MacBook Pro :: Negative Side-effect Of Non-removable Batteries?
Jun 19, 2012As you can see from the info at the bottom of the post, I own the 2008 model. Now, with my hardware slowly becoming obsolete and the wear starting to show its effects, I would have to get a new laptop in the near future. However, as I discovered, all new models have batteries that cannot be removed. After 2 years of service my battery swelled and had to be replaced. That's 2 years. With a new battery, my laptop's life has been prolonged.Â
How long will a new laptop last? Will I really have to buy a brand new expensive computer every two years just because of a design flaw?Â

PowerPC :: G4 17" - Negative Effect Display
Sep 12, 2010it is almost like a negative effect, but not the actual negative effect that you can do by pressing "ctl+alt+com+8". The other odd thing is that is has seemed to get a little better in the past day or two on its own. I have attached a picture (the problem is best seen in the upper left portion of the display although this problem does cover the entire screen). Does anyone know if this is a fixable problem?

Nov 5, 2009Where do you sit on the whole Genie Effect vs Scale Effect war that's been raging for the last 8 years? Whilst the Genie wowed me the first time I saw it, I chose Scale Effect pretty much as soon as I got OSX, preferring performance over prettiness. Now, years later, when I occasionally catch it on other peeps machines I think it just looks... tacky. I wonder how many people on here still have it switched on?

Jun 24, 2012i have already under firefox preference/advanced checked and ok the Firefox being the default browser many times. My objective is to make sure that whenever i restart or boot up the Mac, the Firefox icon would appear automatically on the desktop side bar to enable one to simple click on it to launch the Mozilla browser. Right now every time i restart the Mac i don't see the firefox icon on the side bar and has therefore to go into the HD to find the download and start the application firefox again.

May 16, 2012Time Machine told me I had to erase the files on my external hard drive and I had to put them in trash, so, I did and it is deleting 55,000 files (Old Time Machine backup) and now it's going into negative numbers? Is there another way I can delete the back up?

May 9, 2012I have a MacBook and the display is much different and an option that i cannot find on the settings. The display on my screen has a negative view to it. As if you were looking at a picture film. I have all the current updates on it, the hard drive is only months old. I don't know what is wrong with it, if a setting what changed that I can't find or if my computer is messing up?

Jun 28, 2012suddenly my screen color changed to negative/black on white. but when i inverted the screen did not back to normal quality. the trace or shadows remains when i move the window. when i log out it turns again to negative form. and when i log in it seems back to normal. but it does not have the same quality and sharpness.Â

Jun 22, 2012My room mate turns on his computer and the screen is fine. After about 15 miuntes the screen image basically goes negative for a minute or so. After that little pixels begin to rain down until the entire screen is pixelated.  When it is pixelated I can use an external monitor to view my desktop perfectly, which eliminates the graphics card as the issue in my opinion. Â

Oct 1, 2009I've been considering buying a MBP for a while now but have ultimately decided to wait until the next refresh, which i presume will be in time for christmas or very early 2010?Reason being I was bought a 24" iMac for my birthday in August and am obviously about to be slightly stung by the updated version of the all in one being released a mere 2 months or so later, so decided to wait till the next MBP update before buying my first notebook to maximize its longevity (hopefully).My question though is, as MBP and iMac specs are currently relatively similar and both are considered the slightly more high end "everyday consumer option" (low end being MacBook and Mac Mini)...Could the spec of the updated iMac be all but the same as the new MBP when they are released? i know we as consumers can never "know" but it could be logical to assume if iMac's get quad core and blu-ray then MBP could be in for similar treatment.

MacBook Pro :: PRAM Reset Not Having Any Effect
Sep 7, 2014I have inadvertently left my 2011 MBP running with a processor intensive music app running. The battery ran out before i realised.. When i attached the power lead to charge it, the computer automatically restarted without even pressing the power button. The computer had not entered safe sleep mode, presumably because my music software was still running.Â
Since then the computer will not ever enter safe sleep when the power runs down. The battery just cuts out each time when it drops to less than 5%, it does not run out at 0% like it usually does. if it is the logic board battery because i have had this issue a couple of times before but it rectified itself after a few days. I have checked that safe sleep is enabled which it is, but the computer just cuts out before safe sleep kicks in.

Oct 5, 2009for only one user on the system, the colour scheme has gone negative. Backgrounds, files, programs, etc. have all been affected. I can't find anywhere that would have this effect - it's not in system preferences or anything like. How can I fix this?

Jun 23, 2008It seems that in his nasty habit of taking naps while resting a body part on the keyboard, he has managed to press some obscure key combination that has inverted the colors on my screen (like a color photograph negative). I've searched everywhere to try to revert this, but had no luck so far. When I restart, and/or log out and back in again, the screen is normal during the booting sequence till I choose the account I want to log in with, then it immediatly goes into "x-ray" mode. If I choose another account, it will boot and log in with no screen problem whatsoever. So this must be either a preference option has been changed via keyboard command or the account is corrupted. Right?

Nov 15, 2010Has anyone noticed that with a keyboard skin, the sound is much worse (muted, no treble) on the MBA? Is this common to all Macs or is it only on the MBA? Is the keyboard the, y'know, vent or something for the speakers?
I have a 13" MBA, and a Moshi clearguard skin.. I'm a first time Mac switcher so I didn't know if this was common. I do 900miles of research before every purchase, even been lurking around this forum for ages now, but I never read about anything like this - only that keyboard skins may or may not make it run warmer.
