the heat being generated?

Jan 19, 2010So, I screwed up a couple months ago and stuck my MBP in my backpack's padded laptop compartment within a SECOND case, only to pull it out at my destination and immediately notice this:
The way out of line upper case was like that before, but the bent optical slot was new. I guess I had too much in my bag, even though it was all clothing and, again, the laptop was inside TWO cases. Anyways, for about a month I got by getting discs in and out only when I really needed to, with various techniques to get the gap open just enough to let it slip out. More recently I opened the computer up to see what I could do. I removed the optical drive, but absolutely could not find a way to bend the aluminum back into shape. I thought it would be easy enough with some care, but there's a piece of steel, probably to support that very part of the case, glued to the case there - and it won't budge.
The situation right now is that I have a disc in the drive that I can't get out (it's gone past the point of tricking it into just barely making it), which would be okay except for a few points: (1) I can't use optical media any more, and while I don't usually do a lot of that, I do need to once or twice a month minimum. (2) The computer has to spin up the optical drive every few minutes while moving around the operating system, which takes a few annoying and unnecessary seconds. (3) I'll never be able to sell this machine in a year or so for what it's worth without this damage.
I've done about all the communication I can with Apple, including trying the sjobs@apple(..) route, which has worked in the past for other issues. I am covered by Apple Care, I'm about 6 months into the two years, the laptop is about 18 months old. I was told at the Genius Bar twice that it would not be covered, but I forgot both times to get an approximate cost, but I'm thinking expensive.
So I'm looking for a few tips...How much is the repair cost typically for a bottom case?
Where is the best place to find either a new bottom case (i.e. not used), or a used one that is in good cosmetic condition (i.e. not scratched and dented)?
If I do choose to do the repair myself (likely the plan if Apple is going to charge over $400), it seems like a very extensive and somewhat risky job. I know there are iFixIt guides to get me through it, but I have had big problems in the past with messing up screws (guess I just need a better set of small screwdrivers). I also can't seem to get a decent Torx T6/4 that can handle some of the more serious case screws - I've twisted the head right off one and malformed another pretty badly. Is doing the repair myself realistic? How would you rate the risk, and any suggestions for a kit that will let me do the job as best as possible?

Jun 14, 2012Anyone having trouble with Hardware replacement due to stop of manufacturing?I went to the one and only Apple Store in Hong Kong today and after they have checked my Macbook Pro which I bought in 2007. They said my logic board is malfunctioning and there are no spare parts anymore, also there will be no parts manufactured of the Logic board for my Macbook Pro.So due to Apple's policy I am doomed to buy a new lap top as there is simply no parts to fix this Hardware problem What can I do? I expect to have bought a good product but eventually due to a Hardware problem I am stuck and FORCED to buy a new lap top. I really feel up set as I don't have any options offered besides a Apple Care plan!! But that's useless when I don't have a good running Apple Macbook right ?

Mar 3, 2008I downloaded Catalyst Control Center and the latest XP Pro drivers for the 2600XT from ATI's site. In XP I installed the new drivers and ran CCC's built-in overclocking utility which tests the card and makes recommendations for boosting the speeds. The program recommended increasing the clock/memory from 700/800 to 760/860.
