MacBook :: System Not Starting - Wait State Icon Spinning
Jan 21, 2010Any ideas how I might get my MB to start. I open the cover and press the powerbutton. The wait-state icon comes up and spins and spins and spins.

MacBook Pro :: Spinning Wait Cursor On Startup And When Using Finder
Jun 13, 2012I have a late 2011 Macbook pro with the most updated OS X Lion. My problem is whenever I turn off the computer and turn it on I get the spinning wait cursor. It takes about 7 minutes or so before the cursor will go away and I can use the computer again. From then on it will work well until I need to access something in finder, whether its clicking on the finder icon or opening a folder - then it will appear again for 30 seconds or so (occasionally the spinning cursor won't go away so i am forced to turn off the notebook). It's not every time I access finder but its pretty close to 50/50. I backed everything up an external drive and reinstalled the operating system however the problem was not fixed and I still get the spinning wait cursor when I start up the notebook and about 50% of the time when I access finder.

MacBook Pro :: Restore System Back To Original State?
Apr 5, 2012I have just purchased a new MacBook Pro, however i was never issued with any recovery DVD's. In the event of a full re-instillation how would i be able to restore my system back to original state? When i spoke to the assistant in the apple shop, he told me that they were not required, is this correct? Can i purchase the recovery DVD's from Apple?

Jun 19, 2012I just lost a lot of pictures and not sure what happen. I am looking for ways to restore the system to an earlier state. I did not setup Time Machine to begin with. I know I could do a system restore with windows but i am not sure if there is such a thing with MAC without using Time Machine.

Jun 24, 2012I am just new here, and not really a tech guy so I was in panic when I encountered the issue with my MacBook Pro. I will be as detailed as possible here so you might be able to help me out with my problem. I encountered network issue of not able to connect so I first did a RESTART but the restart did nut push through. It ended up in black screen only for a long time. Having no response, I hard booted the machine by doing a long press on the power key. The machine totally shut down after. After a couple of minutes, I pressed the power button and my laptop started. I can hear the usual sound during restart. After a couple of minutes, the MAC logo appears with a gray background, the usual start process. However, what alarmed me is that it stayed in that screen forever, it did not continue. The keyboard lights are also off, which is usually lighted when I had successfully powered my laptop. I am sure there are sufficient battery since I also checked on the battery indicator. having waited for more than 30 minutes, nothing happened and the display is the same (the Mac Logo in gray back ground). I did another forced shutdown by doing a long press on the power button. After 6 hours, hoping some time would make it work, I tried turning on the laptop, however I am still getting the same screen.

MacBook Pro :: System Not Starting Up After Upgrading RAM
Dec 10, 2010I upgraded my MacBook's ram tonight and now when I turn it on the Apple logo an spinning thing come up then after a bit the screen dims and it says, "you need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button untill it turns off, then press the power button again." I had two 1gb sticks and I put in a 2gb so I'll have three. I put the new one in the top slot but accidentally poped up the bottom one too. I've tryed about four times and put the original one in and get the same results. Could it be that I didn't push it in enough. If I can't get it to work tonight can I take it to the Apple store for them to see, and will I still be covered, I know they don't cover the new ram.

MacBook Pro :: White Screen Of Doom After Installing Updates / Mouse Icon Continuously Spinning

Backstory: Sunday the updates window popped up so I let it run and reboot. Boot screen is stuck on the white screen with apple logo and spinning icon. None of the typical hotkeys were working like the Shift key to go to Safe Mode. I decided to resinstall Snow Leopard which went perfectly fine since I was able to boot off of the Install DVD. Everything seemed fine after the install and I had all of my previous programs and files.
It worked fine all day yesterday until I shut the lid to leave work. I got home, opened the lid and the spinning mouse icon was continuously spinning. I could move the mouse but couldn't click anything. I shut it down using the power button. Upon booting it up I did not hear the boot up sound but a white screen displayed and didn't do anything from there. I rebooted it again, inserted the Snow Leopard DVD to try and boot off of that and it won't even boot off of the DVD. None of the typical hotkeys work either, not even to eject the DVD. I do hear the DVD spinning up but it doesn't do anything; just a white screen.
I did reset the PRAM which forced it to reboot and I got the startup sound back but it still only shows a white screen. Any ideas? I forgot to purchase Apple Care last month before my 1 year warranty ran out so I'm 1.5 months out of that.
OS X :: How To Monitor Starting Applications (Dock Icon)
Nov 19, 2008Since a few days something randomly appears in the dock for a split second. It doesn't stay on for enough time to really see what it is. I've tried to narrow it down but I couldn't find anything in the logs. All I know is that perceived by peripheral vision, it looks similar to the Console icon. I'd really like to know, since this behavior is quite suspicious. Is there an app recording the start of a new process? Alternatively I could make a screenshot every 125ms, but that's not really an elegant solution (plus an image of this icon). I haven't installed anything except Lyx and ProVoc recently.

PowerPC :: IBook G4 Grey Screen / Spinning Icon
Sep 9, 2009my problem: IBook G4 that recently on reboot is just sitting on the grey screen with the spinning icon as seen here:
what i have done: basically followed apple's tips here
1- booted into safe mode; no change
2- booted into safe mode with shift-command-v to watch the boot; and it just loops around and around; no change
3- reset the nvram/pram; no change
4- booted into single-user mode; ran "fsck -fy" and returned with no errors and "...OK" and rebooted; no change
5- would move on to using my boot disc, however, here is the difficulty- my cd player gave out a bit ago and never replaced it.
so any suggestions? put in a new cd drive? would it recognize it? bring it into the store? i have searched around and haven't seen what to do in my kind of case.

Oct 15, 2008Just today I've noticed that the time machine icon in my menu bar won't stop spinning. Finally, I clicked it and it says that it has been "preparing backup" all day long. I stopped the backup just to see if it was a one-time glitch. One hour later, the same thing happened. I gave it thirty minutes and the entire time it said it was "preparing backup"
How can I fix this? I already tried turning TM on and off, that didn't do the trick.
Mac Mini :: Intel Won't Boot - Grey Screen With Spinning Little Icon
Jul 18, 2009I have a Mac Mini that my sister gave me because she said it stopped working. She said she wanted me to get all her photos off of it. Its a Model A1176 1.66/2X512/80/COMBO/AP/BT I tried playing with it and it powers up, shows the Apple on a grey screen with a spinning little icon.. It does that for about 30 sec and then turns off. I opened it up, took the hard drive out, put it into an external USB case and hooked it up to my Windows PC and loaded MacDrive 8 software. Got the drive to be recognized on the PC and backed up all her photos.

PowerPC :: Hd Not Picking Up / Grey Screen Shows Up With Icon And No Spinning Wheel
Nov 28, 2008I changed the permissions from read only to read and write on my start up HD and chose the change everything inside option to read and write. After I did this, my secondary HD no longer allowed me to use it saying I did not have permission. When I tried to change it all selections were in custom mode and would not accept my changes. Same with my main HD.
I rebooted and the grey screen shows up with icon and no spinning wheel. I tried safe mode...same thing. I even tried booting off my back up firewire drive and got a null sign on the grey screen instead of an apple icon. Booted up from the G5 disk and tried to run utilities permissions repair and it would not do it, gave me an error, "No valid packages". Ran disk repair and it said nothing needs repairing. I then booted up using Disk Warrior and rebuilt the HD's directory successfully, but still the G5 will not boot past the icon grey screen, no spinning wheel. I'm spinning though...HELP, I'm dying here. FYI this is a G5 dual core Cypher running Leopard with 3.5 gigs of ram. The start up HD is 250 gig and the secondary is 500 gig

Jun 20, 2012I had LogMeIn installed on my iMac and it worked fine for a while. Then the icon for the program in the menu bar at the top of the screen went gray. When I hover the mouse over the icon a spinning pinwheel appears, so I can't click the icon to start the program. I deleted the program and then reinstalled it, but the gray icon and spinning wheel never whent away. how to delete the spinning wheel

Sep 8, 2007Did a quick search and couldn't find anything. My HD in my powerbook and full and I can't seem to start up my powerbook because the hard drive is so full. Does anyone know a way to get the computer started up so I can free up some space in my hard drive? I also have an external HD if that is of any help.

Feb 5, 2009has all my art course work on. When pressing the power button there is no start up, screen stays black. There is a noise from the Disc Drive, when you put your ear close you can hear the Disc spinning, occasionally it starts to make a loader noise like its trying to spin to full speed maybe, but stops before it can. Green light can be seen from bottom, tried unplugging and waiting, tried pressing the cmd R-P keys down at start up. Also tried as suggested on the apple website to use a paper clip to manually eject the disc.

Oct 16, 2009My SL was working perfectly until yesterday. I got my late 08 UMBP back from AppleCare without any replacement (see post here). They just run a kind of apple test suit on an external OSX, I guess they booted from a firewire disk.
Anyway, now I getting very often a system hang with a spinning wheel. When I try to repair permissions in the Disk Utility, the progress it stays like 10 minutes on the same place at the very beginning, then spinning wheel again then the system doesn't react. I can move the mouse that's all.

MacBook :: Boot Camp Icon In System Tray Went Away And No Sound
Jan 16, 2009I have a 2.0ghz unibody macbook, and i installed windows xp on the boot camp partition, installed drivers, up until here everything was working fine.. i decided it would be a good idea to upgrade to bootcamp 2.1 and then suddenly the boot camp icon in my system tray went away,
and so did the nvidia panel and the sound no longer worked.. now im stuck and i have no sound. I tried reinstalling the drivers using the cd and it still doesnt work.. also when i remove my headphones there is a red light coming from the jack.. how do i get my sound back?
