MacBook Pro :: 15" Retina Screen Flickering While On WiFi?

Sep 12, 2014

On my home wifi the screen flickers on my MBP. It looks like the top bar flashes irratically in the middle of the screen. There are no other issues and works fine otherwise. Just annoying that I can read or see anything...I will attach a video later. Right after I turn off the WiFi it goes back to normal. And of course my warranty expired, so I'm trying to find a solution to this before I spend $350 more on fixing this $2000 machine.

MacBook Pro :: Wifi Very Slow On 2012 Retina?

Jul 4, 2012

i just got my 2012 Retina MBP and i absolutely love it. there's one problem though. wifi is EXTREMELY slow.

we have a campus-wide 802.11n network, all my other devices work flawlessly.

can i somehow force my MBP NOT to use the 5 GHz band but to stay at 2.4 GHz? I believe i somewhere read that this could fix the problem. ethernet via thunderbolt works as supposed.

MacBook Pro :: Retina - Wifi Connects And Drops Non Stop?

Jul 4, 2012

New to a Mac and I just received my new MBP Retina two days ago.  I am having a strange issue where right after i turn on the computer it will connect and drop my wifi connection over and over again.  If i turn wifi off and back on again it fixes the issue.

I have the latest updates for the MBP so not sure if this is a hardware issue or a software bug. My router is also brand new from Linksys and is working flawlessly once i do the above steps.

MacBook Pro :: Screen Flickering / The Screen Brightness Dims And Then Brightens Very Quickly?

Jun 15, 2009

Has anyone noticed a very slight flicker on their new MBPs? I have a new 13" and, every so often, the screen brightness dims and then brightens very quickly (happens in less than a second). The option for auto-adjusting the screen brightness is off so it's not that particular function. It's most noticeable on all-white backgrounds both on AC and battery power. Hard drive access doesn't seem to coincide with the dimming.

MacBook :: How To Fix Screen Flickering

Apr 7, 2009

My white Macbook, the one i'm currently typing on; the screen keeps flickering. 've uploaded a video taken from my cell phone of the screen flickering. I love my white macbook but the screen keeps flickering until I keep adjusting the angle of the screen. Some days the screen flickering is minimal and I'll adjust the screen easily with minimal screen flickering. Other days i'll be adjusting for a few minutes until I can get it at an angle where the screen doesn't flicker. Here is the link of the screen flickering: [URL]I've noticed there is less/to no flickering at all the closer I adjust the screen downward, i.e., the closer it is towards the macbook itself being closed.

As for the Macbook itself, it was purchased in December 2006 and have had AppleCare since. In June of 2007 I took it in to Apple since I noticed the screen flickering very minimally only when the screensaver came on. I was then told a small soda spill was on the logic board and AppleCare would not cover it, though I was still covered regarding all cosmetic repairs, aside from that soda spill. It hasn't been till the past 2 months the screen flickers heavily and I'm just sitting at my desk adjusting the screen until there is no flickering so I can get my work started. I was considering selling my Macbook for anyone that wouldn't mind the screen flickering but i've upgraded this Macbook with a 500 GB hard drive and before attempting to sell it i'd rather fix the problem myself.

Everyone, I'm all ears. I'd love to fix this problem. If it means completely voiding my AppleCare warranty and opening up my Macbook, so be it. the warranty expires in 6 months anyway.

MacBook Pro :: Screen Is Flickering A Lot Lately?

Apr 5, 2010

I did a quick search of the forums, and so I know there are previous threads about this. But my screen is flickering a lot lately and so I plan on either sending it to Apple, Driving 3 hours to Dallas since it's the closest Apple store, or taking it to an authorized repair place here in town. I just have a few questions for anyone that has either had this problem before or maybe just has dealt with repair issues before.1. Should I wipe my Hdd?2. Which of the three options would be the better bet?3. Anyone know if they would just fix it or if they would replace it?

MacBook Pro :: The Screen Is Flickering Intermittently?

Sep 12, 2010

Apologies if this has been posted before, but rather than trawling through the thousands of threads, and before hitting the Genius Bar.... thought I would run this by the experienced MBP owners first.Got my first MBP (crossed over from PC back in April), and within the last couple of weeks, noticed that the screen is flickering intermittently.

Wondered if it's a glitch stemming from the switch from Graphics card as/when needed, or if it's an indication of something more serious and warrants taking it in to the Genius Bar... (don't want to part with it for days unnecessarily).

MacBook Pro :: Screen Flickering And Stay Mostly White

Jan 2, 2011

Almost every time I would move my Macbook Pro (I generally use it as a desktop, so move it very rarely) my screen would come on white and not show anything for an hour or so, (except a flicker or bleed of color here and there) when the image would suddenly flicker on back to normal. Now, it just stays mostly white, with lots of lines going up and down - the bit of 'color' in the lines does seem to match where windows should be on screen, but very generally, and it doesn't update in real-time, it 'refreshes' every so often. I attached a photo so you can see what I'm talking about.

I had my logic board replaced about a year ago now because of a faulty Nvidia 8600 chip (have a Santa Rosa MBP). I'm currently using an external monitor - which last time was exactly what I did when the chip started dying out and external display worked just fine then, despite the fact that the GPU couldn't drive the internal display anymore, so that's not a clear indicator that the GPU is fine. When I first started having this problem, I brought it to the Apple Store, and they ran the test on the GPU and said it was fine... but that was months back, so I don't know?

I'm thinking (hoping) this is a display cable issue and not a GPU issue. Also, if it was the display cables at fault, how much would it cost to replace the display cables? (internal LCD -seems- to work fine, backlight, etc., I think it's the connection..) Also, as a side-note, since my internal LCD is no longer working, how can I boot into Windows XP (Boot Camp) on an external monitor? It seems not to 'plug and play' at all, unfortunately, and I obviously can't get to the display settings if I can't see anything on the LCD!

MacBook Pro :: Screen Flickering Magenta / White And Pixelated Image

Jun 12, 2010

I'm having a problem on my mbp screen, although it happened only once just an hour ago. The screen goes flickering magenta and white and some pixelated image. I needed to force shutdown using the power button because it seems to stalled. After restarting, it went to normal. I dunno if it has anything to do with the gfxstatus utility that I've installed the night before. I know it might be the nvidia graphic card itself but I just don't have a clue right now. My MBP is just 8 days old and my 1 to 1 exchange has expired since it covers the 1st 7 days only.

My MBP spec:
MacBook Pro 17" AG, i5 2.53 Ghz, 4gb RAM, 500gb Hitachi HD, 512mb nVidia GT330M video card, Mac OSX 10.6.3, with everything updated. Tthe attached pic is not showing the exact image since the screen was flickering etc and I'm just using a camera photo. I just noticed while I'm just surfing this forum + facebook, my temperature is at 67-70 degree celcius, which is high (normal around 38-45). I look at Activity Monitor and found that Kernel Task is using up to 80% of CPU. I have a feeling that this is not normal, and it had not happened before.

MacBook Air :: (10.9.3) Grey Flickering Screen After Connecting To External Monitor

Jun 2, 2014

Recently I connected my macbook air (bought it in 2011, now on Version 10.9.3) with a Panasonic TV (TX-32LM70F) via Thunderbolt to HDMI adapter. After I disconnected the external device, the macbook air's screen still worked normal, but when i restarted it, it was only flickering grey.

I found out that it actually boots normally and i can use it with an external monitor (in fact I am using it right now), but that the built-in macbook screen simply doesn't work anymore.

I tried to restart while connected and while disconnected to an external screen, I have reset the SMC Controller, I have reset the PRAM Controller, but it hasn't changed.

This is actually the second time something like this happenend (it was another external device i connected it to), and last time, about a few weeks ago, it just worked again after a few days for no reason, all i did was wait until all energy was gone from the battery and the reload it. So might it be a battery problem? Or is it some controller i don't know? It was the same phenomenon two times: connect to external monitor - disconnect - built-in screen still works - restart - built in screen only flickers grey - macbook still boots and works fine with the very external monitor that might have caused the problem.

PowerPC :: Screen Resolution And Color Calibration / Grey Flickering Screen On Internal Monitor

Dec 5, 2007

Thing is I got hold of a 1ghz 17" iMac almost for free, it had a dead logicboard (I checked it with a voltage-meter), but I figured I could fix it and have a small hobby project-thingie going on. Well I just got a new logic board today, for a 1ghz 17" iMac g4.

Things is I only get a bright grey screen from my Mac when I boot. I've tried connecting it to a external display and that works fine. Everything is there.

I then reinstalled Tiger on it, with the computer connected to my external screen. And I still have the same problem. (I have now disconnected the ext. screen and is controlling the iMac from my MBP). So at least it isn't the installation.

So what is the problem? I can via an Apple Keyboard control the brightness on the blank screen, which would indicate that it does react to input of some degree.

I've read that if the inverter is dead or anything else is dead, you would get a rolling grey screen, flicker or something like that and not a steady bright grey. One thing I'm thinking is. What if somehow this logic board was for a 15" 1ghz imac g4? Can I check this?

I read that long thread about guys buying hi-res displays for their MBPs, and they had to replace some display profile? Could I maybe fix it with a different display profile-file?

I'm really confused by all this, and would appreciate any help I can get.

Model: PowerMac6,1
CPU-Type: PowerPC G4 (3.3)

and

the gfx chip is a GeforceMX4 with 32mb.

The display is a mode 9c27, manufacturer 610, serialnumber 00000, manufacture date: B84D7200.

MacBook Pro :: Late 2007 15" Kernel Panics - Screen Flickering

Feb 5, 2010

Late 2007 MBP 15" kernel panics upon boot up and requires two /sbin/fsck -fy filesystem checks in single user mode/safe mode in order to get it to boot. Once you are at the login screen, it hangs after a bit/login and the screen starts flickering fast and visibly. There is also a faint visible "blotch/ink blot" like transparent area on the screen when it flickers (just to let you know, the screen looks FINE, no black blots (common for broken LCDs) and there does not appear to be any physical damage.

Anybody know what the heck might be going on? So far, I can already tell you that I DON'T KNOW if the machine was dropped or what the user did do to it (I'm only fixing it).

Also, during the fsck, I commonly get this: "Incorrect block count for pcscd.pub" it should be 16 (or 17) which gets me scratching my noggin (googled it, not much that I was able to do to fix the machine though). Fsck fixes that, but upon the next reboot after the kernel panic, I get it again in fsck.

We called the machine but of course when it was not bought the AppleCare was not registered (even though we bought it for the user) so right now we're waiting for Apple to register it (had to fax the receipts/POs) which usually in my experience only took few minutes to complete before we can even take it to the store.

My questions are:

1.) What is going on.

2.) Hardware problem? Bad Logic Board/GPU? Hard drive going bad?

3.) Software issue? Reinstall OS X?

MacBook Pro :: Flickering Screen And Freezes - Won't Boot Pass Apple Logo

May 5, 2012

My macbook is driving me insane now. Just recently, my macbook has occasionally flickering screen and freezes after that. Yesterday, when I was watching youtube on fullscreen, it first has flickering screen, then freezes. So I hard booted it pressing the power button. Then, when I try to restart it, it won't boot pass the apple logo no matter what. Here's my macbook spec2007 Summer Macbook Pro 15"Snow Leopard 10.6 OS XI cracked my screen once, and got a replacement, don't know if that matters.

I've tried the following:Safe mood reboot, the progress bar goes about half, then disappears and stalls again.Booted in verbose mode but it gives a warning message: 'com.apple.driver. internal modem support declares no kernel dependencies; using com.apple.kernal.6.0'. Booted in Single user mood, and typed fsck for disk repair. After checking said the volume Macintosh HD appears to be ok. But still won't boot pass the apple logo after restart.Boot with installation disk pressing C at startup.

Success after a few try: Opened Disk Utility and did disk repair (no problem found). Reinstalled Snow Leopard OS X 10.6. This time it booted with Finder and everything for a short while, then the screen flicker and freezes again (before I can backup anything!). Then, I can't reboot pass the apple logo again. When I try to reinstall Leopard OS X 10.5 with installation disk, the macbook seems to try to read the disk, but won't boot. I've got a CD stuck in the optical drive now.

MacBook Pro :: Will Not Start After Shutdown - Purple Vertical Lines Flickering On Screen

Jun 3, 2012

I was sitting with my MacBook Pro, when out of no where, purple vertical lines began flickering on the screen. I tried getting them to stop, then eventually just shut down my laptop. When I went to power it up again, it first popped up with the white apple screen and chime, then a gray screen dropped down with the message "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button for several seconds or press the Restart button.".

I tried the Power button option first, but the computer does not come back on. When I press the Power button again, it does the same thing all over again. I do not know where the "Restart button" is, so I haven tried that. I have also tried pulling the battery and restarting, restarting in safe mode by holding the shift key at start up, and trying control-r and control-s functions. None of which worked.

MacBook Pro :: 2012 Retina Screen Getting Scrambled?

Sep 4, 2014

I've been using my MacBook Pro 2012 Retina with an external monitor lately with the lid closed. Today I tried open the lid without having the external monitor connected and that worked fine for a few minutes. But then the screen got "scrambled".... It's hard to explain but it seems that some pixels are dragged vertically. See attached image. Doesn't seem to stop doing this. If I restart the computer it might look OK for a few seconds, but then it will start looking like this again. If I shut down the computer and wait a while until I turn it back on, it will stay OK longer, but will eventually start getting "scrambled" again.

Just as I was writing this question, using my external monitor, the scramble effect stopped and my MacBook screen returned to normal. Not sure how long it's going to last and I would still like to know more about this.

My MacBook is also really hot right above the F3-F7 keys.

Defective Screen Or Graphics Card On New Macbook Pro Retina?

Jun 18, 2012

I just got my macbook pro retina 2.6 with 16 gigs of ram. It was working great for the first 40 minutes then on the left side of the screen two inches went black, then the screen went fuzzy then cleared up. I reinstalled the OS just to be on the safe side and sure enough it happened again. Called support and they told me DOA, however they can't do anything because apple support systems are down! Check out the photos of my screen. It will clear up if I don't use it for a few minutes which makes me think it is the graphics card. Hope this isn't a displaygate for apple all this money and I get a DOA - whatever happened to QA?
