Mac Mini :: It Can't Recognizes CD Drive

My 2010 Macmini no longer recognizes the CD drive.
Info:Mac mini, Mac OS X (10.7.3)
I have a mac mini server so it doesn't have a built in drive. I've been using a macbook air superdrive and it works wonderfully. I've had the need to queue up multiple copies and disc reads though recently, so I bought a second superdrive. (Less having to change discs, more automation while I'm away). The problem is, the mini only reads one superdrive? Both superdrives work individually if they're the only one plugged in, in all usb ports. But if both are plugged in, the 2nd one is not recognized and appears to not even have power as it won't accept a disc. how to make the mini see both devices and treat them both as active cd/dvd drives?

last night my MacBook Pro (13inch early 2011 model) froze on me so I let it be and closed the lid. In the morning it was still frozen. I did a hard restart and got the question mark on a folder icon. I tried everything, resetting PRAM, etc, etc. Northing seemed to work untill I plugged in my external hard drive (used as my time-machine backup) and I got to the re-installation/ utilities / safari / restore from backup screen. In the utilities it saw my external hard drive, but not my internal main drive. Any ideas? I've read hundreds of similar posts and nothing seems to resolve an unseen hard drive. Oh btw I plugged in another SATA HDD and it didnt recognize that either.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to help out a friend here - he has a stock Early 2008 Mac Pro (Dual Quad-Core Xeon, 2.8 GHz) with stock 2GB RAM (1+1 GB). We just installed an additional 8 GB (4+4) from Newegg.com, and the problem is that the Mac Pro system profiler now recognizes only the new RAM but not the old RAM; System Profiler states that the Mac has 8 GB (it's supposed to state 10 GB). We used a chart from Apple's website to make sure the sticks are installed properly in the right slots. Any ideas about why the Mac isn't recognizing the original two sticks anymore?

I am going to try a work around and burn the files to a different DVD using the PC

I am having issues viewing an external hard drive, accessing files via the network and my Tivo even no longer recognizes the server. Here is my setup:
new MacBook (wireless)
PC with XP (wired)
Airport Extreme
DSL modem from provider (with wireless built in)
Basically I have the AE connected to my DSL modem. I also have the PC connected via Ethernet. I have a USB printer and USB external hard drive connected via a powered USB hub. Works
- Wireless internet and printing on the MacBook
- Wireless Printing on the PC and internet connection (wired)
Does Not Work
- Hard Drive shows up on both AE Utilities (Mac & PC) but I cannot access it, nor can I find out how
- Cannot file share between the Mac and PC
Its almost like the AE internet connection does not exist....for example, with my iPhone or other visiting laptops I need to connect directly to the DSL router....the AE does not even present itself as an option. I also had my Tivo connect via WiFi and now it cannot connect to my PC as it did before. All of this, but my PC has a wired internet connection through the AE.
So I just installed Windows 7 64bit on my white macbook (2.0Ghz C2D with 2GB Ram). However, the system says I only have 1GB of Memory. Is there any way to fix this? Or is it only displaying 1GB while using 2?

All the settings are correct, for I connect laptops of all sorts for students everyday. The computer recognizes the network but will not bring up the "certificates" window so i can tell the computer to "always trust" the certificates. but it never comes up. i have tried deleting the Wireless profile and deleting the keychains for the WPA. And starting over from scratch, but the "Certificates" window still never shows.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI do have a copy of the the Mac Mini SL Client software but I don't have another Mac to create the USB restore disc in order to load the client on the Mini Server via usb drive. I don't intend to use the Server Software and don't want to 'activate' the license so I can resell it instead. Can I just use the Server to create the bootable restore disc without 'activating' the Server License and locking it to my serial number? Or is there another way to create the restore disc if you don't have access to another Mac to run disc utility?
Have a new Mac Mini, using an external drive but I can't get it to show up in finder. It's a Lacie 1TB Porsche design HDD, using a USB connection directly into the mini. I tried it at first by connecting to an open usb on my cinema display..no good. Also no good when connected directly into the mini.

The difference is, that opposed to him, I am in fact using Garage Band to create a podcast. I am also using an external mic. And even though the external mic gets recognized by my ibook G4, it is for some reason not allowed to record. (Yes, my ibook recognizes it, however, the ibook won't pick up any minor sound with the external microphone. A person at a small recording studio here in my city made me realize this, as I thought the problem was other).
P.S. By the way, I had already tried two options and neither one worked out. For option number one, I used as preamp a product called iMic, in addition to the external microphone and the ibook G4. For option number two, I used the same products mentioned in option number one, plus an additional pre amp. The "success" was the same as before: recognition by the ibook G4, with the problem that one can not record into the ibook.
I have a 2008 HV20 camera that I have been using for years to stream through firewire. Lately my Mac OS X 10.6.8 will no longer recognize the camera and does not show up in the system profiler. The settings in the camera should be all correct, it is set to DV.

When I insert a CD or DVD into my 27" iMac (early 2012) my OSX side doesn't recognize the disk, I can't access data or eject it. However, I can access the disk and its contents thru my Windows virtual machine (Parallels) so I know the drive works. Is this a Parallels settings issue or do I need to change settings/other in my OSX systems preferences?

One of the drives in our 2009 mac mini server 2009 has died. I have taken apart many minis so have no problem taking it apart to replace, but does anyone know which drive is the primary, "Server HD" drive? Would it be the top drive (first drive you come across during disassembly) or the bottom drive closer to the logic board with the two pads stuck on? Just wondering if anyone knows for sure so I can avoid removing the drive that's still working fine.
Also, to keep the server running in the mean time, I am booting to the second drive which is working fine. Just curious, once the dead primary drive is replaced , can I simply use carbon copy clone to copy back from the 2nd drive, or will I need to install snow leopard server back onto the new drive?
I installed a Kingston SSD drive in my 2010 mac mini. If I put the OSX install DVD (grey disc 1), the SSD is not visible in either the installer or disk utility.
The SSD is a Kingston 64 GB SATA 2.5-inch SSDNow V Series Solid State Drive. Cheap drive.
The funny thing is that before i started all this I restored a SuperDuper image of 10.6.4 from my old mini to the SSD using a usb to SATA adapter. Installed and it worked! The SSD booted OS X but the ethernet jack was not working.
Does anyone know of a workaround for installing OSX onto a drive that is not being recognized in disk utility?
I'd like to find a way to reinstall OSX using the grey DVD without having to remove the SSD drive.
Have a Powermac G4, dual 500MHz, 2GB RAM, has a USB 2.0 card in one of the PCI(or whatever) slots.
Bought an iPhone 4.
Realized I needed to be running Leopard, so installed Leopard and updated, etc.
Now, I plug the iPhone in, iPhoto recognizes it as a camera, but iTunes is not responding.
I have a early 2011 MacBook Pro 13" running the latest version of Lion. I have been using my MacBook with an external monitor since I brought it in 2011 and have had no problems with connecting it to my external monitor. Connected via mini display port DVI adapter and a DVI cable to a Philips monitor.
Two days ago when I plugged the MacBook back in to the monitor I connected and but now only displays a black screen, I can move the mouse off the MacBook screen and over to the external monitor and back but it is not displayed on the monitor. I have tried connecting other devices to the monitor and they work fine.

I've had a MacBook for nearly 2 years and recently convinced my parents to switch from a PC to an iMac. I've managed to get everything up and running with the exception of our scanner which is an Epson Perfection 1640SU.When I push the scan button on the scanner, the computer recognizes the scanner and comes up with a preview. I can make adjustments with the menus but I can not actually push the "scan" button because it is grayed out. I've attached a screenshot so people get an exact idea of what I'm dealing with.
View 3 Replies View RelatedNow that I have a New Mac Mini, What is the best internal hard disk to upgrade it with. I'm thinking dependability first and one that's quiet. Now that the Seagate 500gb 7200rpm drive is at v.4 it seems the way to go, just want to make sure. The Hitachi TravelStar 7K320 320gb is a cheaper option if its just as good or better for dependability and silent/cool operation. And on reading some reviews of the Western Digital Scorpio Blue 500gb 5400 it seems a very good drive too and maybe just as fast as the higher priced and faster spinning Seagate.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm considering using my new Mini to drive two 42" HDTVs for a display in a mall... same signal would be sent to each TV, perhaps by using a "Y" adaptor?
Can the Mini do this? And if so, what's the best way to get the signal from the Mini to the two TV's? (They have HDMI inputs.)
So my old 15" early 2006 Macbook Pro (1,1) no loger recognizes the primary display. I can use an external monitor just fine, but when I go into System Profiler, it's like my primary display disappeared. I reinstalled Snow Leopard, reset PRAM, NVRAM, repaired my permissions, tried to update my mac, but litterally nothing I have tried has worked.Â
It started when I tried to install both Windows 7 and Ubuntu. After completing the Windows 7 installation, I restarted my computer and it just hung on the Apple logo. I could feel the fans begining to spin really fast and it felt like my laptop was on fire. I restarted my computer, let it cool down, and it hung at the Apple logo again. I rebooted it a final time, and nothing. Black screen. No backlight or image...nothing.Â

I have just listed my mac mini on eBay and I have found out that the DVD drive has died, bugger!
Does anyone have a link to a UK based reseller where I can buy a replacement DVD drive from. I tried eBuyer and Amazon but couldn't find anything that I though was suitable.
Have a MDD that always needs the surge protector shut off then back on to start it.I had installed a Western Digital 750GB drive in it.It has Tiger on it with all of my docs and pictures etc.Have been scared of using the MDD and bought an Early 2009 Mini to replace it.The mini only has a 120GB drive (and 4GB RAM) and I don't want it to get filled up.It had Leopard and I upgraded it to Snow Leopard. Some of my Tiger software can't be upgraded to SL, so I'd need to use the MDD drive to access it.Can the HD be used as an external drive and booted from the Mini with Firewire in order to use Tiger? Currently, I'm using a USB drive with the Mini to save docs and pics on, but it's getting to be a pain because some stuff isn't on it and have to change USB drives.
As others have said, the Mini blows the doors off the MDD!I maxed out the MDD to 2GB of RAM and thought it was fast. The Mini's runs circles around it!
Clearly there must be a way to do this, right? Can I install off an external hard drive? Off a USB drive? Share my macbook pro's DVD drive somehow? If the hard drive on the mac mini is completely reformatted and I plug it into the USB port on the external hard drive which I partition and install the Leopard DMG would it be able to boot off of it?

It's the first of the Intel ones so it's just a Core Solo, but I figured perhaps I could turn it into a file-server with a large internal drive replacing the DVD drive.Has anybody done this or know of anybody that has? Does a 3.5" drive fit where the superdrive is now, or do I have to go 2.5"?
