I am running an approx 2 year old Macbook on my wifi network and have noticed that the download speeds are very slow all of a sudden.Testing with speedtest.net I am only getting 0.5MB/s compared to normal speeds of 2.5MB/s.I don't think it's the router because my iPhone is consistently showing 2-2.5MB/s.I have run software update to ensure everything is up to date.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an aluminum Macbook on a wireless network. My network is configured as follows: In the area covered by the AP, I have the Macbook and an old, busted PC. The PC works fine, and internet is as fast as if it was plugged in. The mac says it has full signal, but the internet speed varies greatly. This Macbook tends to show full bars even when the signal is weak, though. Sometimes it loads pages fast, sometimes, it takes almost a full minute to load pages. While I haven't tested it on many other networks, it appears to work fine elsewhere. Anyone have any idea what the problem is? It's almost as if the Macbook isn't connecting to the AP and is connecting straight to the main router which is far away. As I was typing this post, the Macbook completely lost wifi signal.

Ok so we've all heard about the issues with airport on the MacBook. Well I've had mine for about 3 yrs now and this problem with airport wifi connection has progressively been getting worse over the last yr. I took the MacBook in last week and they wanted �170 to put in a new network card and antena. Bit much I think.! So they told me I could buy a �35 USB wifi dongle thing.

View 15 Replies View RelatedSo I have the 2010 White Unibody 2.4Ghz Macbook and the airport works perfectly fine whether I am at home, the library, school, etc. The problem I am having with it is when I am at home and using the airport, and my iPhone is also connected to the same network, the wifi will work on my iPhone but will stop working on my Macbook. It still shows I am connected but it will not connect to any webpages. As soon as I turn off the Wifi on my iPhone and refresh the page on my Macbook, it will load. Is there anything I can do to fix this. By the way, My Toshiba laptop has no problem with using Wifi the same time my iPhone is connected to it, my Macbook is the only one having problems.

I am using my computer as a router to get wifi on my iPhone, it sees the network but still can’t get connected, the mac docent send IP address or subnet mask numbers ..etc to the phone, although the same phone is able to get connected to other macs/routers fine, what can i do to my mac?

I'm beginning to wonder if Apple put a lousy Airport card in the new MBA. No matter what the wifi hotspot, I get downloads of 2MB. I just bought a new Airport Extreme at home and I really thought the MBA would be faster.
Am I missing something here? Do I have to "match up" the MBA with my Extreme to use the fast "N" connection? Or is there some network setting to tweak on the new MBA?
Does anyone else notice the MBA takes a long time to reconnect to your wifi network after awaking from sleep? I'd say it takes 10-15 seconds vs. a MBP which takes less than 5 seconds.Not a huge deal, but I'd say it's one of the slowest notebooks I've used to reconnect to a wifi network.

A 33.6MB file has just taken 45 mins!
I'm doing nothing differently from when I used my very old (5 years) G4 PowerBook to transfer content. As a quick test, I've just transferred the same file to that lap top in about 15 seconds.
A few weeks ago I noticed my internet running incredibly slow on one side of my room. This side being the farthest from the router. To my knowledge nothing new had happened enviromently to cause this problem. I went through the motions of reseting my router and still the problem persits. I decided to take in my Macbook Pro into the Genius Bar and they replaced the Airport and Bluetooth components. Today I finally got it back and quickly my enthusiasim was dashed to find out that I'm still haivng the same problem. I'm only having this problem on my Macbook Pro since I have both a Nexus S android phone and an Asus Transformer tablet that runs perfectly fine on that side, well all sides, of my room.

I'm experiencing very slow speeds on my new Macbook Air 13" mid 2012. For example when I'm transferring files from my NAS, a Qnap TS-259 Pro+, wirelessly through my D-Link DIR 855 router. I barely reach speeds around 1MB/s. If I use my Windows 7 laptop, that sits right next to my Mac, to transfer the exact same file I get constant speeds around 6MB/s. That's six times faster.
Is there a known issue with the wifi that I've missed?
I did some further testing to try and identify the cause of the wifi problem. I installed Windows 7 in Parallels and transferred the exact the same files once again. Here's where it becomes interesting. Transferring those same files on my Macbook, using Windows 7 under Parallels, the speed was the same as it was on my physical Windows 7 machine, i.e. a constant speed of around 6MB/s. I then switched back to Mac OSX again and the speed once again decreased to around 1MB/s.

i just got my 2012 Retina MBP and i absolutely love it. there's one problem though. wifi is EXTREMELY slow.
we have a campus-wide 802.11n network, all my other devices work flawlessly.
can i somehow force my MBP NOT to use the 5 GHz band but to stay at 2.4 GHz? I believe i somewhere read that this could fix the problem. ethernet via thunderbolt works as supposed.

Until recently, when I downloaded an app update on my iPhone, it would automatically - without syncing - remove that same app update on iTunes and vice versa. Now it does this only when I download the update to my iTunes and then sync using USB.When I do a wired sync. I can't figure out how to make it do it again automatically.

I installed XP pro SP3 on Macbook aluminum 2.4 ghz.Updated all drivers but running windows update downloading < 20 kb/sec. Only downloading on speedtest half what normal wifi runs.

When trying to connect to the internet via wireless, it kept coming up with “Wi-Fi does not have an IP address and cannot connect to the Internet.”
So I ran a search on google on how to try and sort it. I followed the following instructions : Add a New Network Location & Renew DHCP LeaseLaunch “System Preferences” from the Apple menuSelect the “Network” panelClick on the “Location” pull down menu and choose “Edit Locations…”Click on the + plus icon to add a new network location, give it a unique name, and click “Done”Back at the Network panel with the newly created location selected, click on “Advanced” in the bottom right cornerClick on the “TCP/IP” tabClick on “Renew DHCP Lease” and wait for the numbers on the left to repopulate, then click “OK”
I was absolutely thrilled as it worked!!! … and continues to work ... The only problem now is that my Macbook is the only one in the house that can connect to the internet wirelessly. When I try and connect my iPhone 4 it asks me for the Password then says “Unable to join network” and also my mums laptop refuses to join wifi …. She’s not happy with me as she now has to run it via ethernet. I tried to set up my iPhone manually, but with no joy as I'm not sure what I'm doing

I have had my 15" i7 MBP for around a week now, and a handful of times (3 times last night) it just decided it doesnt want to connect to the internet.The WiFi Signal still says its connected full, and other laptops don't have an issue (not even my old 13" MacBook).I have tried changing the DNS to OpenDns and to Google's DNS but with no luck. The problem is intermittent, and it will be fine for a day, then it will just decide it doesn't want to work.

I thought this might just be a Safari 4 bug, but having the same (in fact slightly worse) experience with firefox. Odd thing is that my iPhone, on the same wirelss network is performing at normal (i.e. much faster) speeds. Running 10.5.7, no new apps, downloads or plug-ins, and I've reset safari & rebooted. Even repaired disk permissions. No improvement.

I have an Airport Extreme (latest model, 5th gen, A1408) based network (all updates applied). I have a new 2012 MacBook Air (11") that I noticed was suffering from VERY slow wifi speeds. After looking into it, I realized that if I used the configuration utility to separately name the 5GHz network and connect to wifi on the 2.4 Ghz network, the speed radically improved.
To illustrate, using speedtest.net, I saw download speeds of 35-38 Mb/s using the 2.4 Ghz network. This drops to 2-3 Mb/s when using the 5 Ghz network. The Macbook Air is showing an RSSI value of -56 when connected via 5 GHz and -51 when connected via 2.4 Ghz.
Other deivces in the home have normal connection speeds on the 5 GHz network, as does a previous generation, 2011 MacBook Air.A friend's also new, 2012 11" MacBook Air exhibits the same symptoms, so the issue is not specific to my unit.

I am planning to order the air so I won't be able to check out the screen as I ll be having it shipped to me, so I was wandering, is it worth the risk due to the screen problems or should I play it safe with a mbp? Have apple started releasing screens with marked improvements or are we still seeing the problems with lines of the earlier batches.

I have a 2.8ghz macbook pro running leopard and after finally downloading the latest software update bringing me to 10.5.8 I feel it's running hotter nearly all the time.when simply using garageband, my MBP never usually ran hotter than 125 F, but after the update it runs at 180 constantly in garageband. could the update have done anything to make this happen, it's the only change I can think of
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy MacBook had the trackpad clicks-not-registering problem that was cleared up by the Trackpad Firmware Update in November. Unfortunately, a variant of that problem seems to have surfaced. When waking from sleep or on boot, roughly half of the trackpad's clicks won't register, forcing me to click two or more times to start an app or read mail. After five or ten minutes, the problem seems to abate. I still "lose" clicks now and then, but not as often. Note that other trackpad functions seem unaffected when this happens.
I've tried resetting the SMC (no effect) and PRAM. Resetting PRAM cleared up the problem but only briefly, and now it's recurring.
I took the MacBook to the Genius Bar and the Genius suggested I use "tap to click" instead, but while that works, I'm a sloppy clicker and found that setting irritating.
Sorry for the title but I couldn't think of anything better. Hopefully I'll be able to explain my problem. I have a MPR 2.53 ghz, 4 gig ram, I'm using Safari 4.04. I am using the WIFI at a guesthouse in Thailand (but I had the same issue in China, Vietnam ...). I ran a speed test and it said download 7mb/sec and upload about 1mb/sec. I have an "app" that says bandwidth in 1.3kb/sec out 1.0kbs. I thought maybe it was Safari so I downloaded and installed Firefox. firefox gives me similar speeds. When I downloaded Firefox though I had a download speed of over 1mb/sec. But as soon as it finished downloading the speed went back to around 1kb/sec. I have rebooted my MBP many times. I did some Google searches but didn't find anything helpful.
