MacBook Pro :: Manual Wifi Band Selection Between 2.4ghz And 5ghz

Feb 21, 2012

if there is anyway to lock the wifi card of my macbook to only use (a) 5.2ghz ?

At my work place we have a lot of repeaters and some are on 5ghz and some on 2.4ghz, On my pc I can manage the driver settings to only run on 5ghz and the result is a much faster connection with better perfomance than my macbook air.

MacBook Pro :: WiFi Connection - Cannot Connect To 5GHz On Dual Band Bt Home Hub

Dec 1, 2014

I have a macBook pro, running Yosemite, and cannot connect to 5GHz on my dual band bt home hub.  Keeps saying 'invalid password' even though it is correct.  I have given the 2GHz and 5GHz separate names and passwords and can now connect to 2GHz without dropping al the time, but am frustrated re 5GHZ.  Even when stood next to the router it will not connect or recognise password.

IMac :: Connecting Via 5Ghz Dual Band Between 27" And Linksys WRT400N Router?

Mar 11, 2010

I installed a WRT400N router via my PC several months back and used an adapter to utilize the Dual Band, Wireless N network. The product worked very well on my PC.

I recently bought a 27" iMac. It easily connected to the 2.4 Ghz Wireless N network. Performance and reliability are both good. However, I cannot see the 5Ghz network listed as an available network. Video streaming is not as good without the 5Ghz network.

Supposedly the 27" iMac (with built in wireless N) can achieve the Dual Band connectivity with Airport Extreme...but I do not want to spend money to replace a perfectly good router.

MacBook Air :: 2012 11" Slow On 5Ghz Airport Extreme Wifi Network?

Jun 29, 2012

I'm encountering an issue with a new Macbook Air and would grateful for any insights. I have an Airport Extreme (latest model, 5th gen, A1408) based network (all updates applied). I have a new 2012 MacBook Air (11") that I noticed was suffering from VERY slow wifi speeds. After looking into it, I realized that if I used the configuration utility to separately name the 5GHz network and connect to wifi on the 2.4 Ghz network, the speed radically improved.

To illustrate, using speedtest.net, I saw download speeds of 35-38 Mb/s using the 2.4 Ghz network. This drops to 2-3 Mb/s when using the 5 Ghz network. The Macbook Air is showing an RSSI value of -56 when connected via 5 GHz and -51 when connected via 2.4 Ghz.

Other deivces in the home have normal connection speeds on the 5 GHz network, as does a previous generation, 2011 MacBook Air.A friend's also new, 2012  11" MacBook Air exhibits the same symptoms, so the issue is not specific to my unit.

MacBook Pro :: Dual Band Wifi - Connect To Belkin Double N + Router?

May 11, 2010

So I'm trying to connect my MBP to my new Belkin Double N+ (F6D6230uk4) router. I have 2.4 ghz set to b/g and 5 ghz set to n and 20/40hz bandwidth. Last night, when I connected to the router for the first time, I was showing 300mbps, when you Options+click the Airport icon. However, now I'm only showing 145mbps. To be fair, I may have changed a few settings between now and then, but I have no idea how I was able to get 300mbps before. It's as though it's only connecting to one channel, instead of two, which is required for 300mpbs I think?

PowerPC :: IBook Wifi Access Point Selection?

Jan 21, 2007

Recently my dad inherited an iBook G4. The Airport works, but it seems to accept the signal broadcast from only one of the two wireless access points in the house. The two routers are being used to extend the coverage, i.e. iStumbler and Airport Radar show two entries, both with the same ID.

My Macbook is fine; I can move from one end of the house to the other and signal remains high. The iBook's signal gets weaker as it moves from the router on that side of the house. Is this a hardware issue (specifcally, the iBook's Airport), or is there a way to specify which access point to use?

Hardware :: Set Up Dual Band Wifi - Via Engadget

May 1, 2009

[URL:...] over on engadget today was this article, setting up a dual band (for those that havent yet bought apples new extreme). I have a question about doing this. Here is my set up.

1 mac mini - ethernet to router
1 printer, attached to mini, sharing on network
2 laptops using wireless n - main computers
1 laptop using b/g
2 iphones using b/g
1 express b/g to stereo
$10000000 to S. Jobs.

will doing this dual band set up essentially mean i have two independent networks? I would like to have my printer, mini, and wireless music appear on all set ups.

Hardware :: Dual Band Wifi With BT HomeHub And TC

Oct 16, 2009

I have just got hold of an BT HomeHub2 and already have a single band Time Capsule. Having read a few posts it looks as though it's possible to use the HomeHub for my g devices and the TC's n network for my Macs. After hours of playing around I've achieved the following: BT HomeHub set up as one network and able to take g and n clients TC set up as a secondary network but limited to n clients.

My TC is connected to the HH via Ethernet and in Bridge Mode When on the N network the iMac has the same router IP as the iPhone which is forced on the HH network I was hoping that g clients on the HH Network would, via the Ethernet bridge, be able to connect to the clients on the TC n only network. However, with my current set up this isn't happening. My Airport Express which I use for AirTunes is an old g type and my iPhones are obviously g. As a result if my Mac and Mac Mini are on the TC N network then they iTunes can't connect with the Express and apps on my iPhone that connect across wi-fi to the Mini can't do so. Apart from getting a dual band TC is there any way I can get what I want (my Express and iPhones not pulling down the n network to G standards)? I guess I could bite the bullet and get an n AX, leaving just the iPhones dragging things down when they're in use. The reason for me wanting to do this was because AirTunes often cuts out (desired solution wouldn't solve this but TC backups are probably causing heavy network traffic when I'm streaming music), I get a poor wi-fi signal in the garden and iTunes Library sharing between iMac and Mini is unreliable.

Hardware :: Dual Band - Wifi Jacked Up And Backups Keep Dropping

Apr 28, 2009

I upgraded my Time Capsule and two AEBS. BIG MISTAKE. Since upgrading, my wifi has been jacked up (Needing reset randomly) & wireless time machine backups keep dropping in error. I have the TC as the main and the AEBS are in bridge mode. I have heard of people downgrading their firmware with success, but the dual band software seems to have this problem across the board.

Hardware :: DIY Dual Band WIFI With AEBS And Netgear WR814v1

May 29, 2009

Having come across this article the other day[URL], I decided to blow the dust off of my ancient, Netgear WR814v1 wireless router in an effort to optimize my home network. My primary router, an older AEBS (802.11n), had been using a ratio mode of 802.11n (b/g compatible) @ 2.4GHz, so that I could connect some not-so-new devices such as my iPhone3G and my Wii.

If i can configure this Netgear monstrosity to my current network and have it broadcast at 2.4GHz, I'd be free to bump my AEBS up to 5GHz and enjoy significantly faster speeds overall. The only thing connected at 5GHz would be this - my shiny, new 15" MBP 2.66. The Netgear unit would be set in bridge mode (or its ancient equivalent), and would handle the lesser capable gadgets, including the iPhone, which would still be able to be used as an itunes remote and all that other lovely stuff.

MacBook Pro :: Tell If It Supports 802.11n 5GHz?

Mar 1, 2012

As I wait for my Apple Extreme Base Station, I was wondering if it would make sense to create two different SSID networks. One Mixed b/g for 2.4GHz devices and another one solely for 5GHz. I know my ATV2 supports 802.11n in 5GHz. As I go down my list of devices in my house, I can't tell if my MacBook Pros support the 5GHz. Both MacBook Pros are Mid 2010 models.

The reason for creating two different networks is that the AEBS downgrades your network based on the lowest device (i.e. b/g would be forced on a n device if such device connects to your network).

MacBook Pro :: Where To Find The Manual For Mac OS

May 8, 2012

ver. 10.7.3: 2.4 GHz core 2 Duo with 4 GB of DRAM. I have three questions: 1. Where can I find the manual for my machine i.e. hardware manual and or consumer/connaisseur manual? 2. Does it have a zip media drive? I'm looking at the left side of the machine and I see small square shaped slot for a disk of this sort. I know this is a common type of media storage for cameras and would like to confirm that it is zip. 3. And while i'm at it, could you remind me of the uses of the two ports advancing towards the back of the computer next to the USB inputs.

No games or 3D stuff necessary..66 make a justifiable difference over the 2.4? I'm planning on getting 8gb with the 2.4, doing the 7200rpm upgrade and getting a HR screen on whichever one I choose, but just wanna make sure my going with a cheaper processor and more RAM isn't shooting myself in the foot down the road more than getting a slightly faster proc with less RAM.

ExpressCard/34 slot
Built-in 8-hour battery
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M + 9600M GT with 512MB
Illuminated keyboard
$1799

Which would be the better choice? Is the price difference justifiable?

I am a photographer so I do a lot of tethered shooting through capture one and a lot of photo editing in Photoshop. I have an eizo 24" external display I can hook up to but I feel the 17" with its high resolution and anti glare would be useful for location shoots so my question: Is the higher price and old technology worth it for the bigger antiglare screen and bigger harddrive for what I am using it for?
