MacBook Pro :: Does Not Recognize Files On DVD, But PC Recognizes
May 20, 2012
I have a DVD -R with .jpg and .mp4 files. These files are recognized on my PC, but my MacBook Pro (OS X 10.7) does not recognize the files. Although the DVD loads onto the Mac, the folder and files are not visible. Â
I am going to try a work around and burn the files to a different DVD using the PC

Just purchased a MacBook Air 13" notebook. My first ever use of a Mac. I have an existing home Wi-Fi network that has always been PC-based.Now, I have joust purchased a "book"t6-cfs-lucia10 written in Chinese!
My desktop PC has Bluetooth. I cannot get the Mac & PC to recognize each other. I can't share files across the network [on the Mac]. I can't even figure out how to restart the notebook or create favorites in Safari.Â

So I just installed Windows 7 64bit on my white macbook (2.0Ghz C2D with 2GB Ram). However, the system says I only have 1GB of Memory. Is there any way to fix this? Or is it only displaying 1GB while using 2?

I work at a student IT help center at a university in Montana. A girl has brought in her MAC 10.4 to try to connect to the universities wireless WPA network. All the settings are correct, for I connect laptops of all sorts for students everyday. The computer recognizes the network but will not bring up the "certificates" window so i can tell the computer to "always trust" the certificates. but it never comes up. i have tried deleting the Wireless profile and deleting the keychains for the WPA. And starting over from scratch, but the "Certificates" window still never shows.

I have a early 2011 MacBook Pro 13" running the latest version of Lion. I have been using my MacBook with an external monitor since I brought it in 2011 and have had no problems with connecting it to my external monitor. Connected via mini display port DVI adapter and a DVI cable to a Philips monitor.
Two days ago when I plugged the MacBook back in to the monitor I connected and but now only displays a black screen, I can move the mouse off the MacBook screen and over to the external monitor and back but it is not displayed on the monitor. I have tried connecting other devices to the monitor and they work fine.

last night my MacBook Pro (13inch early 2011 model) froze on me so I let it be and closed the lid. In the morning it was still frozen. I did a hard restart and got the question mark on a folder icon. I tried everything, resetting PRAM, etc, etc. Northing seemed to work untill I plugged in my external hard drive (used as my time-machine backup) and I got to the re-installation/ utilities / safari / restore from backup screen. In the utilities it saw my external hard drive, but not my internal main drive. Any ideas? I've read hundreds of similar posts and nothing seems to resolve an unseen hard drive. Oh btw I plugged in another SATA HDD and it didnt recognize that either.

So my old 15" early 2006 Macbook Pro (1,1) no loger recognizes the primary display. I can use an external monitor just fine, but when I go into System Profiler, it's like my primary display disappeared. I reinstalled Snow Leopard, reset PRAM, NVRAM, repaired my permissions, tried to update my mac, but litterally nothing I have tried has worked.Â
It started when I tried to install both Windows 7 and Ubuntu. After completing the Windows 7 installation, I restarted my computer and it just hung on the Apple logo. I could feel the fans begining to spin really fast and it felt like my laptop was on fire. I restarted my computer, let it cool down, and it hung at the Apple logo again. I rebooted it a final time, and nothing. Black screen. No backlight or image...nothing.Â

I'm trying to help out a friend here - he has a stock Early 2008 Mac Pro (Dual Quad-Core Xeon, 2.8 GHz) with stock 2GB RAM (1+1 GB). We just installed an additional 8 GB (4+4) from Newegg.com, and the problem is that the Mac Pro system profiler now recognizes only the new RAM but not the old RAM; System Profiler states that the Mac has 8 GB (it's supposed to state 10 GB). We used a chart from Apple's website to make sure the sticks are installed properly in the right slots. Any ideas about why the Mac isn't recognizing the original two sticks anymore?

How do I rename drives my Mac recognizes? My iDisk is my MobileMe login name (I'd prefer "iDisk") and my Air Sharing Pro shared drive is my IP address. I want to change that to Air Sharing, or something.

A couple of years ago I loaded all my music onto a Macbook Pro and used iTunes to load it to my iPhone. Now my computer has been stolen and so I have bought a new one with Mavericks. No matter what I do iTunes won't import and play my wma files. What do I have to do to get iTunes to recognise these files.

I have a mac mini server so it doesn't have a built in drive. I've been using a macbook air superdrive and it works wonderfully. I've had the need to queue up multiple copies and disc reads though recently, so I bought a second superdrive. (Less having to change discs, more automation while I'm away). The problem is, the mini only reads one superdrive? Both superdrives work individually if they're the only one plugged in, in all usb ports. But if both are plugged in, the 2nd one is not recognized and appears to not even have power as it won't accept a disc. how to make the mini see both devices and treat them both as active cd/dvd drives?

I am having issues viewing an external hard drive, accessing files via the network and my Tivo even no longer recognizes the server. Here is my setup:
new MacBook (wireless)
PC with XP (wired)
Airport Extreme
DSL modem from provider (with wireless built in)
Basically I have the AE connected to my DSL modem. I also have the PC connected via Ethernet. I have a USB printer and USB external hard drive connected via a powered USB hub. Works
- Wireless internet and printing on the MacBook
- Wireless Printing on the PC and internet connection (wired)
Does Not Work
- Hard Drive shows up on both AE Utilities (Mac & PC) but I cannot access it, nor can I find out how
- Cannot file share between the Mac and PC
Its almost like the AE internet connection does not exist....for example, with my iPhone or other visiting laptops I need to connect directly to the DSL router....the AE does not even present itself as an option. I also had my Tivo connect via WiFi and now it cannot connect to my PC as it did before. All of this, but my PC has a wired internet connection through the AE.

My hard disk is a Raid system. 4x3TB = total 12TB but 3 TB is for backup. So in effect usage space is 9TB. But now used up 7TB (called it original harddisk) I took my iMac to a shop and it dis some verify and tried to repair the disk using Disk Utility. But it cannot repair. Apparently, he said that my hard disk is okay but it has a directory corrupt problem. That is why now my FCPX cannot read all the data. All my media files for FCPX are stored in this 9TB external hard disk. So, I was told the steps to do are:Â
1)Â copy all these 7TB data from Original hard disk into a new hard disk (called it haddisk B).Â
2) Then reformat the old 9TB hard disk (which we earlier called as original hard disk).Â
3) Then I copy back from hard disk B into Original Harddisk 9TBÂ Question is will FCPX be able to recognise again my media files from the Original hard disk in

The difference is, that opposed to him, I am in fact using Garage Band to create a podcast. I am also using an external mic. And even though the external mic gets recognized by my ibook G4, it is for some reason not allowed to record. (Yes, my ibook recognizes it, however, the ibook won't pick up any minor sound with the external microphone. A person at a small recording studio here in my city made me realize this, as I thought the problem was other).
P.S. By the way, I had already tried two options and neither one worked out. For option number one, I used as preamp a product called iMic, in addition to the external microphone and the ibook G4. For option number two, I used the same products mentioned in option number one, plus an additional pre amp. The "success" was the same as before: recognition by the ibook G4, with the problem that one can not record into the ibook.

When I insert a CD or DVD into my 27" iMac (early 2012) my OSX side doesn't recognize the disk, I can't access data or eject it. However, I can access the disk and its contents thru my Windows virtual machine (Parallels) so I know the drive works. Is this a Parallels settings issue or do I need to change settings/other in my OSX systems preferences?

I've had a MacBook for nearly 2 years and recently convinced my parents to switch from a PC to an iMac. I've managed to get everything up and running with the exception of our scanner which is an Epson Perfection 1640SU.When I push the scan button on the scanner, the computer recognizes the scanner and comes up with a preview. I can make adjustments with the menus but I can not actually push the "scan" button because it is grayed out. I've attached a screenshot so people get an exact idea of what I'm dealing with.

I'm in the process of organizing my "Documents" directory and all the subdirectories within it and have decided that the use of file tagging may be beneficial. I've been playing around with programs such as Tagit but was wondering if there is a way to see what tag a file has in Finder. There is the comments field available when you look at file information popup but I don't see a ways to see tags. In Pathfinder you can access tags but it's convenient to access.

I'm having a problem with my MBP and am stumped; I hope someone has a solution. Here's the backstory (please bear with me; this may be a bit long in order to give you all the details). My keyboard croaked, and the 160gb hard drive was filling up, so I thought I would replace both and add more RAM while I had the beast opened up. So I did all that, successfully (I think). Prior to taking out the HD, I backed it up using Time Machine. The MBP was running Leopard. I have the original 10.4.8 disc, after which I updated to 10.5.8. Â
After swapping out the keyboard, drive and adding RAM, I fired the system up and it worked! So I inserted the Install disc, went to Disc Utilities and formatted and partitioned the 750gb new drive. When I asked the system to install the OS, it chuckled at me and did nothing. The new partitions are on the desktop, but the Install disc doesn't recognize them. I plugged my external drive in (the one that has the Time Machine backup...), restarted the MBP, and it booted from the Western Digital external drive. how can I get the system to recognize the new drive and install the OS on it?Â

My MacBook simply does not get along with one specific DVD, and I can't figure out why. It's the third disc in a set of four (First 13 episodes of Glee on DVD -- don't judge), and the others play perfectly. The disc is flawless, as far as I can tell, but for some reason, my MacBook won't recognize it. When I put it in, it sounds like the disc is trying to spin but can't. It does this for about ten seconds and then it gets spit back out.
The DVD will play anywhere else but the MacBook and the MacBook will play anything else except that DVD. I would just accept that this DVD and my Mac will never be friends IF it was just a stand alone DVD, but like I said, it's from a set of four. They should all be in the same format/region/what have you, right?

I have viewed a number of topics on external HD's that can't be recognized, but can't seem to find an answer to my problem. I own a WD 500GIG External passport drive, that has worked with my MAC since I purchased it. All of a sudden yesterday when I plugged it into my macbook (in the same slot I always plug it in) I got the USB port is drawing too much power. I immediately checked forums around the net and people were saying the mother board needs replaced. Well I have a mac mini at work an a second macbook pro at home. I plugged the same HD into all three computers and got the drawing too much power.
One of my macbook pro's has firewire 800 so I tried to connect the drive using that, but now it just doesn't recognize. The lights flash on the drive as if it's mounted properly, but I can't get my computer to recognize the drive. I've been through disk utility and the drive does not show up there. I have ordered a firewire 800 to 6pin cable to attempt to connect it that way, but other than that I'm out of luck I think. I can't even get a computer to recognize the drive in order to reformat it. Has anyone ever had this problem before? If so what steps did you use to resolve it, that is if you were able to.

Recently, I plugged my WD Passport external hard drive into my Macbook's USB port. Suddenly, after over a year of working fine, the Macbook wouldn't recognize the WD Passport. The drive's blue light came on and it was whirring, but I couldn't get an icon to appear in Finder or on the desktop. I assumed the problem was with the Passport, declared it broken and got over the loss of my files. But tonight, I plugged in my boyfriend's WD Passport and encountered the same problem. It refused to recognize it, then when I unplugged it and my boyfriend plugged it back into his Macbook...nothing. His computer would no longer recognize it, even though it had worked fine not 10 minutes prior. Does that mean the problem is my Macbook?
