OS X :: Mac Permissions - Administrator Password Is Required To Install The Software

Feb 5, 2010

My roommate has a Mac G5 running OS X.2. She has two accounts on it, one of which is the administrator. Lately she can not install any new software nor can she upgrade the software she has, even her internet browsers. When she tries, she gets a pop up telling her that an administrator password is required to install the software. Her password is correct or she wouldn't be able to log in to the system at all. I used Disk Utilities to repair the disk permissions thinking that would help, but it didn't. I even went to the extent of downgrading my own administrator level to normal and created a whole new account as an administrator thinking I could fool the system by having new permissions created. Nope. That didn't work either. So, I'm at a loss. She thinks we may have to wipe the hard drive and reinstall the software, but I'm hoping not.

Software :: How To Install Mac OSX On Powerbook G4 Without Administrator Password

Dec 9, 2008

I recently purchased a Powerbook G4 on Ebay and I just received it today. I bought the newest OSX software to put on it but when I put the disc in the computer and click install it says I have to enter an administrator password. I have no idea what the password is! How do I go about reinstalling the OS without the password? I just simply want to clear everything and reset it. I am not a computer technical person and normally on a PC I just put the disc in the computer and restart it and it boots from the disc. I tried doing that with the Mac but it never starts up an installation when I turn the computer on with the disc in it. I looked on another website and someone said to restart it with the disc in and hold the apple button and the C button and the down button. I tried that a couple of times and nothing happened.

OS X :: Reset Administrator Password - Root Changes

Jan 13, 2009

I just bought a used Emac running 10.3.9. The previous owner does not remember the administrator password nor did I realize how important it is to have. I have the original install discs and did boot using the disc. I then went under the install menu and chose reset password. I changed the user password but have been unsuccessful at changing the admin password. The drop down menu in password reset gave me the option of Administrator (root), Application, or finally user. I have read a couple of articles cautioning not to change or work with root changes.

OS X :: Administrator / Password / Keychain Login

Sep 14, 2010

A week ago, my computer (Macbook) "crashed". When I powered it up, it would go to the grey apple screen, then it would go to a blue screen, then it would switch to a light blue screen, then back to the darker blue screen, etc and never fully boot into OSX. I finally found my install discs for OSX and reinstalled my operating system from scratch, formatted my hard drive, and started new. Once I reinstalled, I realized how outdated and different everything looked... and I realized I was running OSX 10.4. So from there, I found my Leopard disc (10.5), put that in, and "Upgraded" my system to 10.5.

And basically here's where I'm at now:........................

OS X :: Type Administrator Name And Password To Make Changes

Nov 17, 2007

After upgrading to Leopard, when I try to install or update any program on my computer it asks for the Administrator username and password. Well that should not be a problem seeing as how I am the administrator and so I type in my name and my password and it says "you must type an administrator's name and password to make changes to software update." So I went to system settings and checked and it no longer has my account as the administrator and I can't make any changes because I am not the administrator no more. After installing Leopard, this has happened. What should I do? (I am fairly new to Macs, I have had my Macbook about 3 months.) I also noticed that my Macbook (when I shut it) has started to wake itself up from sleep mode and stay that way while it's still closed.

OS X :: MacBook Not Connecting To WiFi - Password Required

Mar 13, 2010

Let me preemptively state that I know very little about computers. This problem is most likely easy to fix, but I wouldn't know where to start. We have wireless internet here in my house, and my MacBook will not connect to it. It's a Netgear router, and my Mac tells me I need a password to connect to it. We don't have a password set on our router. So, every time it tries to connect, it says that an error occurred. How do I get rid of this password thing? I just want to use the WiFi!

OS X V10.7 Lion :: Screen Sharing Name And Password Always Required?

Mar 8, 2012

We have a Mac Mini connected to our HDTV, pretty much for media server duty only. No mouse or keyboard conveniently located as a rule for this rig. We use the excellent Rowmote app (mouse, keyboard and romote control) on our iPhones to control it and it works great most of the time. However, sometimes you need a real keyboard. Since we usually have laptops handy, Screen Sharing seems like an obvious workaround. However, it ALWAYS (and when I say ALWAYS, I mean going back to 2005) asks for the name and password regardless of and inspite of checking and rechecking "Remember this password in my Keychain" about a thousand times since Screen sharing was first offered on the Mac OS, right up to 10.7.3.

This pervasive bad behavior can also be duplicated verbatim on our kid's media Mac Mini also. This is not a big thing, but it doesn't work, and hasn't worked for a very long time (in computer years). Does anyone know how to simply click on the Mac Minis, click the "Share Screen" button and well, share screens without constantly being asked to type in a name and password every single time?

OS X :: Disable Screensaver Password - Using Administrator Account

Jan 6, 2010

I am a network administrator and an mac user. No one else is my IT dept knows anything about macs so I have been given the responsibility of managing our 5 or so Mac's in the company. I've been able to figure everything out fine, but I have one user that insists on turning on the screensaver password on his computer. Now on windows, you can unlock a computer using an administrator account but on mac this is not the case. I want to disable the option for the screensaver password but I do not know how. The user is a local administrator on the computer because that is needed for a few things but he is making it impossible for me to work on his computer because of the password. Also, I've tried telling him not to enable it but he seems to not care what I think.
