Aug 12, 2006For some odd reason, I have been experiencing some creaking when I move the display of my Unibody 15.5" Macbook Pro. At all. It just is very annoying, as it has a distinct plastiky sound to it, and it was not there to begin with. I don't know if this matters, but I have a Speck clear case that I used, but then I took it off because it seemed to be twisting the display a bit. Is this creaking a known issue with the Unibodies, or is it just because of the Speck case? I have never dropped my computer, and it has never been mistreated. It just leads its life on my desk or in my laptop bag. Any ideas?

Dec 12, 2009Every once in a while my Mac Mini will start to chirp/squeak. It almost sounds like crickets. It started doing it again about 5-10 minutes ago and just stopped as I began typing this post. Does that sound like it could be the fan making the noise or the hard drive? I would think that if it were the drive I would here it MUCH more often.

MacBook Pro :: Trackpad Making Squeaking Sound / Sound Comes When I Depress Trackpad
Jan 13, 2009Every time I depress my trackpad (the one built into my MBP 15" mid 2009) It is doing a slight squeak...Now I'm meticulous about how well I keep my beloved MBP... but I do use it everyday for many things (Including design, word processing, accounts, pwning the microsoft network at my office)
But I am guessing that these things are built to last... and shouldn't have an effect on how much I have used it right... Should I take it to Apple and let them have a look at it is there a quick thing that I can do to mend it? Or should I just get over it and accept it as quirk of it's character?

May 29, 2009Whenever an application uses the internet, such as Opera, Safari or aMSNn the speakers create a static, crackling sound thats incredibly annoying. The only way to get rid of it is to shut down the app that makes it (usually aMSN or Safari) but it may start again soon. It must be an issue wtih the speakers as it doesn't have any effect on headphones.

Nov 12, 2009For the past few days my MBP has been slow. Ridiculously slow. Beachballing to open safari etc. I have just noticed that as it tries to load things it makes a weird sound. A short burring sounds followed by a long one then a short one. Don't know if that is relevant. Earlier today it froze so i had to do a hard shutdown (hold down the power button) and then it wouldn't boot. I ended up booting it off the snow leopard disc. This problem seemed to start when i started playing wow again but i had it installed for a long time. Could this be heat related?

It was a light clicking sound, and it happened on and off. However, it was bothering me so I went to best buy (where I bought my macbook) and told them about it; they said they couldn't do anything for me because it probably wasn't my hard drive. They told me to wait until my computer slows down and then bring it in. But today the sound got worse, it sounds like white noise from the tv or some static from a really bad connection.It usually happens when I turn it on and while I'm using it. Some of my friends think it's over-heating but I doubt that's the case?

MacBook Pro :: Hard Disc Drive Making Crunching Sound After Partitioning?
Mar 2, 2009So I just partitioned my drive to install Windows and noticed that my hard drive is now making that "crunching" sound that some hard drives make. It started during my Windows installation, and it happens regularly in Windows.
I also briefly hear it while OSX is starting up, but it doesn't seem to happen much in OSX. I've launched a bunch of applications and it is still pretty much silent.
Any ideas what could cause this? Could it be NTFS? I have several hard drives in my PC that don't make that sound. I am using a 17" MacBook Pro unibody with the regular 320gb 5400rpm drive that it comes with.

Dec 13, 2009I just bought the macbook 13" (white casing) today and the first thing I noticed when I turned it on was the fan, it was extremely loud!! I let it run for awhile and it was still constantly loud. Then I tried rebooting twice and still the same problem. My room is only around mid 60F. Is there some function I'm supposed to turn off? Or did I get a lemon macbook?

Apr 4, 2012I've had my 2011 13" MacBook Pro for just under a year.I've used about 70 GB / 320 on the HD, and I don't use any memory hogging software or games.Basically, I use my laptop to browse the web and do work-related assignements.About a week ago I was watching a video on YouTube and my MacBook froze up.The 'beach ball of death' started spinning, and there was a chirping / squeaking noise coming from the right side of the keyboard it sounded like the optic disc drive was trying to read something, but there was no disc in the drive and all I was doing was watching YouTube.The computer was completley frozen and, disturbed by the noise, I opted for a manual restart.All was fine after the restart, but tonight the same thing happened again!

Aug 16, 2010I have a Blu-ray file (one I own and wanted on hdd for easy transport) on my computer. I want it to play on my Xbox 360 and it won't because it has 5.1 surround sound. Inside the file is the 2.0 audio track separate with instructions on how to merge/change it using a program called Yamb. The only problem is that it's Windows only. Do any of you know a program (preferably free) that can do this for Mac?
I have Toast Titanium 10 and toyed with it for awhile but couldn't figure it out.

Jun 10, 2012I've bought my iMac in December 2011 and everything was functionating just fine untill 1 month ago. My iMac started to make clicking sounds for around 5-10 seconds, the interval between these sounds is usually half an hour to one hour. I personally think that it comes from the right side (the one with the CD/DVD entrance). I'd like to know what it causing this, how I can get this fixed and if it could be harmful to my iMac. I'll contact some premium resellers tomorrow and ask if they know what I can do about it.
