I've completed the migration to my new mac but nothing seems to be on it. There is nothing in my documents, pictures, itunes... what should I do?

However, before we did that we wanted to make sure all her documents/settings were on the MacBook Pro. So I went ahead and wiped the old MacBook Pro clean and then used Migration assistant from the MacBook to move all of her documents and settings. Needless to say this was the easiest migration I have ever done to a new system. And I am extremely happy that I work in an environment is mostly made up of Macintosh computers. So while all of you here know that Migration Assistant is the best, I am mostly writing this thread for those who do not yet own Macintosh computers

I read in this post that it should be a simple manoeuvre to move the pictures folder to another location and replace the pictures folder in the old home folder with an alias pointing to the pictures folder in the new location. I thought perhaps I can follow that procedure also for the other folders.

I am seriously not happy with the results (all I really wanted was to move my iTunes and a limited few apps, and it seems that I got nothing that I wanted). Western Digital My Book or My Passport? There are so many versions of each and I don't know which one would be best. Is one better than the other? I read where some people use two different drives, one for important documents and one for media files.

i tried to watch a live channel by safari. if i use normal pc i can see it but when i use mac book pro i can't.i am a new user of mac book so not enough idea. i installed flip 4 mac as-well to convert the window media file for mac. but still its not working. when ever i tried it to open . it opened by quick time player and then few seconds that msg appears.

it seems that I have lost all my documents in my documents folder on my MacBook Pro. They were there a couple of days ago, I did not delete them and no one uses the mac other than me. How can I get my documents back??? I am running Lion OS (i think)

When I try to copy large files over to my Network Attached Storage device, such as Movies or TV Shows, It comes up with the following message, (see picture below) even though I have no other Applications open in my Dock. Is there something I'm missing? It's an intermittent fault too which suggests something wrong is going on, which probably isn't my fault.

I have installed Disc 1 onto my Toshiba Laptop to enable Remote Disc sharing and I have followed the exact instructions as per Apple Support website and I am connected on the same network on both machines. When I open Finder on my Macbook Air it does show my Toshiba drive and when I click to try open the disc, it thinks for a while then comes up with error "The operation cannot be completed because the original item for "[disc name]" cannot be found."
View 12 Replies View RelatedI got my new iMac last night and proceeded to migrate my MacBook to the iMac through the ethernet cable. Everything thing went smooth and as planned until i opened iTunes.
I open it and my music is not in there. I can click on the store and it operates properly, but when i go back to music, part of the image of the store is in the iTunes window.
ALSO, when i plugged in my iPad it didn't recognize it. it did nothing, actually.
iPhoto opened normally and appeared to be okay, until i started to click on the thumbnails, and it opened up a black screen.
this is happening for almost every photo in iPhoto except for two that happen to be recent ones and located on the desktop.
seems to me that iphoto is having trouble locating the original files, but i have no idea how to tell it where they are.
i should say that all the files (photos, music, movies, apps, iphone and ipda backups) are on the iMac. it seems like everything is there, but these two programs can't seem to locate the files.
It seems that my new MacBook Pro is finally on its way so I am preparing for the switch from XP to OS. I am pretty much set but still have some questions which I couldn?t find an answer for yet. So here we go:1.Partitions I:Do I need different partitions on a Mac as well? On Windows I always had my System Volume which I tried not to touch at all and then had another partition with all my data to be able to reinstall Windows without having to backup all my data. How does that work on a Mac? Do I need to reinstall Mac OS at least once a year as well because it has become terribly slow? Any other reasons why I should have different partitions?2.Partitions II: I am going to keep a copy of XP running on my Mac as well. I?d like to install it via BootCamp and then use it either with BootCamp or with Parallels or VMWare (prolly the former). Do I have to define the Windows partition beforehand? My iphoto and itunes libraries did not copy over. I put my old computer in target disk mode but i can't even open the music folder or the photo folder in the user of my old mac. When i try, it tells me that "The folder "Music" can't be opened because you don't have th permission to see its contents"...
... and so i go to info and try to change the permissions to read/write, but nothing changes...
how do i get into these folders to i can copy them?
I've recently migrated to a new MacbookPro running Lion, from a Macbook running Leopard. My iTunes account and computer, though authorized, will not sync to my ipod, saying it will delete 15 or more files purchased through itunes as the computer is not authorized. I de-authorized both computers and authorized the one I am currently using - to no avail, it still throws up the error. The account keeps reverting back to an old .mac address that I never used and have changed this to my new ID within the Mobileme website. Am I going to have to find the original music files and copy them in to my itunes again rather than trying to do it through this authorizing thing? Is there any thing I can do to get this error to go? I have recently got some new music that I put on itunes, but due to the error am unable to sync my ipod to get the tracks on there now!

How do I get instruction for downloading Documents from my Imac to my Ipad?

I used to just plug my iPhone 4 (ver. 4.2.1) into my iMac and iTunes (I think) opened with a window showing pictures that were on my iPhone or somehow asked if I wanted to download (upload/import??) the pictures/movies to my iMac. I do not do this often, so I may well be forgetting something in the process. When I plug the iPhone in to the iMac, the first message that pos up is "no camera connected." Then iTunes opens and show my iPhone on left. I cannot find the pictures that I just took on the iPhone though.

Is there any way to move the existing pics on my iPhone to, my NEW iMac? I HAD a PC which, crapped out (hard disk failure). My problem is, if I let iTunes, sync, it will erase my pictures for which, there is NO backup. If I lose the pics on my iPhone 4, they are gone forever. Emailing them is not an option, there are 2000 of them.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI wanted to transfer his iTunes library and few pics and files but I had the wrong firewire cable so I went ahead and setup his MBP for him. I now have the correct cable and need to use migration asst. to transfer the iTunes library and files. I tried once but ran into problems. I am transferring from an iMac running Leopard that has 4 user accts. The problem I had is that it tried to transfer all accounts! All I want is the iTunes library from his account and a few folders from his desktop. What do I select when prompted during the migration? Would it be easier to erase the hard drive and reinstall SNL from the cd and use migration asst. from the beginning? I have installed MS Office 08 and I can reinstall that as well.

"The operation can't be completed because the item is in use."I have set all permissions of that file to Read & Write but still can't empty.I also tried to rename file, move to another folder etc, but without success.
I've been getting the "error -36" "operation could not be completed because file "" could not be read or written when trying to backup one external firewire drive to another drive (either another external firewire, or my internal startup drive). After the error, the copy operation will hang and be impossible to cancel, forcing a find relaunch about 50% of the time.
-Disk Utility finds no problems with the disk
-The filenames do not contain illegal characters
-If I try enough times the problem file(s) will eventually copy, but then another file will become the problem, suggesting that the file itself is NOT actually corrupted. After successful copy, the file (an MP3) plays just fine. Subsequently, I will have trouble copying that same file again.
There are no strange noises from the HD and I can feel the vibrations from it spinning as normal. My guess is that the HD is on its last legs and is acting flaky but that the data is still OK. What can I do to rescue the data before the damn thing dies completely? Now before anyone jumps on me to UTFSE, I have searched extensively, but havent found anything that addresses my specific situation (especially the part about the files being randomly OK and not OK.
