I spilled a small amount of liquid on the key board, but I quickly dried it and everything works fine except the keyboard. Some keys are brighter than others, what should I do?

Yesterday at around 3 PM i spilled a small amount of slightly sweetened coffee onto the upper left corner of my new 15 " Macbook Pro. The coffee barely got onto the keys and the speaker, but pretty much drenched all of the ports on the left side. The notebook immediately turned off, and in panic mode i tried switching it back on to see if any serious damage had been done. The notebook turned on, but the screen was blank. While i was wiping off the excess on the outer case, i realized this was a dumb move to make (because it probably shorted something) so i turned it off after a minute or so. I took it home and unscrewed the back case, there was very little coffee on what i think is the upper right hand side (when overturned) of the logic board, so i soaked it up as best i could, blew on it for around an hour, and set it on its side with a pretty hot lamp shining on it overnight. I put it back together this morning more than half expecting for it to just not work, but to my surprise it seems to be working fine. No keys are sticking, the battery is charging well, and on the internet with it right now.
The problem is that there was a what looked to be a little bit of a singe on one of the black rectangular transistor prongs. The melted metal easily blew away and most of the prongs are still attached. also, i haven't taken out the logic board to see what kind of damage (if any) has been done to the hidden side (not the side that shows when you take off the back case). I'm planning on doing this as soon as i can get a torx driver. I guess what I want to know is if i should take my chances with bringing it in to the apple store to see what the real damage is even though it still works, or if i should just hold out and use it till it breaks.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI was recently using my backlit keyboard of pretty much the first time and I realized that middle right side of the keyboard is slightly dimmer that the other side. I can still see the keys and its not a huge difference but its enough to be noticeable and somewhat distracting.
View 13 Replies View RelatedLast night (laptop was unplugged, off but with battery in) I accidently dropped a small amount of water eg like a cap amount on the keyboard/mouse area.I wiped it off & thought nothing if it as it was a small amount.Woke up this morning, tried to switch it on but nothing. I put in the charger cable but still nothing, then I could smell some burning so quickly disconnected charger & battery.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just spillt my coffee on my macbook keyboard. The spill was localized to my keyboard, fortunately, and no other components were affectes, which is great. All my letters and numbers are 100% there. Some of my punctuation is a bit off - my apostrophes become semicolons, for example, I don:t know what to do. I:ve also got a bunch of other odd problems going on but only when holding down shift. I removed my ram and reinstalled it as part of my clean. Because a lot of my punctuation issues only occur with modifier keys, I think I might have broken something during the deep clean )I was messing with RAM, etc...0 but I:m not to experiences with hardware repair.
What should i do??? Do you think it really is software and updating my keyboard firmware will do good? should I go to iFixIt and pick up a new keyboard? given a guide, I could do the repair myself if it comes to it.My backup plan is to do a full heart transplant - pull the HD and put it in another computer. I love my alumium macbook though, and I hope it doesn:t come to that.
I'm somewhat new to the forums, and found a really good deal for a brand new macbook air (rev.1). I'd like to know if it is possible to replace the logic board in my macbook air with a newer, nvidia-gfx based logic board. As in, will it fit, does the same power supply run it, same peripherals (airport, keyboard, etc) work/interface with it, etc?

I've noticed the display on my MBA is much brighter when I am running in Windows XP SP3 bootcamp. Big difference with OS X. Did anyone notice the same? Why could this be? I've tried checking settings, calibration and performance seem to be right.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm quite impressed with the colors, deep blacks and vibrancy of my new 13 inch MBP. Overall, it seems like a much needed improvement over the unibody MacBooks of last fall (I had one, but sold due to crappy screen).
Since using my new MBP, I've noticed that the screen doesn't seem as bright as other Mac laptops I've used.
Today I cranked the brightness up on both my iPhone 3G and MBP and put the two side by side. I really noticed how dim the MBP seemed compared to my iPhone 3G.
Is this normal? Anyone else out there that could confirm my test? My MBP has a 9CBD screen and auto-brightness adjust is off.
I know it's ancient tech... but I've reverted to a 12" PB after selling my uni MacBook. I've owned two of these 12" PB 1.5ghz previously, both bought new (combo+60gb hd/superdrive +80gb) and the latter one cost me some bad business deal points because I was in a meeting outside in the sunlight and I could not read the screen. I sold it with Applecare to someone on MR last year. The one I bought is used, obviously, and the screen is "fine" no dead pixels or cracks or anything, it just will only be workable inside. Does anyone have any tips on the brightest or best screen replacement I can get for this? This one has a build date of August 2005 so it's been around, though in great condition. A bit "dim" and it might be worth it if I could get a new screen that is somewhat brighter.

I just did a clean install of Snow Leopard on my MacBook Pro 2.26. My screen is much much brighter now than it was. On battery I am running it on one click above dark. On AC power on less than half what I had it set to before for the same brightness. Really an unusual outcome I would say.

The problem with me is that the computer has never had any contact with liquids, especially in the area where the motherboard is. Can anyone show me where the corrosion is on this?

I have a 13" MBP. I just realised that when I use my macbook in the dark the keyboard light is brighter on the left side compared to the right side. When I look at my keyboard any key on the left side of the 5, T, G and B keys are brighter than those on the left. It is more evident when I have my moshi clearguard on.

The twist is that she did not shut her mbp off and carried it over open in a downpour. Needless to say it was absolutely drenched. Fortunately the computer suffered no side affects. I personally have spilled a drink on mine (I proceeded to turn it off and remove the battery) but I suffered no side affects. So out of curiosity, do MBs/MBPs have sealed keyboards to prevent against liquid damage?

About 3 days ago I got the impression it kinda felt a bit sticky. Having a baby brother I'm fearing the worst. The performance of my MBP hasn't changed at all, however having only 4 months left allowed to purchase and extend AppleCare I wouldn't want to buy it for no reason. That and I always like to rest assured my Mac is in pristine condition.

You spray the solution on the shield and then squeegee it around with some force, is it possible to get liquid inside the case via this boundary? Even something like a spray lcd cleaner or a damp cloth? How well sealed is the transition between the aluminum and the plastic of the logo?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI spilled about a tablespoon of windex onto the keyboard of my 1.66 i7 MBP. Of course it was on when it happened. I turned it off and flipped it over for a few hours. I was getting ready to go out of town when it happened so I had to close it up and take it on a plain with me. When i got to my destination the next day I tried to start it up and it was dead. I have since read all of the I should have done, but didn't.
I was looking to get an idea of the different cost scenarios to get it fixed. Like if it needs a new logic board, etc... I understand it might be better to get a new computer but I don't have 2800 for another 17'' MBP.

Being the poor college kid that I am, and knowing a bit about hardware repair, I've been buying macbooks on craigslist, etc. and reselling them. I just got a Polycarbonate Macbook that had liquid spilled on (she said it was iced tea). It wouldn't turn on so I checked out the logic board and I cleaned it with alcohol although it seemed clean. I noticed during this that the LED on the power adapter was green, though very dim. When I unhooked the cable connecting the upper case, it turned bright green. Basically what I'm wondering and now that I think about it its probably a stupid question, since I have no way of testing this until I buy a new upper case is do you think it's worth it to try and fix or should I sell it?

Apple wanted $800 flat to "begin" to fix it. If the logic board had one drop of liquid on it, it'd jump to $1240. Sent it to MacService.com, and got the screen replaced and the whole computer diagnosed - with shipping included - for $325. Arrived today. Looks PERFECT. Kudos to that company. I'm really impressed.

Last night i spilled 7up on my Macbook White. I wiped it off and let it dry during the night.
I started it this morning and it booted nice and all keys were working (i think). The problem is that when i type in my password which i know is perfectly correct, it wont log me in. All of the keys are pressable and will leave a dot or * in the passwordbox, but it just wont let me in. The Enter-button leaves a dot aswell i dont think it should but anyways...Dont know what to do! Since i only see dots im not sure if some keys have swapped place or something but arrghhh i dont know what to do?
I dont have a Mac-disc and i have tried the Single User-option but when i try to type the commands there nothing shows up?
