View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter some partition troubles I popped in my snow leopard disc and erased my HD. I then made a windows partition. Then, I tried to restore from a time machine back up I had. It finished restoring and said to restart, so I did. It doesn't get past the apple sign though. After the grey screen with and apple logo sit their for a few seconds it kernal panics. I can't get any farther than that. Should I re-restore or what?

A week ago my Mac stalled, wouldn't even go passed the startup point. I booted from disk and did all the stuff you have to do before I resigned to failure and deleted my hardrive and reinstalled the OS.
Good news is, Mac is back, working perfectly.
I recently had to restore my 1st gen MBP. I recovered essentially all of its files: Users, Library, and Applications, because I wanted to be able to restore things just as they were, without having to re-install 20 apps and change the settings again on 50. I followed Apple's instructions on how to restore "Users", but that's all that they instruct for. I know that restoring my system library is what led to the following problems, but I have virtually no Terminal knowledge and would like to know if there are things I can do to fix these issues: I very often get asked for the system keychain password. I know exactly what it is, but it denies me every time. Once that window goes away (even with 'cancel') most things seem to run fine. But I often have to enter other passwords later.
--My wireless networks are not automatically accessed (I think this is related to the previous issue) until I choose one of them. At least it doesn't ask me for the network passwords every time.
--Sometimes if I right-click on an image to open it in Preview it gives me two preview programs to choose from, but only the older one opens. I only have one 'Preview' in Applications.
I have this computer which I will be lending to my friend for a year or two that I think came with leopard. I have snow leopard here and I want to install it before passing it over to her. what is the easiest solution to giving her the computer in factory settings with snow leopard on it?

I had to restore my Macbook Pro to a previous backup because of an issue I am experiencing. I seleted the Restore option in Lion Recovery, I seleteced the backup I want to restore from on my Time Capsule to restore, initially the restoration looked good. However once the progress reached 0.6% the restore simply stopped and the estimated time rocketed indefinitely up to some 200 hours. After I gave it a second attempt, this time again the restoration stopped at 0.6%, and when the estimated time reached around 26 hours an error message showed up saying the files cannot be restored and prompted me to restart my computer. I have attempted a repair of the sparesbundle in Disk Utility on my iMac and I am giving it a third attempt. I haven't done anything to the sparesbundle file and it backs up perfectly fine up until this morning right before I decided to restore my old system so I am brushing file corruption aside.

My snow leopard has been performing really badly, so its been recommended that I do a clean install, however I am not too sure how to go about it. The main issues are how I actually start the whole process, and the second thing is what I need to be aware of when restoring from backup? I assume you need to use migration assistant, is it possible to restore documents and music, or only applications and settings?

View 5 Replies View RelatedHi y'all: i just purchased FCP Studio 5 retail (ouch) and installed it, but not before i had a deal fall through with someone who had "sold" me their copy but then rescinded the deal. So, i have my own copy now, but i have THEIR license key registration - i need to enter mine, but throwing the apps away doesn't delete this info; it's stored somewhere else.
can anyone point me to the correct file for deletion, so that when i relaunch any of the studio apps, i will be prompted for (correct) license key information?
My HD just died and needs to be replace with a new one. Current it has a copy of Leopard on it that I installed from a Family Pack of licenses which is used up. How do I go about using the same license from me dead HD on the replacement HD? Is this even possible?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI need to install windows on my iMac. The plan is to install it in under bootcamp so that my better half can boot to windows for her stuff, which is straight forward enough. I will probably install parallels (or similar) to give myself the option of either boot to windows or access it virtually. Now, on the basis that this is a first for me I have a couple of questions that I could do with answering from those that know this stuff.
1. Am I likely to run into any windows licensing issues. I'm assuming that I will only need 1 license.
2. If I edit a file, a word .doc for example, in a virtual window, is that edit saved to the original file? e.g. if I then boot to windows and open the file, then the edits made virtually are there. Simple stuff I know, but like I said, it's a first for me.
3. What are my options for backing up the windows partition, can I back it up using Time Machine / Capsule?
I have a Windows 7 Professional 64bit key that I am using under Parallels on my Mac Pro 1,1. I understand that installing 64bit under bootcamp is not supported on my model but it is an arbitrary restriction by Apple and there are ways around it. My question is... Can I use the same license key to install both under Parallels and under Boot Camp? Seems to me I can since it is the same hunk of hardware but not sure if it would mess up the activation process?
