View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I have had my new aluminum macbook for 2 weeks now and love it except for one issue. About once or twice a minute it makes a really annoying popping sound from the right speaker. It sounds like a crackle and then a pop. It happens if volume is up or muted, headphones plugged in/no headphones, music/video playing or not. Basically it happens all the time, nothing will stop the sound.
My question is should this be something I worry about, and get replaced/fixed? This is my first macbook and love everything about it except this popping sound. I have yet to contact applecare or take it to the store as I'm a busy college student and the store is an hour or so away. Just wanted to get your guys opinions on this issue first.
I just got my first unibody MBP this summer and I love it! But the black _really_ shows the oil from my fingers. I was curious of what is the safest way to go about cleaning all this off.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI know, I know, another thread asking for advice. I've read through the forums, and I'm not really finding what I'm looking for. I'm seeing most of the sleeves on Amazon are listed as being for the other Macbook (the unibody aluminum one) I want a snug fit, and the power adapter shouldn't be factored into this decision, as I don't want a messenger bag, I will carry my Macbook in my backpack, so we're good there. Price range is under $40 USD including shipping. I was at the Apple store last week, and I looked at the Paul Frank ones, I don't need a designer case, I want one that will protect it, and that's about it.

I rely on a program called SoundOn! to stop the popping sound on my Macbook aluminium while using external speakers. But, I seem to have done something (slash OS X seems to have done something) which means that the application now opens in Script Editor rather than a standalone application. When I go to the Get Info window in Finder to change the default application I cannot simply set it as an application and get a choice between TextEdit, Automator and Script Editor. I don't want any of these. How do I go about resetting this so it will work?
Also, maybe if anyone has a Cocoa application for the same purpose of keep-alive for the sound card I'd be really greatful, as this application was made for 10.0.0-10.2.x and hasn't been updated since 2003.
The other day while using my MBP, I heard a 'pop' sound as I lifted my palm off the palmrest. I could duplicate the sound by pushing on the middle of the right palmrest. Turns out it is coming from the battery compartment door!
After it happened again, I determined it was when I had the slider door open and cool breeze was coming in. The cooler temps make metals contract and the fit wasn't so good apparently. Now I have a piece of thin cardboard sitting between the HD and the battery door to keep my sanity.
is there a guide to change the MacBook Pro 15" Mid 2009 Unibody's hard drive?
View 2 Replies View RelatedSince a couple of days I'm noticing a popping sound during audio playback through my external speakers. That means when playing back a video or music through iTunes, basically always when there's audio playing. I'm in the process of figuring out if it also happens on my regular integrated speakers.
My MBP is the recently released 15" Core i7 model. Only thing I changed is I added an Intel SSD.
Any thoughts as to what it can be? Or where to start looking for a solution?
I just purchased a Bose SoundLink Mini bluetooth speaker. It pairs up and connects fine with both my iPad Mini and Macbook Pro. The sound quality is excellent on playback from iTunes on the iPad Mini, however when I connect with the Macbook Pro....I am getting terrible popping and cracking sounds. I am using Lion 10.7.5 on the Macbook Pro. Wondering if it must be some issue with the operating system since I DON'T have the problem when I play audio from the iPad Mini.

View 3 Replies View RelatedThe rubber bottom of my MacBook (unibody, late 2009 model) is coming off. Should I take off all the screws and try to reposition it? Also, it is under the one year warranty but not under the 90 day Apple tech support. Will Best Buy fix it for me?
View 16 Replies View RelatedI have been having this issue forever and want to do something about it now. Whenever the sound is mute on my notebook, and there should be sound playing (Ex.: Startup Chime), instead I get a LOUD pop noise. I understand the whole thing with the sound chip powering down to save battery life, but that requires the speakers to be un-muted. In my case, they are mute, and never get un-muted. What do you guys think. Logic Board/Speaker System Replacement?

I've got lockups occurring on a 15" unibody mid-2009 MBP that last for 30 seconds at a time and then magically clear up. I get a beachball during this time. Happens in various apps (safari, mail, textedit, adium, firefox, etc). Activity Monitor shows DiskIO going to zero during these lockups - seems like any app that accesses (read/writes) to disk hangs during these times. I've looked at System Profiler, smartctl, hardware diagnostics, and disk utility and all say my drive is fine. Also ran xbench and the numbers look ok.
Seems other people are also having problems in the official support forums: [URL] Has anyone else seen this? Trying to figure out if this is a general issue or a few of us have bad hardware. Apple support is giving me the usual run around.
I find the 'popping' sound that is made when changing volume on the Mac via the keyboard very annoying. Is there a way to eliminate that popping sound?
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy iMac is making a sound that seems like a "pop" every few minutes. It seems like a notification, but it isn't one. It never did this in a year, but it started two weeks ago. It's really annoying. I called the Apple Support but they didn't manage to help me out.

I recently came across a Mid-2009 15" MBP with 10.6 on it. I couldn't control the audio, but I figured that when I formatted it and put 10.7.3 on, that issue would go away. Unfortunately I was very wrong. I've been investigating the issue and I've tried just about every permissions fix under the sun, and still to no avail. So far, I haven't reinstalled the OS, but I doubt that would work as it was an issue when 10.6 was running, and I did a complete reformat before reinstalling.
Startup chime works fine, and the speakers are recognized in the audio panel as well as the MIDI utility. I just have no control over the sound, and I never have. Plugging in peripherals doesn't work either, this one has really stumped me.
I've changed the root .plist files, and I've tried repairing permissions half a dozen times but still nothing has worked. I'm trying to look for a new angle on this issue, because permissions don't seem to be panning out - unless there's something big that I missed.

I have a Quad Core Mac Pro which is running Snow Leopard 10.6.4. I have 8 gigs of memory. I am using Safari 5 and the latest version of Flash Player.
This issue doesn't happen all the time but once it occurs it will keep happening until I quit Safari and then reopen it. After that it will begin happening again after a certain period of time.
It seems to occur when I have Safari open for extended periods of time and the memory pageouts increase. When I play music through the Rhapsody player, youtube or hulu and visit various sites at the same time, there's a popping or stuttering in the audio for a second or two.
The popping noise will occur when browsing a site while playing audio in Safari either through Youtube, Hulu or Rhapsody. The noise will occur when I click on a link to go to a website.
the Popping will occur when I quit Safari as well, it's sort of like a sound that shouldn't be there. It sounds almost like static electricity when you touch it.
The only thing that stops the popping is by Quitting Safari and reopening it. After that I won't hear the noise while browsing sites for a period of time. It will come back eventually though.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Flash player, repaired permissions in disk utility, rebuilt my drive with Disk Warrior, reinstalled Safari, and installed the 10.6.4 Combo update but the issue remains.
I have a Macbook 2009 that wont turn on. When you press the power key you hear the normal boot chime but no picture appears.
The laptop was given to me without any hard drive, so I installed a blank 250GB HDD. The HDD has no OS on it, and I am not sure how it is currently formatted as it is new.
Even when I use an external screen and regardless of whether a HDD is present the macbook does not show any sign of life on the screen or external screen but still chimes.
I know it would be a good idea to boot with restore discs etc, but even if no OS is present surely the screen should still come on and display the gray and apple logo? I did all the resets and holding button configurations on startup, such as reset PRAM.

I was reluctant to update my 27inch i5 iMac with the new graphics card firmware update since I wasn't having any flickering issues. I finally caved in and did it thinking that nothing bad will happen, well of course something did. Ever since I updated it yesterday my computer makes a distinct and random popping sound from the speakers, it is soft but audible in my quiet room when I am working and it is driving me crazy.

The left side is good along with the speaker.
View 2 Replies View Related2 days ago i received my new mac pro 6-core 3,33GHz...now something really weird and super annoying is going on with this computer...From time to time there is this really loud POP trough my speaker. I'm absolutely 100% sure this has nothing to do with my amp. cables or whatever and its definatly a problem with the MacPro, i know because of the following:
Plugged in new cables, removed every installed software, plugged onto different amplifier, when there are absiolutely no audio cables plugged into the computer and when i use the build in speakers of the mac pro i still hear the POP/distortian like sound, and finaly even took it at my friends house and tested the machine there on his audio instalation...problem remained! not knowing what to do next i decided to go and see a very good technician (music instruments and studio recording) and told him about the problem, he imediatly stated that it "could be" because of the harddisk drive giving like electric impulses or whatever that causes the distortion...or that the sound card or audio chip set waking up from sleep and every time it does there is this loud POP?..................
I finally put my hands on a brand new MacBook Pro 15" (base model) with Hi-Def Glossy Screen...I'm playing with it since a couple of days and I wonder if it is somehow defective...I've already passed through the following thread but I haven't found the answers I'm looking for....URL
I've also searched trough the forum, found a couple of related threads but no conclusive answers were given, so that's why I'm posting my doubts and asking for you to comment or give your personal experiences or advices...
1) Power dazzle (sorry I don't know how to better express it)
When I plug the cable to recharge the battery and the battery gets finally completely recharged, I feel a sort of low voltage through my hands when I touch the aluminum unibody... I was used to feel the same thing on the touchpad of my former pc when its logic board started to break... (that's why I'm so worried about this potential issue)Is it normal? Do you experience the same thing? Is it to notify the battery is fully charged? I don't think so: a pop-up message would be much more effective...
2) Clinging sound
When I use the MBP in a quiet room, I often hear a clinging sound from the touchpad... I suspect it is the HDD's head that moves to perform an operation... or is it something completely different? In any case, it is very annoying: when I hear it, I immediately start to search myself for any tab of a zipper that may produce it...Again, is it normal? Does your MBP is the same? Does it annoy you? Am I simply paranoid? Did you do something to effectively reduce it (SSD)?
3) Battery life
I tried to calibrate the battery properly, nevertheless I didn't experienced the advertized battery life... I think it depends on the fact I have the Hi-Def screen that is more power demanding than the default one...
Is this the effective reason? How long does your battery last? (I cannot post my value because I just discovered the option to show time besides battery icon...) Any suggestion to make the battery last longer? (I already use cable rather than wi-fi and Intel graphic card rather than Nvidia one)
4) If I move my finger tips on the bottom of the unibody enclosure, I can feel a small step between the enclosure and the cover (something less than 1/3 of a mm) in the area below the touchpad that progressively disappear toward the hinge area...
Does your cover integrate seamlessly into your unibody enclosure or not?Is it an indication of some sort of refurbished intervention or is it normal this way? How can I understand if it is a refurbished MBP or a brand new one? (It's been bought by my university, so I don't know exactly what has been ordered... there is something I have to look for to understand the case? A particular notice, booklet or something like that?)
I'm thinking of getting the Macbook 2.0 ghz model for the family room. I'm wondering about how good and loud the sound quality is from the new Macbook. Kids like to watch slingbox and when I heard the Macbook at store, it didn't sound so great or loud enough. But it could be the high ambient sound of the store.
View 5 Replies View RelatedJust noticed a problem with my 2009 Aluminum MacBook Pro. Whenever i move my MacBook Pro it makes a weird creak dull ringing sort of sound. I also hear this sound when I press on the underside or grip tightly to it.
What could this be?
Hi Folks. Minor problem with the new system...
Here's the situ:
32Gb Boot Camp partition created and installed XP SP2 from original disc.
Inserted Mac Pro DVD to install the driver set (which was Boot Camp 2.1)
Everything working correctly, except the sound - which comes out both the Mac Pro internal speaker and the LEFT channel of my external amplifier.Everything working fine through Mac OS X as expected.
In Windows, I can change the audio out device from Realtek Audio out to the USB audio (which is the Apple Cinema Display speakers) but this is far from ideal for games, which is the only reason I'm installing XP. I have installed XPSP3 since and found a more up to date Realtek HD audio driver for XP, but no change.
Has anyone experienced this? I may try to install XP again, install XPSP3, then install all the drivers manually as required to see if that changes anything.
Hello, I have a 2009 Quad and sometimes the sound works in vista and sometimes it doesn't. Does anyone know why or know of a fix?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI use a mini display port to HDMI to get the video and i use audio Y cable splitter for the audio.i can get video but not sound. If i disconnect the HDMI cable from the T.V. then i can get sound. If the HDMI cable and the audio cables are connected at the same time i can get video but no sound. I called Sony and according to them there is no setting on the T.V. that would help. My theory is that it's some kind of setting in the imac that prevents it from sending audio and video to the tv at the same time. Unfortunately i have not been able to figure it out.
