The rubber bottom of my MacBook (unibody, late 2009 model) is coming off. Should I take off all the screws and try to reposition it? Also, it is under the one year warranty but not under the 90 day Apple tech support. Will Best Buy fix it for me?

I know, I know, another thread asking for advice. I've read through the forums, and I'm not really finding what I'm looking for. I'm seeing most of the sleeves on Amazon are listed as being for the other Macbook (the unibody aluminum one) I want a snug fit, and the power adapter shouldn't be factored into this decision, as I don't want a messenger bag, I will carry my Macbook in my backpack, so we're good there. Price range is under $40 USD including shipping. I was at the Apple store last week, and I looked at the Paul Frank ones, I don't need a designer case, I want one that will protect it, and that's about it.

So I touched the top of the screen and it was burning hot. Is this normal? I really haven't heard the fan until playing SCII, so I'm not sure if my iMac has always been hot.

View 3 Replies View Relatedi am contemplating buying a late 2008 mbp air i found for $800 on CL. it has the 1.86 ghz 2gig ram and an 128 gb ssd. would that be comparable to the new 2010 version? i know the new one will edge it out, but by how much? i do a lot of art using flash, illustrator, and ps but just want to use this machine occasionally when i travel, ill have another machine for the heavy lifting if needed be. is that a good deal? or should i just wait and get the 2010 version which is double that?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am trying to decide whether to get the 2010 model or the cheaper 2009 model. These are the differences that I've found so far for the base model. For arguments sake, let's say they both have 4gb ram (most people selling them have upgraded to 4gb)
2010: 2.4ghz, longer battery, nvidia 320m
2009: 2.26ghz, (slightly) shorter battery, nvidia 9400m
Having a slightly slower cpu, less battery life (about 7 hours rather than 9) and a slightly weaker gpu don't bother me so much, as I will be mostly using the macbook pro for internet surfing and writing word documents
My question is, are there any other differences? (that would make me go for the 2010 rather than the 2009 model) - maybe differences in the display? shape? something else?
I have one of these Macbooks that I want to pass on to the daughter of a friend for use in college. To try and extend its life and usefulness a little I was wondering if I could add more memory. I'm aware that the Apple tech specs state that 2GB of PC2-5300 DDR2 is the maximum supported, but since I have 2 x 2GB of that memory spare I was wondering if anyone here on the forums know different?

The computer? What will help? I'd like to use the computer for as long as possible, though I realize I am probably overdue to replace it. It is my only computer at the moment.

I bought a MBP 15 inch 2.66ghz brand new back in september. Since my purchase i have has several things that have been annoying the crap out of me.
Issues:
1. Clunk noise coming from HD, I have read some posts and installed Hdapm which reduced the sound a bit (i have the 320gb 5400rpm Fujitsu)
2. I believe becuz of the clunking (parking of the heads) causes my computer to stutter (mini freeze for like 1-2 secs) while using my MBP..
3. The battery used notify me that i had PLENTY of time to use even when i had below 50% battery life left, now (on Firmware 1.6) the battery tells me i usually have like 2:30mins of use when im at 85% or so battery strength left. and YES the screen is dimmed along with the keys.(i have calibrated the battery also)
I went back to 1.6 firmware due to the notion that various people have had better success on their harddrives working "better" with stock, or aftermarket.
I am on a CLEAN install of Snow Leopard...
I like to DJ in my spare time and use the macbook for my software program, but using the integrated cam doesnt give a good angle at my mixers. I used the xbox live vision cam with my PC laptop, but I got rid of it and only have the macbook now. Ive tried just plugging it in and I dont know how to access it. I occasionally do live mixes on stickam where you dont get to choose which cam to use. So if I can get the xbox cam to work, how can I temporarily disable the integrated cam?

I have a late 2010 Macbook Air, 13 inch, with the 126 gb hard drive. I was curious if there was a way to upgrade the hard drive at all. I know this isn't "officially" suported, but I've seen some compines online that claim to do it.
I haven't priced out the SSD drives or anything, so I'm not even sure if it's cost effective to upgrade.

I have had my new pro since christmas, and it has been incredible. however i noticed from day one that periodically i get this buzzing noise coming from the left speaker - closest to the screen. is it the hard drive? what is it... and is it normal? sometimes if i tap the speaker area (next to the magsafe) it goes away.. and other times its pretty loud. i do NOT have applecare. should I purchase that as well.

I just received my 15" Macbook Pro ( Mid 2009, the most recent update ), and noticed right away at just how blurry the screen is.
Comparing it to other laptops around me, and my desktops monitors... the text on the Macbook's screen looks blurry compared to them all.
Now Im making it sound like it's horrible, and it's really not... I just expected it to be a lot crisper and sharper.
Does the late 2008 unibody Macbook pro have Sata II or III?I have an Apple branded 256GB SSD and It isnt booting up as fast as I think it could be. I am wondering if my logic board supports sata III because I think the SSD could be Sata II.

I am listening to the same songs on Itunes playing on a late 2008, Early 2009 Macbook Pro 15 compared to a brand new MBP 15 and the speakers (or the sound) seems much better on the older Pro still running Leopard (more base and deeper sound), as opposed to the new one running SL. Has anything changed that would account for this? Are they the same system running off of different operating systems, or has the hardware changed. And is there anything to do about it?

Ive tried to connect it to the tv with audio with two cables: a minidisplayport/hdmi cable and the audio jack/RCA cable. The video works just fine, but the audio is not working. The computer doesn't even recognize the tv as an audio output device. I found out that only macbook pro's made after late 2010 support audio through the HMDI cable so i was trying to find a cable that will support audio on my 2009 macbook pro.

Last Friday, my half charged Macbook Pro randomly turned off and was unresponsive. No sleep/power indicator light, no start up chime, nothing. The only thing that works is the battery indicator light. I have tried a PRAM reset, SMC reset, everything suggested on this website and in the manual. I'm wondering what I'm looking at replacing here, and what the cost could be.

I recently purchased my mac and I had this problem once already, but it fixed it quickly with a safe reboot. When I turn it on the chimes go and the grey screen appears with the apple logo and loading bar. The loading bar disappears before showing any progress and goes straight to the apple logo with the gray spinning wheel. I've tried doing a safe boot, along with resetting the PRAM and SMC, but nothing works.

(Yes, yes, it's not a "laptop" but a "notebook" but I still like being able to use it that way).
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a late 2006 macbook and had the issue with the cracking case repaired today, however, Apple only repaired half of the issue. The 'top' half of the case was fixed (new keyboard, trackpad etc) was replaced and I am more than happy with it. The bottom half of the case (section with USB ports, bottom of the MacBook etc) still has cracks in it and clearly hasn't been replaced. Is this something that should be replaced as a manufacturing fault as they have done with the keyboard, palm rest, trackpad etc?
