MacBook Pro :: Slim Case With A Shoulder Strap
Jun 27, 2010
I recently purchased a 17" MBP and need a case for it. I want more protection than a neoprene sleeve, but don't need a full-fledged work bag (I already have one). I really like the style and protection of the Booq Vyper XL2, but it has no shoulder strap. I am really afraid I would end up dropping it, as I usually have my hands full on the way to/from work.

I have to confess: I have too many messenger bags. I do not know why everything must turn into a collection; DVDs... books... glasses and sunglasses do not count as I just keep breaking them so can do with a few spare ,... now messenger bagsAluminium 13" Macbook owner. For that I currently own theKnomo Stirling Messenger : Product Page | Youtube ReviewWrappers Cordura Sleeve : Product Page | My Photoshe Stirling is mostly great. You can see the YouTube review which covers most of the good points (and bad), but not mentioned on there is that not only is it slim + upright, but also designed to hug your body - all of which is great for keeping it discreet and lower profile than a standard messenger bag.
But on some days I just do not want to carry all that much. I do not feel the Wrappers alone is sufficient, so off to the Apple store I went for a slim fitting sleeve bag with a shoulder strap. An iPod case was not all I purchased...

I just installed a 160gb Gen2 Intel in my 15" macbook pro, and its flooring me with its speed. Amazing upgrade. All editors, designers, etc... should do this upgrade.
Optibay Alternative ----
Now I want to put another SSD in there for Raid0 or just the stock 500gb for now.. for storage.. but the cost of the Optibay is pretty high. I saw a link to an alternative, called USCaddy or something, I forgot. Can someone link that one in, and comment if its ok?
Slim Superdrive Enclosure -----
And what are people putting their old superdrives in? I want something slim lined, USB bus powered.. etc... Any comments on one that works really well and looks cool

I was wanting to know how hard it is to change top and bottom case and keyboard area? I would like to know that if anything was to happen to my soon to have macbook I could change it. Also this on the older macbooks. And if I have Apple to change it how much would it cost? And yes I know that they should replace keyboard case area for free because of the defunct cracking issue.

I know theres a bunch of bag threads, but thouht I'd share another: [URL] At first I was only looking at just the "laptop space" specs for the Jacket Extra Small bag and it reads 7.6 x 11.8 x 1 in. If you compare that with the MBA specs, that would be an extremely tight fit, since the MBA is already at 11.8 in width.
I was going to email them until i just read the last bit on the product information: "Designed for most 11" netbooks and perfect fit for the 11" MacBook Air". I was so focused on specs that I missed this simple line of information. But anyway, for strictly MBA 11.6" users wanting something uber minimal, this seems like a pretty nice choice to add to the growing list of MBA 11" bags alongside sfbags.

I'm thinking of getting the new 13-inch MacBook Pro soon, but I'm wondering about cases and bags. I was looking around (not hard, and only online thus far), but I haven't stumbled upon and sleeves with handles. The Incase Sleeve Plus is still too big and bulky (strictly speaking, I mean appearance, not actual size and weight; one without a flap going over it, just a zipper).

I have a 15" MacBook Pro 2.5GHz (Penryn) model. I pulled a super drive from a 17" (A1229) MBP but it's the larger version. Never the less, it still kinda fits in my 15" MBP.

Currently i own an xbox 360 Slim 4G model. I also own a copy of a game that needs about 16g of memoery so i cant store it on the xbox. Wondering if its possible to connect my xbox to my macbook pro and store the game on the computers hd and have the xbox 360 recognize it and still function through my xbox and tv. In essence as an external drive while still having full function.

I couldn't find whether or not it would fit. Ultraslim cases are harder to come by and more expensive than slim ones but my SD is an ultraslim. Then would a 12.7mm slot loading bezel fit on the whole thing?

I have about 50 *.mp3's on my hard drive that have the file names in all upper case. When looking at them in itunes it drives me nuts....Is there a way to convert the uppercase file name to lowercase? I have googled but can't find anything. I do not want to do it manually, that would take a long time =( thanks, I'm crossing my fingers

I have just purchased a Toshiba Stor.E Slim hard drive, which I do not require for Time Machine back ups. Should I use the Tuxera NTFS driver, or should I format the hard drive for Mac? Is any benefit over formatting vs using the driver? I pretty much use Macs all the time, but there may be rare occasions when it would be useful to hook up to a PC.

Does anyone know if the PB 15.4 Aluminum case is exchangeable with the Macbook Pro 15.4 case? I have a 1.6Ghz Powerbook which has a few dents in the front but I don't see any of these cases for sale on Ebay, but I do see Macbook Pro cases. It's really a nasty cosmetic issue I'd like to resolve and then sell it.

I am working on restoring a Time Machine backup from Leopard to a clean installation of Snow Leopard. The only problem I'm facing is that the Leopard backup is on a case-sensitive drive (and the Snow Leopard drive is set up, by default, as case-ignorant).
I have scoured the Web the last two days and have not found a definitive answer to my question: Is there a way to transfer the data from the Time Machine backup on the case-sensitive drive to the case-ignorant Snow Leopard drive?
Yesterday I ran across a tutorial explaining how this might be accomplished using SuperDuper! but a commenter explained that Disk Utility could be used and was much easier.
I tried the Disk Utility method but it didn't work, and I ran out of time to give the SuperDuper! option a try. Does anyone know if it, or even Carbon Copy Cloner, might solve my problem?

Or does someone know of the link to see his server, or one like it?

I am using a Kensington Slim Blade mouse with my MacBook and recently the track ball has stopped working (in any application). I tested the batteries and they are ok. The left and right buttons work ok, just not the track ball (it is similar to the one on the Mighty Mouse). I recently upgraded to 10.5.8, but it started just before that.

I'm having issues getting my new XBOX 360 Slim to connect to my dual-band Airport Extreme when using wireless n. I can get it to connect with n but my connection speed on the 360 drops to 1 or 2 mbps, even though the signal remains strong. I can see the speed drop of the 360 using Airport Utility on my laptop. All other devices on the network are fine. When I switch the 2.4 GHz band on the AE to b/g only, then the connection speed on the 360 shoots up to 54 mbps. That of course neuters the rest of my wireless n devices to g speed since most connect to the 2.4 GHz band due to the limited distance of the 5 GHz band.
Short of finding a solution, my next step is to try a different router brand. I'd rather stick with Apple, but have had more issues with 2 AE models than all of my other Apple hardware combined.

Soon i will be getting a Mac(i think) and was wondering about a case. Since i want a Macbook Pro with the Unibody Housing i want it to be safe. Now i can't decide if i want a case or a Sleeve. Now the Case might have heat issues even with the vents that are on the case. The sleeve won't have that issue but will it be more prone to scratching the Macbook it self? Or should i go no case and just sorta deal with the scratches. There is a Price difference between the Sleeve and the Case. About $20 Cdn more for the Case.
