MacBook Pro :: External Display Is Not Waking / Retina Display Flashes Through Different Screen Views

Sep 4, 2014

My external display (HP w2207) seems to conflict with my MacBook Pro (15 inch Retina display, early 2013) since I upgraded MacBook OS to 10.9.4.The external display works at initial boot of Mac but does not work after OS sleeps and I attempt to awaken, and while the external display is not waking, the Retina display flashes through different screen views, which only partially reflect my normal screen, or do not reflect my normal screen at all.

MacBook Pro :: Using Retina With External Display?

Jun 15, 2012

Currently I have a MBP 15" and use it on a daily basis with both the built-in display and an external 20" (1680x1050) display. I'm getting a new MBP retina and don't know how OS X is going to manage two displays with such a big difference in dots per inch. Will the "retina-ready" apps look just fine on the retina and enormous on the external?

MacBook Pro :: How Many External Displays Does The Retina Support

Jun 14, 2012

How many external displays dose the Retina MBP support? I have herd conflicting information about this, an apple store employee told me that it could support 2 thunderbolt displays while simultaneously running a HDMI connected display (witch would be awesome if true) but I am extremely skeptical, that seems like to much for one GPU.

I have a mbp with retina display and is not reading my rugged lacie external hd connected via the 2 usb ports. The lacie model that I have is the 500 gb one with the 2 firewire ports and one usb. When you connect it via usb you have to plug use 2 ports one for power the other for info. I'm trying that in the mbp retina and is not recognizing it. It doesn´t appear in the disk utility nor in the system info under the usb ports.

MacBook Pro :: Retina To External Monitor HDMI?

Sep 9, 2014

So after spending the last few hours trying to understand what is going on with the new HP EVNY 23inch monitor I just purchased to work as an extended desktop with my MBP and finding a number of other discussions relating to the topic where by the non mac external monitors have a very poor display due to the way OSX outputs the colour through HDMI. as seen here: MBP Retina: Poor image quality from hdmi output

Now I'm just wondering, before I return the monitor should I try a thunderbolt to HDMI connector and connect to the HP external display that way? I've tried searching on this topic with no luck so I justhad to ask the question because I actually really do like the screen.

MacBook Pro :: Retina Can't Use External 30" Dell Display

May 7, 2012

I've connected my 30" Dell 3007WFP display to my Macbook Pro 15" Retina laptop with Apple's adapter for Thunderbolt to DVI-D Dual Link.  The display is only receiving Single Link instead of Dual Link, limiting the resolution to 1280x800 instead of 2560x1600.

Has anyone else seen this problem?  On the forums at macrumors.com, a few other people have reported this issue.  One person there has reported that his adaptor (same model as I have) provided this display with Dual Link when connected to a Macbook Air but not when connected to the MBP Retina. If that's true, then it sounds like there's a defect in the MBP Retina. At the least, should I return the adapter until Apple makes some kind of a statement about whether this can be fixed?

MacBook Pro :: 2012 Retina Screen Getting Scrambled?

Sep 4, 2014

I've been using my MacBook Pro 2012 Retina with an external monitor lately with the lid closed. Today I tried open the lid without having the external monitor connected and that worked fine for a few minutes. But then the screen got "scrambled".... It's hard to explain but it seems that some pixels are dragged vertically. See attached image. Doesn't seem to stop doing this. If I restart the computer it might look OK for a few seconds, but then it will start looking like this again. If I shut down the computer and wait a while until I turn it back on, it will stay OK longer, but will eventually start getting "scrambled" again.

Just as I was writing this question, using my external monitor, the scramble effect stopped and my MacBook screen returned to normal. Not sure how long it's going to last and I would still like to know more about this.

My MacBook is also really hot right above the F3-F7 keys.

MacBook Pro :: 2012 With Retina Display Won't Recognize External Hard Drive

Jun 20, 2012

I have 2 Macbook Pro's, a 2009 and this brand new one I got today. My external hard drive is a 1 TB clickfree. It has worked for months on my old Mac but when I plug it into my new mac it doesn't even show up in finder or disk utility. I tried the USB ports with another device and they work fine. So it isn't a hard ware issue. The cables are USB 3.0. The external hard drive model number is HD2037N3.I have tried taking everything off (huge pain) and reformatting the drive and still it doesn't recognize it! how I can get my Mac to recognize it?

MacBook Pro :: How To Connect Two External Displays That Are Not Mirrored And Turn Off Retina Display

I have two questions:

1.  Is it possible to use two external displays either mirrored or not and turn off the retina display, and if so how it is done?

2.  Is it possible to close the MBP and use an external keyboard while using two external displays?

I am using a music production DAW Persons Studio One-2 Pro and it would be great to be able to have this type of a setup.

Defective Screen Or Graphics Card On New Macbook Pro Retina?

Jun 18, 2012

I just got my macbook pro retina 2.6 with 16 gigs of ram. It was working great for the first 40 minutes then on the left side of the screen two inches went black, then the screen went fuzzy then cleared up. I reinstalled the OS just to be on the safe side and sure enough it happened again. Called support and they told me DOA, however they can't do anything because apple support systems are down! Check out the photos of my screen. It will clear up if I don't use it for a few minutes which makes me think it is the graphics card. Hope this isn't a displaygate for apple all this money and I get a DOA - whatever happened to QA?

MacBook Pro :: 15" Retina Screen Flickering While On WiFi?

Sep 12, 2014

On my home wifi the screen flickers on my MBP. It looks like the top bar flashes irratically in the middle of the screen. There are no other issues and works fine otherwise. Just annoying that I can read or see anything...I will attach a video later. Right after I turn off the WiFi it goes back to normal. And of course my warranty expired, so I'm trying to find a solution to this before I spend $350 more on fixing this $2000 machine.

MacBook Pro :: Retina - Defective Screen (white Pressure Mark)?

Jul 2, 2012

After waiting 3-4 weeks I was so excited to finally receive my retina macbook pro today. To my dissapointment as soon as I turned it on this glaring white light/cloudy mark behind the screen stabbed me in the heart. So dissapointing to wait so long just to get a defective unit.

I called AppleCare and they said I could either ship it back for a refund, or I could take it into the apple store for a refund. Apple store is only 30 minutes away so instead of putting any trust in fedex I decided to just go return it in person.

So now I'm waiting up to five days for the money to be refunded so I can order again and wait ANOTHER 3-4 weeks to receive a unit because I upgraded the base model to 16GB of ram, and it may have the same exact problem when it arrives... who even know...

I saw on macrumors a few others have had this issue so I'm not alone, but I do hate that I was unlucky this time around.  [URL]

MacBook :: Retina Won't Boot Past Grey Screen With Logo?

Nov 30, 2014

My computer died last night with each application not responding. I couldn't shut down normally so I held the power button to turn it off.

Next morning, I tried to boot the MacBook Pro and the boot process stalled at the grey screen with the Apple Logo and spinning wheel. I let it go for an hour and there was no change on the screen. Based on Apple's desk I ran Hardware diagnostics (extended with looping disabled) and got the following error

4HDD/11/40000000: SATA (0,0)

The screen shot is below

I ran this again with standard testing (no looping) and standard with looping and all gave the same results.

I have a 2 month old rMBP Mid 2014 and i am experiencing horizontal lines in the middle and bottom of the screen. For example, If i was browsing a site and then close the window you can still see parts of the website in the middle of the screen. I took the laptop in for the technicians to have a look and they a blaming it on the software, claiming that Gfxcardstatus is causing the problem. The problem still persists even with gfxcardstatus turned off. Does Gfxcardstatus do this? Is it the Lcd or gpu failure? Take a look at the photos ....

MacBook Pro :: Going From IMac To Retina For Video Editing?

Jun 21, 2012

I've been using a pretty high specced iMac for video editing for a couple of monthes;Current model 21.5 - 2.8ghz with i7 processor250GB SSD16GB RAMI also run off a second 24inch monitor My main workflow is Premiere Pro 5.5 for editing, After Effects 5.5 for compositing and effects and Da Vinci Resolve 8 for grading. I push the software reasonably hard (footage doesnt stray above full HD res so far though, I use 5D mk2 video footage 99% of the time) and I've been super happy with how the iMac keeps up.

The general work that the iMac has to chew through is - big Premiere Pro projects with a reasonable amount of dynamic linking with AE. After Effects is used for mostly compositing with quite a lot of visual effects. Resolve is used for grading with a lot of 3D tracking, noise reduction and normal grading stuff - same as the others...quite intensive).

However..... I have no portable computer and not enough money to invest in a decent one in addition to the iMac. I don't go a week where having a good MBP wouldn't have been a massive help. I'm not a massive geek when it comes to macs. I appreciate that the iMac is a desktop and should outperform any laptop but there are loads of things on the MBP retina that seem to level the field. I'd look at the following spec; 2.3GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.3GHz16GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM256GB Flash Storage

As far as I see the MBP has;the better USB3 sockets (a godsend when you have 64 gigs of footage to download).More thunderbolt sockets (I could use two external monitors).Faster RAM (1600mhz against 1333mhz).Better screen res (although I have some questions on that).More graphics RAM (1GB against 512mb)

So thats a lot of things that look better. Im not worried about the small 256mb HD as only the footage Im currently using will be on the MBP's HD itself.

So my questions are as follows; How should the two units stack up against eachother performance wise when being given quite intensive tasks from Premiere Pro, After Effects and Resolve (the MBP just simply being a notebook.....the MBP having faster RAM....the iMac having a faster processor etc)? How should the graphics compare (the iMac having a 6775 chip with 512 memory and the MBP having a 4000 chip with 1GB memory)? How should the screens compare. The MBP obviously has a massive PPI boost but.....is the colour balancing meant to be good enough. So far I've been more than happy to use the iMac for colour grading).Am I asking too much of the MBP to run two extra monitors when at home...?Am I just being stupid getting rid of a desktop for a notebook as my main working computer...?

MacBook Pro :: Selling Powerful IMac For Retina?

Jun 22, 2012

I am considering the possibility of selling my iMac to fund a retina MacBook. The screen really won me over when playing with it in an Apple Store. My iMac specs are as follows: 27-INCH, Mid 2010 Processor  3.6 GHz Intel Core i5Memory  8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3Graphics  ATI Radeon HD 5750 1024 MB256 GB SSD + 1TB HDD It is in flawless and mint condition. I am hoping to get enough to fund the Retina MacBook (around £1500), as I get HE discount. I have a 24" Apple Cinema display I can connect the Retina MacBook to. I will use it only as my home workstation, as I already own a 13" MacBook air. So my Question(s) are as follows: 1) Will the MacBook match the power of my current iMac (I like to edit photos, play some music, play WoW) 2) Is this move worth it, or silly? 3) How will the 24" display look when connected to the retina? Can I use this external display as an "extension"? 4)?
