im kind of new to this and i was trying to get bootcamp to run and also the windows partition that runs on bootcamp through vmware fusion. ive installed and uninstalled like 12 times now in 2 days and its driving me nuts. no matter what i do i cant get it to work. maybe someone on here can give me some tips because im lost.
View 6 RepliesI can run Win7 perfectly in VMWare Fusion, but I can't Bootcamp into Win7 (my MBP will just reboot without ever getting to a Win load screen). I previously had Vista installed and could do both without any issues. I know that Apple hasn't yet released an update to Bootcamp, but I was under the impression that this had more to do with smaller items (sound, trackpad performance, temp management) than it did with outright catastrophic fail.

I am an architect and I will be mostly using my new imac to work on Autocad 2010 along with a couple of other windows based applications. I understand the concept of the three methods of using windows but I do not know which would provide the best performance whilst working on Autocad, without it becoming a laborious task to load it up everyday.
I will be rocking dual monitors so I quite like the idea of Parallels or VMWare so that I can have Windows open on one monitor and Leopard on the other. But will this have a negative effect on the performance of Autocad? Also, which of these two is the better?
I use it to run Win XP on the bootcamp partition on my BlackBook at work.ow I'm getting frequent Firewall pop ups (in OSX) asking about vmnet natd inbound connections? I can either select okay or after several windows (pop ups) have appeared, they will disappear again seconds later of themselves.I select allow each time. I've removed and re added VMWare Fusion on the list of allowed apps in the OSX Security Advanced Firewall panel.

Is there a way to set it so that when I enter XP (bootcamp partition) from VMware that instead of having to restart windows every time I can just suspend it like you can with just VMware and windows without the partition?

My MBP seems to be stuck on "VMware Fusion is preparing your Boot Camp partition to run as a virtual machine. This may take a few minutes. This will only happen once." The bars are still moving and it doesn't appear to have crashed but it's been running for over 2 hours.. is this normal or should I restart it?
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy first Bootcamp partition had a problem with installing my printer drivers, so I decided to just scrap it (i.e. I used disk utility to erase [wrote zeroes] that partition). I then used the Bootcamp assistant to create a new partition, and I installed Windows 7 again on the new partition. I have everything up and running on the new partition, and it works perfectly when I re-start in bootcamp.
However, when I try to load it in Vmware Fusion, it seems to be searching for the old partition. How can I get Vmware to boot up the new partition? Right now it says "No bootable device detected."
I have windows 7 installed in bootcamp.
I made it a VM for Fusion 3. Installed VMWare Tools.
If I wanted to transition to Parallels 5...
Would I (most likely), uninstalled VMWare Tools, reboot.
Then tells Paralells to make Bootcamp a VM.. then install the Parallels Tools.
My basic wonder, is can I do this. or will I have to fully reinstall the entire bootcamp partition to make the switch.
I erased my bootcamp partition this morning thinking that was the same as deleting the partition - how do I actually delete the partition and combine it with my MAC OS partition now? I can't do it thru bootcamp
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo I am trying to open up my bootcamp partition (running windows 7) in VMWare and I get this error message: Cannot open the disk '/Users/brandonquirarte/Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/Virtual Machines/Boot Camp/%2Fdev%2Fdisk0/Boot Camp partition.vmwarevm/Boot Camp partition.vmdk' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on. It was working just fine before the upgrade to Snow Leopard but I am not sure if that has anything to do with it. I had to reinstall Windows 7 after I tried installing the Bootcamp 3.0 drivers so that may be more of the issue. I didn't test to see if would work still when I upgraded to Snow Leopard.

I have 120GB unused HDD space atm so could i.. back up my 80GB partition to a DMG with disk utility then delete the old partition making the whole 200GB unallocated space... then use the bootcamp utility to re occupy the space then use disk utilities restore option to restore the image of the 80GB to the new 200GB partition... would this work? if not has anyone got any other methods to use with 10.6.4 SL and Win7?
Bought an OEM version to use with bootcamp. Everything works fine up to the point where it is supposed to let me format the partition that bootcamp created. The XP installation just skips right from when I select the C:yatta-yatta/bootcamp partition and starts installing. So obviously the partition is not bootable... Does anyone know if this is because the OEM version of the OS or something else. I tried to reduce the size of the partition because I read a thread about FAT32 not playing well with disc sizes greater than 32Gb. Still didn't work...
View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to try out Windows 7. During this process though I deleted my winXP partition. When I went to create a new BootCamp partition in The BootCamp SetUp Assisstant, it failed to create the partition on my harddrive.
I was greeted with the error, "BootCamp SetUp assistant failed to yada yada yada, please backup and reformat your harddrive."
So my question is do I really have to reinstall Mac OS X? (I backup with TimeMachine so it won't be a big deal but still thats a very long process.) Do you guys have any tips or anything to get Mac OS X to partition my main HDD?

I'd like to give VMWare Fusion an audition, and am wondering if I can run it off that same BC partition that Parallels uses -- or if that will create some kind of conflict that might damage the partition. I'm not talking about having Parallels and VMWare running _simultaenously_ -- only installing them both to use the same partition.

So my goal is to Boot Camp Windows 7 + Mac OS X, I have yet to upgrade the RAM on my unit so it�s still at 2GB (waiting for my work to start carrying it) and I�m also using Fusion 2.01. Now the Question x32 or x64? Which would run smoother under a Virtual Machine from within Mac. I know in Boot Camp 64 would be the obvious choice especially when I upgrade to 4GB but will Fusion pose more strain to the system emulating 64 or would it be no difference towards 32?

Now the question is, when I boot the XP via vmware, I can boot from a Win 7 DVD and the installation starts. Can I just go on an install it in this way? The thing is that I'm not at home and only have a VNC session to my mac, so I can't install it in the classic way which requires a reboot
