My MB Pro has 1 user login, it's never been changed, re-created, etc.I can login to the laptop no problem, I can goto the User control panel and change the PW and it shows the single user as the admin. However I can't install software. It comes up and asks me for the password which is then rejected.Beyond reloading the OS not sure what options are. Did a permissions repair but no other luck.

Don't tell me to use a disk I got with my computer, that would be for a Macbook Pro, not a Macbook, which is what I have. Please tell me if you can find a link to a firmware password program for Mac OSX 10.6.8, or if you have another way of installing a firmware password.

I forgot my administrator password and i know I have to change it by using the mac install disc but I am afraid of loosing all my settings and all my files. Resetting the password causes any lose of files or documents?

On my MBP, I get prompted for a PW before any program gets installed.
On my iMac, at times I get prompted, other times I don't.
I just downloaded handbrake and installed but there was no PW prompt.
The day before I installed a plug in for Quicktime and was prompted for a PW.
How can I get so that I get prompted for a PW every time before anything gets installed?
I was speaking with a friend and he asked me about resetting his mac without the install disk and I told him well you can despite what other people tell you the only major downside is that you'll lose all keychain passwords, but if you've really forgotten your password, it's better than nothing. So I decided I would write a post telling you the simple way to reset your password without the install disk. Trust me this does work! It may take you a few times until you get it right. [URL]
Hold Apple+S when booting to enter single user mode (type every thing exactly the way you see it below in single user mode)
sh/etc/tc
passwd yourusername
reboot
sh/etc/tc
passwd yourusername
Reboot
/sbin/fsck-y
shin /mount-uaw/
rm /VAR/db/.applesetupdone

I don't remember my admin password and I do not have the install CD, is there a way to reset it?

The computer asked me to log in. This is odd, because he has the computer set to automatically log in. Anyway, I input his username and the new password. The computer rejected the new password, which I am absolutely sure was spelled and typed correctly. I tried entering the password using both his short name and long name. Neither worked.
View 3 Replies View RelatedFirst timer here. I bought a used G4 MDD 1.25 dual FW800 recently. Was pre-loaded with 10.5.6. I thought that I would add a hard drive. After attempting to format, it rebooted to a gray screen with a MacMonitor icon. If I hit "option", I can get it to progress to a blue screen w/ padlock asking for a password. I only remember setting a user password. I believe this is asking for an admin password.
So, I thought that I'd get the 10.5.6 Install disk to reset the password. I can't seem to boot from the Install disk! I've tried holding down the "c" key at startup, (also the "option" key). No avail.
I have a G4 Powerbook that I bought 2005. After it slowed down, I decided to perform a complete install. I backed up all my data on an external harddrive , reinstalled and it worked fine for a week. (My data is not on the external hard drive anymore because I transferred it to the laptop as I had to empty it for another back up project). So in brief, my data is not backed up anymore.
My notebook suddenly crashed, I restarted it but it wouldnt turn on. I then performed archive and install, restarted it, it asked me for my username and password, I entered them, but it didnt take it.
I then changed my password again from utilities, but it still wouldnt take it. I called apple support and they were clueless. The discs I used to perform the installation are the same ones I got with my laptop when I bought it. When I try to change the password in utilities, it would not give me an option to chose username, but only to change the password.
What can I do at this point?
Can I install iWork without the administrator's password?
I'm installing iWork (I have the Family pack) on a family member's computer. Nothing sinister here.
She left the computer here so I could install it while she attended a Teacher Conference and I told her I would have it done when she returned.
Well, she didn't give me her password, she's not answering her cell phone and her husband has no clue. Ever.
I recently purchased a Powerbook G4 on Ebay and I just received it today. I bought the newest OSX software to put on it but when I put the disc in the computer and click install it says I have to enter an administrator password. I have no idea what the password is! How do I go about reinstalling the OS without the password? I just simply want to clear everything and reset it. I am not a computer technical person and normally on a PC I just put the disc in the computer and restart it and it boots from the disc. I tried doing that with the Mac but it never starts up an installation when I turn the computer on with the disc in it. I looked on another website and someone said to restart it with the disc in and hold the apple button and the C button and the down button. I tried that a couple of times and nothing happened.

My roommate has a Mac G5 running OS X.2. She has two accounts on it, one of which is the administrator. Lately she can not install any new software nor can she upgrade the software she has, even her internet browsers. When she tries, she gets a pop up telling her that an administrator password is required to install the software. Her password is correct or she wouldn't be able to log in to the system at all. I used Disk Utilities to repair the disk permissions thinking that would help, but it didn't. I even went to the extent of downgrading my own administrator level to normal and created a whole new account as an administrator thinking I could fool the system by having new permissions created. Nope. That didn't work either. So, I'm at a loss. She thinks we may have to wipe the hard drive and reinstall the software, but I'm hoping not.

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy wife couldn't install programs to her mac. It keeps asking for a password that she cannot remember. The lock is locked, so we can't change anything. I used the CD and went to the utilities and reset her user password there, but it mentions that it does not reset her keychain password. Well, I can't log in to change anything. How the heck am I supposed to change her keychain password? Will she lose the thousands of pictures that she has taken if I do reset it? Is there some way to save the data?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install Photoshop and when it gets to the point where it asks for the password, I enter it but the password box just disappears for a second and returns asking for the password again.(I entered it several times with the same result each time.)I'm certain that I'm entering a valid admin password and that permissions for the applications folder are set to read & write for admin and system.Just to be sure I tried entering the password incorrectly and the box shook as it normally would when an incorrect password is entered.Has anyone had a similar problem with Adobe products or installing any other software on Lion?
Also, I just installed Adobe Lightroom last night and it worked just fine. And when I just tried to run the Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool which also asks for a password and I'm having the same problem. So I know that it's not just Photoshop but I don't know if it's just something to do with Adobe or maybe all software which requires an admin password to install.Trying to repair permissions and run a virus scan now although I think these two options are unlikely to fix the issue.

I forgot the Name and Password I set up to log into my imac. It is an older imac, from 2006 and I can't remember which version operating system. I have tried to use the install disc to reset the password, but it does not allow me to do so. Is there a way to reset the name and password without the install disc? For as long as I can remember whenever I would turn on my mac there would be an image that I had chosen and then a field to enter password. Just recently I turned on my mac and the image or avatar was no longer coming up and it asked for Name and Password. I have tried every combination I can think of and nothing works. I have tried to reset using my install disc, but it says that I do not have a password to reset.

I have a 2008 iMac running Lion 10.7.2. I am trying to reset my Admin P/W,( I do not remember setting one up in the first place, but trying to use Terminal recently to do Maintenance scripts, it asked for one, which I cannot oblige it with). (I only put in a Master P/W). Â
The method I have been reading requires using the original software disk supplied with the Mac. My iMac came with Leopard, whch I upgraded to Snow Leopard and now to Lion.Â
Will the original Leopard disk be suitable for the above? or do I require the Lion recovery or whatever to do this task.Â

lately, any software that requires me to agree to accept a license and provide my Mac password will not complete the installation.  The window for installtion just returns to previous state of selecting an installation disk Using a MacBook 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, with OS 10.7.4, logged in with an Adminstrator account.Â

I'm not sure when this started happening, but everytime i try to download or install something (such as updating my itunes), a message box comes up saying "Type an administrator's name and password to allow Software Update to make changes". I type in my name and password and another box comes up saying "You must type an administrator's name and password to make changes to Software Update".

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been working on this for about 8 hours and I'm going nuts. I am using an Imac OS X version 10.5.8.I purchased a Canon MP560 today and can't figure out the problem. I don't even know where to start. I'm trying to connect the wireless printer using Airport. There is nothing listed when I click on 'Preferences- Print and Fax'.
I read the instructions that came with the printer several times, up to a point. I clicked 'wireless lan setup' on the printer. It's asking me for a lan access point and a wep key. I've used Google until I can't even think anymore. I read Airport is like a router, or can be used as a router. The blue light is on on the printer, and it says it's searching for a connection but can find one.
In order to make my wireless internet network secure, I added a password to it today. Every other computer in the house, as well as my XBox 360, is able to connect to the internet using the password that I set up. For some reason, when I try to connect to my Macbook, it tells me that the password is wrong, yet it works with the other 3 computers in my house. What am I missing? Do I need to change my settings on Airport? My wireless router is obviously working so what do I need to do?

This is the first time i reinstalled(clean install) my snow leopard on my MBP. All went fine but then i inserted the disc for bundled application (which contains the ilife apps) but it keeps failing.Â
It says that "the installation failed. the installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. contact the software manufacturer for assistance".Â
I've also done my research on this matter. I've gone thru a few steps i tried as below without success:Â
1)normal install - fail
2)repair permission - fail
3)install in safe mode - fail
4) install using another admin acc - fail
5) made an image out of the disc and install - fail
6) used a similar disc(my dad's since we have identical version) - fai
7)updated my system and install - fail
8) reinstall the mac - failÂ
i cant think of any other solution as im a bit noob when it comes to mac. is there any other things i could try before taking it Apple?
