MacBook :: Running Lion On 3,1?
Mar 31, 2012
least using OS X Lion on a MacBook 3,1 with a 2.2 GHz Core 2 Duo and 4 gigs of RAM or a similar system. I'm thinking about moving up from Snow Leopard 10.6.8 but don't want to do it if it's going to bog the computer down. I know the machine satisfies the basic system requirements, but I want it to be usable in a non-frustrating way.

I am running OS X Lion on my startup disk is full. I checked my storage in the about this mac window. 49.72GB of my HD space is taken up by Other. Also in Disk Utility under the partition almost the entire rectangle is light blue. I am worried that my MacBook is to old to run the software. I use my machine to run Adobe CS4. The error turns up when I run Photoshop so I am unable to run the program at all.Â

I have:
- Freecom ToughDrive Pro USB hard drive
- New MBP running Lion 10.7.3Â
When I plug the disk in an USB port in the MBP, the light that indicates operation starts blinking but very lighltly colored and the disk is not recognized by the computer. I have put data on it using iMac Snow Leopard. I have plugged the disk into a MBP running Snow Leopard and it works. I have also tried another Lion (older MBP) and it also works.Â
How come the disk is not mounted or shown in Disk Utility. Can it be a power issue?
I have noticed there a lot of similar posts in the forum and none has been satisfactorily solved. Is this a mayor Lion bug? If yes, how can I downgrade to Snow Leopard?

In Address Book, cursor didn't click in search field. I plugged a mouse in to check if it's the mouse pad. No change. Quit and restarted address book so I can now type in the search field but it still won't navigate to the name I type in. Nor does it respond once I scroll down to the card I want and click on the name.

I have a Lion-native early 2011 13-inch MacBook Pro aluminum unibody running 10.7.3.I was using it an hour and a half ago.I closed the lid, and when I came back to it an hour later, the battery had died.Plugging in to a charger did not wake it.I force shut it down by holding command+option+control+shift and the power button. Now, when I turn it on, I see the white screen for a half second, then it fades to black. The indicator light stays on and solid (not pulsating).I have tried:
- Resetting the PMU
- Resetting the PRAM (white screen for half second, then fades to black, each time)
- Booting to Single User (white, then fades to black)
- Booting to Recovery Mode (white, then fades to black)
I have tried to provide all the pertinent details as well as what I have tried. Please let me know if you need more information.

I have a mid-2009 Macbook Pro running Lion 10.7.4. Since I upgraded to Lion the external display stopped working altogether. After connecting adapter to laptop the screen on the laptop goes blue for a moment and then returns to normal. However, the external display is never detected.
I searched in forums before sending this message, but most problems I found are related with some glitches of the screen and they seem to be getting some image in the external monitor. In my case... it simply stopped working at all.

Mac started to run slow every now and then, updated to yosemite and now getting worse, slow to open programmes like iPhoto (getting jammed when using), websites and switching between the two. Get a coloured wheel often. More worryingly recently when waking from sleep, the left half of my screen is distorted like an old unturned TV!!

I have a Macbook running Leopard and an iMac running Tiger. I am looking to upgrade Leopard to Snow Leopard and Tiger to Leopard. If I were to purchase Snow Leopard and install it on the Macbook, would I then be able to use the copy of Leopard that came with the Macbook on the iMac? I am not trying to use 2 copies of the same thing on different machines, I just want to put a new os on one machine and move the existing one to another.I am reluctant to purchase the Mac Box Set version of Snow Leopard for the iMac because I do not want or need iLife and iWork.

My Macbook Pro (from mid-2010) has recently started running EXTREMELY slowly, and the fan continuously runs loudly. From other posts, I have checked my activity monitor to see if any process is taking up a lot of the CPU % and have found that nothing seems high, except the kernel_task which, from what I understand, is supposed to be high. I have also attempted to reset the SMC which didn't fix the problem either. I have taken my computer to the genius bar 3 times now, and they keep telling me nothing is wrong (because it works perfectly there), but when I get it home the fan comes back on, and everything runs slowly.

My Mac feels as if it is running slower these last couple of months. I have thought of pursuing a commercially available "clean up" product, but thought I would try the community first and also for pointers using the Mac's own internal diagnostics or system improvement capabilities. Any and all advice is most welcome. I have a 250GB hard drive that is half full, I always update to latest revisions and have an extra high-speed internet connection. Computer is not heavily loaded with apps and typically using Firefox for browsing. (MS Office for Mac as well, but usually limited to one program such as MS Word or Excel at a time.) No heavy graphics utilization. Videos from the internet load slowly and some are choppy. Even scrolling just doesn't seem "brisk".
