Intel Mac :: Formatted Now Cannot Find Original Restoration CD
Apr 30, 2012
I formatted my IMac (24 inch early 2008). But I found out that the Restoration cd I had was of my macbook... Now I can't found the original restoration cd. I was told that Apple can send me a new cd... is it true? What I have to do?

I have a Powerbook Power PC G4 (1.5) running 10.4.11. I want to update to Leopard. I don't know how to find out if my machine is UFS formatted. I assume the update would have to be done by Mac technicians if it is?
I also read something about speed affecting whether the G4 can run Leopard. Is that bus speed (Mine is currently 167 MHz) or CPU speed (mine is 1.5 GHz)? If it is bus speed, can it be increased enough?

I have a MacBook with MacOS 10.5.5. I purchased Snow Leopard and want to install it, but I forgot my master password. I know what the password is supposed to be, but it doesn't work when I type it in.
I cannot find my original MacOS 10.5 disk to re-do the password.

I'm trying to find my original photos that I think are stored somewhere in Iphoto. Whenever I go to my user in finder, then to pictures, I see the photo library option, but when I hope it, it takes me to the IPhoto application, and I still can't find my unmodified originals.

I really need some help on this one and you all have always been so responsive.  I have a canon HD camcorder vixia HFR20. i am on a imac, Lion, 10.7.3, 266 GHZ Intel Core Duo, i have downloaded grandsons football videos to Mac, edited them and stored them on a WD External Hard Drive.  After trying to burn grainyless DVD's ( and believe me i tried numerous times and it just would not work), i thought i would go ahead and transfer the videos to my PC and then burn the DVDs.  I did a test on on my PC with a little bit of footage i filmed yesterday and it was crystal clear.  So, how do i transfer or copy the videos from my External HD or even copy them back to my Mac and then transfer them to my PC. Now please keep in mind, it has to be simple or at least somewhat simple i don't want to lose them or mess them up.  I have read about migrating, or hooking up PC and Mac and partioning, and all kinds of stuff that i cannot make sense of,

I've looked at some other posts that have gone over how to move files to an external drive, and they all say to use command while moving. I understand this copies the file and deletes the original, but when you make a copy and delete the original, you lose some of the original data, such as creation date, etc... This makes storage and organization more complicated than it has to be.

After some partition troubles I popped in my snow leopard disc and erased my HD. I then made a windows partition. Then, I tried to restore from a time machine back up I had. It finished restoring and said to restart, so I did. It doesn't get past the apple sign though. After the grey screen with and apple logo sit their for a few seconds it kernal panics. I can't get any farther than that. Should I re-restore or what?

Okay, so here's the deal, and I preface this with the obligatory 'yes I know I should have backed up my data and I'm a dumbass for not doing this.'
A week ago my Mac stalled, wouldn't even go passed the startup point. I booted from disk and did all the stuff you have to do before I resigned to failure and deleted my hardrive and reinstalled the OS.
Good news is, Mac is back, working perfectly.

I recently had to restore my 1st gen MBP. I recovered essentially all of its files: Users, Library, and Applications, because I wanted to be able to restore things just as they were, without having to re-install 20 apps and change the settings again on 50. I followed Apple's instructions on how to restore "Users", but that's all that they instruct for. I know that restoring my system library is what led to the following problems, but I have virtually no Terminal knowledge and would like to know if there are things I can do to fix these issues: I very often get asked for the system keychain password. I know exactly what it is, but it denies me every time. Once that window goes away (even with 'cancel') most things seem to run fine. But I often have to enter other passwords later.
--My wireless networks are not automatically accessed (I think this is related to the previous issue) until I choose one of them. At least it doesn't ask me for the network passwords every time.
--Sometimes if I right-click on an image to open it in Preview it gives me two preview programs to choose from, but only the older one opens. I only have one 'Preview' in Applications.

I had to restore my Macbook Pro to a previous backup because of an issue I am experiencing. I seleted the Restore option in Lion Recovery, I seleteced the backup I want to restore from on my Time Capsule to restore, initially the restoration looked good. However once the progress reached 0.6% the restore simply stopped and the estimated time rocketed indefinitely up to some 200 hours. After I gave it a second attempt, this time again the restoration stopped at 0.6%, and when the estimated time reached around 26 hours an error message showed up saying the files cannot be restored and prompted me to restart my computer. I have attempted a repair of the sparesbundle in Disk Utility on my iMac and I am giving it a third attempt. I haven't done anything to the sparesbundle file and it backs up perfectly fine up until this morning right before I decided to restore my old system so I am brushing file corruption aside.

My snow leopard has been performing really badly, so its been recommended that I do a clean install, however I am not too sure how to go about it. The main issues are how I actually start the whole process, and the second thing is what I need to be aware of when restoring from backup? I assume you need to use migration assistant, is it possible to restore documents and music, or only applications and settings?

I then want to upgrade the system drive in the Mac mini to a 320 GB drive and restore from the Time Machine backup with all my programs, settings and files. Will it work even if the back up and restoration drive sizes are different?

I have a 2008 iMac running Lion 10.7.2. I am trying to reset my Admin P/W,( I do not remember setting one up in the first place, but trying to use Terminal recently to do Maintenance scripts, it asked for one, which I cannot oblige it with). (I only put in a Master P/W). Â
The method I have been reading requires using the original software disk supplied with the Mac. My iMac came with Leopard, whch I upgraded to Snow Leopard and now to Lion.Â
Will the original Leopard disk be suitable for the above? or do I require the Lion recovery or whatever to do this task.Â
