Intel Mac :: Admin Password Won't Work To Install Software
Apr 1, 2012
I'm trying to install Photoshop and when it gets to the point where it asks for the password, I enter it but the password box just disappears for a second and returns asking for the password again.(I entered it several times with the same result each time.)I'm certain that I'm entering a valid admin password and that permissions for the applications folder are set to read & write for admin and system.Just to be sure I tried entering the password incorrectly and the box shook as it normally would when an incorrect password is entered.Has anyone had a similar problem with Adobe products or installing any other software on Lion?
Also, I just installed Adobe Lightroom last night and it worked just fine. And when I just tried to run the Adobe Creative Suite Cleaner Tool which also asks for a password and I'm having the same problem. So I know that it's not just Photoshop but I don't know if it's just something to do with Adobe or maybe all software which requires an admin password to install.Trying to repair permissions and run a virus scan now although I think these two options are unlikely to fix the issue.

First timer here. I bought a used G4 MDD 1.25 dual FW800 recently. Was pre-loaded with 10.5.6. I thought that I would add a hard drive. After attempting to format, it rebooted to a gray screen with a MacMonitor icon. If I hit "option", I can get it to progress to a blue screen w/ padlock asking for a password. I only remember setting a user password. I believe this is asking for an admin password.
So, I thought that I'd get the 10.5.6 Install disk to reset the password. I can't seem to boot from the Install disk! I've tried holding down the "c" key at startup, (also the "option" key). No avail.

Can I install iWork without the administrator's password?
I'm installing iWork (I have the Family pack) on a family member's computer. Nothing sinister here.
She left the computer here so I could install it while she attended a Teacher Conference and I told her I would have it done when she returned.
Well, she didn't give me her password, she's not answering her cell phone and her husband has no clue. Ever.

i just got a mac, it has OSX. I was messing arround with it and setting up accounts, and i got around to making the admin account. Well i didn't want my sister to have admin (IN retro it doesn't matter), how ever i make my account, and make it a admin. Well as it turns out as i made the account you had to have some "Finger board"? password. and i lacked that. not thinking i shut down the comp for the night.... and then went back in the morning to relise that all i had was a user level account.

lately, any software that requires me to agree to accept a license and provide my Mac password will not complete the installation.  The window for installtion just returns to previous state of selecting an installation disk Using a MacBook 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, with OS 10.7.4, logged in with an Adminstrator account.Â

I use a User account, but have an admin account for if things get messed up in an emergency. I notice every program that's installed just about on the user account is available in the admin account. What if a program is causing the issue? Wouldn't the admin account have the possibility of being hosed as well? Is there a way to stop this easily?

I am trying to uninstall Virex 7.5. I have got the Terminal uninstall command which opens Terminal. So far, so good. However, Terminal is asking me for my admin password but it's not allowing me to enter it. The cursor is not blinking it's just a solid black oblong - just bl**dy sitting there! Absolutely no response to any key except the enter key - then terminal helpfully says, 'Sorry, try again' What's going on? I just wanna get rid of Virex!!!

I am able to login to everything and set my username as the administrator, but I can not set a password for it, if i try to input a password or change the password I get an error message saying I have input an incorrect password. When I purchased the computer everything was blank except for the user name was set as mac user, as I said I was able to change the username but not the password.

I forgot the Name and Password I set up to log into my imac. It is an older imac, from 2006 and I can't remember which version operating system. I have tried to use the install disc to reset the password, but it does not allow me to do so. Is there a way to reset the name and password without the install disc? For as long as I can remember whenever I would turn on my mac there would be an image that I had chosen and then a field to enter password. Just recently I turned on my mac and the image or avatar was no longer coming up and it asked for Name and Password. I have tried every combination I can think of and nothing works. I have tried to reset using my install disc, but it says that I do not have a password to reset.

I have a 2008 iMac running Lion 10.7.2. I am trying to reset my Admin P/W,( I do not remember setting one up in the first place, but trying to use Terminal recently to do Maintenance scripts, it asked for one, which I cannot oblige it with). (I only put in a Master P/W). Â
The method I have been reading requires using the original software disk supplied with the Mac. My iMac came with Leopard, whch I upgraded to Snow Leopard and now to Lion.Â
Will the original Leopard disk be suitable for the above? or do I require the Lion recovery or whatever to do this task.Â

I came home today and my daughter (3) was playing games on Nickelodeons website. I noticed that she managed to download 6 .dmg files, something like 3avdi.dmg. I clicked on one and an installer came up on the desktop. I secure trashed everything. I cannot figure out for the life of me where these came from as I can only find .exe files on the Nick site.

I went to system preferences, and security, i turned on the firewall and repaired disk permissions, nothing helps. I still can't find a way to make it happen. It did at one point. Almost all the apps I have I got from the Apple site, I don't know if that's relevant.

My friend bought a 13" MBP (April 2010) from someone at a cheaper price, but that person didn't provide the original installation disks. I have a Snow Leopard Disc which I bought for $50 as an upgrade from Leopard. Any chance that can be used to reset the password?

I have a PowerPC G3 iBook, running OS X 10.4.11, which I bought a couple of years ago from a work colleague. It works great, but I want to change my broadband provider software, and need to input the Admin password to have the software installed. I have forgotten the Administrator password, so after trawling the internet I have tried to use the install disc that came with the iBook to reset the Admin password.
The install disc is version 10.2.1, and it lets me start (by pressing the C button on restart) and access the Change Password facility. I have changed the password, saved the changes and restarted the iBook. But when I then try to install the new broadband software, the new Admin password I've just set is not recognised! I have seen posts on the internet giving instructions on how to 'hack' after restarting and pressing the Command and S button, but I'm not confident in doing this because I've also seen posts on forums where people with 10.4.11 have had LOADS of issues after doing so! Do I need to try and get a new install disc nearer to 10.4.11, or is there another solution?? I don't want to damage a perfectly good iBook!

I have tried to delete a few applications from my harddrive since upgrading to Snow Leopard. When I drag or send an app to the trash it immediately bounces back or reestablishes itself in the same location. I have noticed that a lot of the apps are locked in the Get Info pane. Unlocking makes no difference whether I can delete or not...even with an administrator password.
