MacBook Pro :: How To Get It To Transmit In N
Dec 20, 2010
I just got a new router, the netgear wndr3600. I have it set up and everything connects to it wired or wireless. The problem is that my macbookpro is only connecting in "g" standard and not "n". The transmit rate is 54. How do I change it to N. This is in the 2.4ghz band. I tried the 5ghz band and it went to the "a" standard. How do I get it to transmit in N?

I've been following this forum for quite some time after I first got an iPod touch and, recently, an MBP "17.Now, after I did some searches on the internet and couldn't find the answer, Im asking here:My MBP comes with a built-in draft-n wireless card. I bought a draft-n wireless router just for the purpose of utilizing greater wi-fi speeds, but there is one thing I noticed:when I boot MacOS and connect to the wireless network it shows me, tat the transmit rate of the network is 130 (Mbps I presume), on the other hand, when I boot to Windows (via Bootcamp) and connect to the same network - it shows a network speed of 280 Mbps. In both cases the transfer speed are relatively close and go up to 8-9 Megabytes per second.

I've connected my macbook 6.1 to my HD TV via a mini display port to HDMI cable. The picture is fine however I don't have any sound! Will I need a separate connection for audio on the macbook version I have (I know the newer ones are able to transmit picture and audio through the HDMI connection). Or this this a fault with the cables I have?

Is there a way to find an Ethernet Transmit Rate? I'm running a Mid 2010 Macbook Pro. For example, to find the wifi transmit rate, I know I can hold down OPTION and click on the wifi icon in the menu bar and view various wifi specs in the pane that drops down. I also know how to look up LINK SPEED via Network Utility > info > ethernet/wifi, etc....Â
Is there even such a thing as an ethernet transmit rate, or am I creating my own vocabulary?

I'm trying to transmit audio from my 2008 late model MacBook Pro to my 2011 Samsung HDTV. My MacBook's Model Identifier is MacBook Pro 4,1 (ancient, I know). I purchased this DVI to HDMI cable which does a beautiful job of transmitting the video to my HDTV, but no audio (as advertised):[URL]

I need them to do (FTP to my webhost). Both of them cost the same amount to purchase. Transmit has a good track record with people but Flow seems prettier and offers touch gestures. I don't do anything crazy with FTP, pretty much just straight forward stuff to maintain a small forum and other personal sites.

Which program is better for FTP and S3 use? The way I see it is that they both do it, but Transmit is cheaper and doesn't integrate with Finder. Expandrive is more expensive but integrates with Finder.

Having enormous troubles with using Wifi on my MP. I've had this before and it's a PITA.The transmit rate just drops to 1 (it should be up in the 90s shouldn't it?) Is there any known fix? I'm using Leopard. Should I upgrade to Snow Leopard? Does this solve it?

Does anyone know of a way to stream from an Airport Express unit to the Airport Base Station or a laptop?
My goal is to be able stream vinyls from my turntable to either my laptop, or even better, other airport expresses. I have a preamp connected to my MacBook via an RCA to USB "hub". I'm always using Final Vinyl to rip vinyls to WAVs. But this requires my laptop to be within a USB chord's distance from the turntable.
I was hoping there would be a way for the Express unit to transmit instead of receive. This is probably impossible. My assumption is that if the Express can extend a network, then it must have transmitting capabilities as well as receiving.
Any other recommendations to achieve my dream of "Wireless Vinyl"? I guess another stationary computer would do it, but I'm hoping there is something simpler than that.

My 2.4 ghz IMac is showing a transmit rate of only 78 on our wireless network while my Macbook seems to work fine in the same location with a rate of 130. Is there any way to increase the speed or is their something wrong with my airport, should be faster. When selecting the option key and clicking on the aiport symbol it shows the following data.
0:8b:5d:af:35:22
Channel 3
RSSI: -72
Transmit Rate: 78
Out router is a BT Home hub, while the modem attached to it is an Echolife HG-612.

I've made a bit of a cock up with a website i've been developing, and being a bit new to all things Mac i've deleted some files.
Basically i've downloaded a copy of the website from the server to my local disc but the local copy also contained all my raw files PSD's etc. I didn't realise that transmit deleted the local copy before downloading and not merging them which is what most windows ftp software does.
Anyway, long story short, is there any way of restoring those files either via transmit or another bit of software ?

Somehow this is not clear to me. I am looking to make the switch from PC to Apple and would like to start with a laptop. As i live in an old farmhouse (with thick 2-3 feet walls), I don't think one airport extreme base station will not cover then whole place. Therefore, I wonder if I can use the airport extreme base station and use the smaller airport extreme base stations as a jumping point to transmit the signal.

I just picked up the 2TB and I have a few questions about it. I also just recently talked to a buddy of mine that has the 500 or 1TB version of the TC, but it seems that the setup/options are a little different. For example I would like to just use the TC as N only on the 5Ghz band, but it doesn't allow for me to do that. I can check a box for the 5Ghz but it doesn't specify to use the N band only. The "transmit rate" is different as well. Now, I can only select low, med or high instead of 6mb, 10mb etc. What is the transmit rate and what can I do to optimize the TC for optimal performance? I wish I could screen share with someone so I can figure this out.

Random question, I have Uverse internet. The modem is also a WAP. Would it be possible to use an Apple Airport to receive the signal from the Uverse box wirelessly AND transmit a wireless network simultaneously?

So last December my laptop got smashed and everything works except for the backlit screen. In fact I can still use this laptop it is just extremely hard since the screen does not light up. The person that smashed it ended up buying me a new laptop so I have this beat up (and I mean the shell is destroyed) laptop with quite a lot of functioning parts.
Now a few weeks ago my girlfriends Grandad spilled a beer on his brand new 2010 Macbook. The logic board is shot so it is almost cheaper for him to buy a brand new laptop.
Would it be possible for me to take the logic board out of my 2008 Black Macbook and put it into his 2010 White Macbook?

By far the most interesting benchmark trend coming out of the latest Macbook Air tests is that of the 320M GPU - is this thing somehow clocked differently than in the Macbook/Macbook Pro?
From:
[URL]
The latest Macbook Pro 13" 2.4 Ghz gets 33 FPS in Call of Duty 4, whereas the Macbook Air 13" (using the same 320M GPU) gets 40 FPS. Even the 1.4Ghz 11" gets 37! So obviously we're not talking about a CPU limited game - the only explanation then is that the GPU in the Macbook Air is clocked differently than in the 13" Macbook Pro, no?
From:
[URL]
Again the Macbook Air clocked at 2.13 ghz is beating the 2.4 Ghz Macbook Pro in World of Warcraft and Portal! And in WOW the 11" 1.4ghz still manages to beat the 2.4 Ghz 13" Macbook Pro.
Anyone have any additional insight into this? Anand did a terrible job of testing these for gaming performance, unfortunately, so he may not have even noticed this trend.

I have a 2008 13" white, plastic MacBook. Its a bit slow, but adequate. Thinking of selling it and paying the difference to get the 11" MacBook Air. I've heard it is similar in speed and has the same processor.
The main problem I have with my current MacBook is that its heavy - I need something lightweight to easily carry to school and class for note-taking and such.
How is the Air better or worse, and would I be losing anything significantly by replacing the 08 plastic MB with a MBA?

I just upgraded my daughter from last year's MacBook to a new 2009 MacBook Pro (my mother will get her old one) by cloning the drive using SuperDuper. Everything works fine except it doesn't detect the audio hardware in the OS. I see that the new macbook pro has different audio hardware according to system profiler. Is there a way to copy the driver off the install DVD or should I just go ahead and reinstall everything.

I just bought a macbook as a replace for my five year old iBook. I was planning on purchasing a second power adapter. I like the size and more rugged connector on the Macbook Air power adapter.
I have searched around and it sounds like the Air adapter will work with a MacBook but I am not completely convinced. I understand that this adapter will only charge or power the unit but not both.
Has anyone tried their Air adapter on a MacBook? Could an Air owner tell me the voltage and current rating (outputs) on their adapter?

I wanted to know if I can replace the upper case of a Core Duo white macbook with that of a Core 2 Duo black macbook? The white one has the distinctive yellowing of the rev A macbooks, so i'd like to make it better whilst making a black/white frankenMac.
If not, can I at least replace the airport card?
