What external hard drive do you use and recommend for Itunes music files and other media?
Western Digital My Book or My Passport? There are so many versions of each and I don't know which one would be best. Is one better than the other? I read where some people use two different drives, one for important documents and one for media files.
Wanted to know if it was possible to save pictures in iPhoto to an external HD. Same question when using GarageBand/Logic. Is there a way to save the projects in the Ext HD so that they dont save on the MBP? Do I just drag em to the ext HD? I have a Seagate 320GB that I wanna use on my 17" MBP i5, 500GB HDD, 4GB RAM.

When my dad tried attaching his external drive IPhoto wouldn't let him copy the pictures and Os X didn't read the flash drive he gave me to try. Another piece of information that might help is, that my laptop is the only Mac in my family, everything else is windows.

Can I store some pictures on my External HD that I use for Time machine Backups? It is not partitioned and at the moment all I have on that HD is my backups. I know they would already be on the HD if they are on my computer, I just don't know how I go about pulling one folder of pics off the time machine.

How do I move my iphoto picture library to an external drive and delete from my HD and then access through iphoto? I lost my iphoto library so I have everything in Masters on my HD. When I import to iphoto, it groups all the photos and sates into various events. Is there a way to get my organization back or is it another manual process? I recently got an imac, and I am new to the the mac world but decided I loved my iphone how bad could a mac be? My husband and I each have our computer he has a PC & I have a mac and a PC laptop.We bought an external hardrive to dump all my many many pictures on it.The idea is we will not save anything on our computers but instead work off of the hard drive that is automatically backed up.Ok now that you know the back ground.How can I view pictures from the external hardrive in iphoto with out haveing to make an iphoto library on my external hardrive.I would not mind putting all my pictures in the iphoto library as long as I could view or manipulate the pictures from a PC, does anyone know if this is a possibility? I have asked at the one to one sessions that I paid for but they can't help. I guess it also hard for them to help when I can't very well be lugging my desk top in and out of the mac store for help.
Any ideas I really like the iphoto tools and it could be very helpfull, but only if it doesn't limit me to always working from my computer.I have great photo editing software on my laptop and want to be able to access the pictures from my laptp edit save and later view from my mac.I found out how to make iphoto open the iphoto library on my external harddrive but I am asking for more.

I got a Seagate 500GB external hard drive recently. I'm looking to delete files from my Mac after I back them up on the external hard drive. I tested this with one picture and after I deleted the picture then backed up the hard drive, the hard drive 'erased' the picture. I did talk to Seagate and the guy said it wasn't actually erased, it just went into history. (Although I can't find history and forgot to ask :/)
So, my question is - How can I put files on the external hard drive then delete them from my Mac and when I later back up my computer, keep the files on my external hard drive that were previously deleted from my computer. I know the files will be in history but I'd like for all of them to be in one place instead of searching through history for maybe one file here and there. I hope this makes sense!!! (I have Leopard OS)
I'm trying to copy photos from my Pictures folder to my external HDD connected to my Time Capsule and received the following error. The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -8058). If I connect it direct to my Mac it copies fine.

I used to just plug my iPhone 4 (ver. 4.2.1) into my iMac and iTunes (I think) opened with a window showing pictures that were on my iPhone or somehow asked if I wanted to download (upload/import??) the pictures/movies to my iMac. I do not do this often, so I may well be forgetting something in the process. When I plug the iPhone in to the iMac, the first message that pos up is "no camera connected." Then iTunes opens and show my iPhone on left. I cannot find the pictures that I just took on the iPhone though.

Is there any way to move the existing pics on my iPhone to, my NEW iMac? I HAD a PC which, crapped out (hard disk failure). My problem is, if I let iTunes, sync, it will erase my pictures for which, there is NO backup. If I lose the pics on my iPhone 4, they are gone forever. Emailing them is not an option, there are 2000 of them.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI wanted to transfer his iTunes library and few pics and files but I had the wrong firewire cable so I went ahead and setup his MBP for him. I now have the correct cable and need to use migration asst. to transfer the iTunes library and files. I tried once but ran into problems. I am transferring from an iMac running Leopard that has 4 user accts. The problem I had is that it tried to transfer all accounts! All I want is the iTunes library from his account and a few folders from his desktop. What do I select when prompted during the migration? Would it be easier to erase the hard drive and reinstall SNL from the cd and use migration asst. from the beginning? I have installed MS Office 08 and I can reinstall that as well.

View 15 Replies View RelatedI wasn't sure whether to put this post it iTunes (since all my music is played in iTunes) or in Mac Lion.I purchased a new external HD because my old one is about to fail. However, the old one is working fine right now. I have both HD's plugged in to my laptop. I am trying to transfer the music files from one to the other. But the copying gets stuck, and after several minutes, says one of the over 1,000 songs has an error and the copying is stopped. Without choosing a few songs at a time and copying that way, and then removing the file the error message shows, which will take a long time, is there any work around for this?

Messages keeps switching the conversation view from "Show Names and Pictures" to just "Show Pictures". This is in the menu under: View > Messages > Show Names and Pictures. I have to change it multiple times a day, including every time I open the app from a closed state.
This is very confusing in group iMessage conversations where all the iMessages are coming from the same grey silhouette icon. The issue is only happening on my Mac mini. It's not happening on my MacBook Air. Both are running Mavericks 10.9.3...So I keep changing the setting here, but it somehow just switches back to Show Pictures only:
I have my iTunes library on a external HD. I purchased a new one with a bigger capacity and I tried to highlight and copy everything to the new drive and it wont let me. A window pops up saying that it cant be copied to the new drive because there are backup items items included or something like that. The drive that I am trying to drag everything to is partitioned so that Time Machine gets 600GB. Could that be what its talking about?
