MacBook Pro :: How To Create A Clonezilla USB Key

I've created in the past a clonezilla USB key for taking block level backup of my mac-mini and it works just fine to this day.
But today I tried to use the same USB key with my new MacBook Pro (it run Lion) and the USB doesn't appear even as an option to boot from when I press the option/alt key. Has anyone managed to successfully create and boot from a USB key of Clonezilla?
What are the steps you used? and which iso image did you use of clonezilla with your macbook pro + lion?
I would suspect it's an EFI problem because I don't even see the USB as a viable bootable device. The USB key was repartitioned as a GPT 1-partition HFS+ disk, and then I followed that by the hdiutil command to convert the .iso image of the clonezilla cd to a .dmg file, and then used the dd command to copy it to the USB key.
tried two different .iso images... nothing worked for me with this mac book pro....Â

I want to create a disk image of a Mac drive (.dmg file).I figured that it might not be a good idea to try and image a live disk, so I unmounted it (the user dragged the disk icon to the eject icon), and I confirmed it was unmounted by looking at /Volumes. To be clear here, this isn't the boot volume, that is /dev/disk0./dev/disk1 is an internal drive - as it happens it's the original drive for this OSX 10.4 G5, AND /Volumes/HITACHI is the mount point for an external USB drive.I have tried this twice.On both occassions, things seemed to go well, but after a few minutes (about 10 - 20 minutes), I observed that the target file on /Volumes/HITACHI stopped growing, then a bunch of unpleasant stuff started to happen:
* I did lsof /Volumes/HITACHI/MacHD_20120201.dmg and found the PID of the diskimage binary, ps waux showed it was doing nothing (CPU% was 0.0). This indicates a stuck process to me.
* The hdutil command stopped producing '.'
* I could not cancel the hduitl command
* I could not rm the MacHD_20120201.dmg file
* I could not ls the /Volumes/HITACHI directory
* unlink also hung
A little further into this, the Mac became unresponsive. I observed that the disk was now mounted again (grrr!). As a work around I switched the USB drive off and on, and Mac came good - all my terminals started to respond, the GUI responded for the user.My workaround has been to use CCC to make a clone of the disk - but I don't like this because I think .dmg files are much more convenient (for a start, now that I've used CCC I can't use the USB drive for anything else).
* Is my methodology wrong? Do I really need to umount the /dev/disk1
* Can you disable finder from automounting an internal hard drive (I am particularly interested in this)Â

I didn't really know what category to post this but I'm using a macbook so why not.
Mac's can't run -bat files created on a windows desktop. If I would o create a new one on a mac would the commands be different than the ones from windows? And to create a .bat file you need a .txt file. But you can't create that with TextEdit. What app to use?

I have an early 2008 Macbook Pro and recently, it seems like there are random 5 minute sessions where the hard drive would make noises as if Spotlight is indexing. However, during this time, nothing is happening. Just me browsing the web, not doing anything special. When the hard drive does this, the whole computer slows. It can still be used, but opening new tabs in Safari can take a good 5 seconds and same with opening programs and finder windows and sometimes I even get the beachball.

i'm using a MacBook Pro and Ableton Live 8, for those familiar... I have to create an ad-hoc network to get some apps like Liine apps working with my other Apple devices. Liine has some very clear and simple videos, as some i saw on Youtube. The thing is, for some reason, i don't have the AirPort option in my settings. I ran disk utility today and received a message stating: "This disk needs to be repaired. Start up your computer with another disk (such as your Mac OS X installation disc) and then use Disk Utility to repair this disk. I check the box my mid 2010 MacBook Pro came in and there is no disk. I am currently running OS X 10.6.8. I have tried searching online to find instructions for creating or downloading a Mac OS X installation disk, but my search has not been successful. How do I create or where can I download the correct Mac OS X installation disk so that I can make the repair?

Ive copied my current iphoto library to an external hardrive because my hard disc is full. Now I want to creat a new library on my mac, but by pressing and holding either the alt or options tab,then clicking on iphoto does not give the option, only quit, remove from dock, show in finder etc.

I would modify some fonts (Chinese characters) because I need to insert in the text of a document just a part of them. I know there is a windows application which can do this, but when I tried to open in my mac a document made with that application they couldn't be decoded.Is there a way with mac to create and/or modify a font? Is it possible to create a WiFi-Hotspot from my MacBookPro if it's connected to a WiFi-Network? I am trying to download a software on my macbook pro for school but any kind of software i try to download does not work and i keep getting the same the installation failed the installer can't create the folder "/var/folders/4_/kvc34hv1741dpkjd8pw1rf000000gn/T//Install.476p5XYcx." problem. I did the recovery hd to repair my hard drive and that is ok now. I also verified the softwares on disk utility and it says all of them are ok. I have plenty of room on my hard drive for the soft ware and i do not know what else to do. -version 10.7.5 processor 2.4 GHx intel core i5 memory 4GB-

I am very new to MAC OS and I have VMWare installed on my MAC upon VMware running window7.
And I am using Macbook Air with 8GB RAM the problem is I am running low RAM space and due to this system gets hugs all times.Â

Anyway I got the flashing folder error, booted from the snow leopard install disc and want to get a dmg of my hd so I can recover files if possible. I get Input/output error while trying to create the dmg. I get invalid b tree node size error when verifying and I can't repair it.
Is there another way to backup at this point or salvage files without buying/using other software? I'm at college so resources are limited. I don't have a backup so it's fairly important that I can somehow recover files. Also I've tried resetting PRAM with no luck. Is the drive busted beyond repair or is there something I can do?
