View 2 RepliesI put my mac on to charge overnight and went to bed. I woke up and it wasn't charging. I got my sisters charger and it worked fine. I pulled the cable out and found black smoke on the connector. I just opened it up and took photos of what it looks like - I know that this will have voided any warranty if there was any still on it. Something caught fire or exploded. I need everyone's help on what action to take.

When I run my finger anywhere over the aluminium chassis my finger feels like either the laptop is vibrating, or there is a tiny grain of sand under my finger tip.
I know these are both untrue as when my finger is stationary it doesnt do it, and also I can use any finger or even my wrist as i type this.
Then, when I unplug the magsafe, it ceases to do it!
Am I barking up the wrong tree, and also why does it do it only when my finger is moving?
Is this a new issue or has anyone else had their replacement charger causing a funny feeling under the fingers?
macbook pro leakage of electricity when i insert magsafe connector, the light become green. but i touch pro, i find leakage of electricity. then i touch the iphone which is charging by pro , i find leakage of electricity too. now , i am happy i still alive , and i try to insert magsafe connector again , leakage of electricity is not exist. i afraid to hits by leakage
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased the latest iteration of the MBP 2.2 ghz. When plugged into a wall socket (220v here in HK), if I touch the lid I can feel a light electrical current in my hand - similar to the feeling of electric massagers, a light vibrating feeling. I didn't notice this while plugged in in the States (though I bought the comp here in HK). It doesn't hurt, but is this normal, or something I should be concerned about?
View 15 Replies View RelatedHaven't found anything relevant on this. Basically my 2010 15" MBP just emptied its battery and is almost fully charged now. All this while it was plugged into electricity. Why?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI was just using my laptop, and I got up for a few minutes, and then heard a weird crunch. I came back to see a quarter-size black spot with at least 3 cracks in it. There are also vertical lines, and a white section at the bottom. Is this a normal thing, or is my iBook trying to kill me or something? Also, I bought a G3 ibook a few days ago, but it hasn't came in yet. Does anyone know if its lcd will be compatible? Right now, I just hope the G3 ibook comes tomorrow because I am going on vacation and have a science project to work on. Also, if the G3 lcd won't work, then what will? [URL]...

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have the aluminum MacBook (<3) and it is often found on my desk, in front of my aluminum desk lamp. I was writing a paper and had one hand on my touchpad and touched my (off, but plugged in) light with my other hand. My screen dimmed just a little bit, approx the brightness between the two highest lighting levels. Even when not touching my touchpad, just touching my light, my screen did the same thing. Depending on WHERE on the lamp I touch, it affects the brightness... but only on the bell surrounding the light bulb, no other components of the light.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI bought one of these: [URL] and decided to do an experiment, now on standby (Laptop cover closed) it consumes 1.432 per night (8 hours). Laptop on standby, Cover Open but Display in Sleep mode for 8 hours costs 4.731 per day. So that means per month on standby at night, my Macbook costs 44.392. This can't be right? Because if it is, I might have to turn it off at night from now on.
View 9 Replies View Related(Electricity as in AC power.) I've been using the brightness controls (F keys) to turn off the screen at night and leave my computer running. I just assumed it uses less AC power that way and I'm saving some electricity but I don't know a lot about electricals to confirm my theory. Does anyone know?

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy magic mouse and keyboard both were not working. I pulled the battery cover over the mouse and saw that the Apple supplied batteries made quite a nice mess inside it. Did the same to the keyboard and there is a nice mess in there too. In both devices one of the batteries exploded. I was able to clean the keyboard a little bit and it will turn on, but the mouse will not. I got both of them with my 27" iMac I got a few months ago. Has this happened to anyone else, and does anyone know if Apple will replace the mouse for something like this?
View 24 Replies View RelatedI am traveling to South Africa and have heard that the power surges are a frequent occurance. In addition to the type "M" adapter should I bring a power surge protector strip and can it have several outlets? Do I need a step down transformer as well that goes between the M adaptor in the wall outlet and the power strip? Can this also be used with other electronics like the Ipod and hairdryers?

My MacBook Pro recently started to make strange noises like an electricity cable was sparkling. Today I closed the screen to move it and started to make a greater sound like an old ventilator when I opened back then it went into sleeping,?

My new 6- core mac pro will be here at the end of the week. I'm wondering if I really need a UPS for it. I've had iMac's for the past 5 years and have always had them plugged into a surge protector which has worked when an outage has happened. No damage has ever been done to my iMac or its internal hardware. How important is it to have a UPS for a mac pro? What can happen if I don't get one? Will a surge protector do the job by itself?
View 24 Replies View RelatedI live in south Florida, the lightening capital of the world.
I get concerned during the summer when very powerful storms move through.
I have my iMac and my PC connected to a 1500VA UPS. Nevertheless, Im wondering if it would be advisable to hook up a quality Belkin or Monster Surge Protector to the UPS, and my iMac connected to the surge protector.
Would this provide double the protection, or would it be a waste of money?
I have a DSL modem with the power adapter for the modem plugged into a surge protector. The phone line going into the modem is not surge protected. (I don't really care about the modem because it's a cheap piece of equipment that came with my internet service.) The thing is, I don't use the wireless function of the modem, but I use a ethernet cable from the modem directly to my MacPro. Should I be running this ethernet cable through a surge protector first, and then plugging it into my MacPro? It just dawned on me that I wasn't doing this. And I was wondering if my motherboard or something could get fried in an electrical storm if I don't do this? I would hate for something like this to happen to my precious.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm off to get a new 2010 27" i7 iMac and I'm wondering what kind of UPS to get.
From what I've read the type of PSU the iMacs use is supposed to have a power source that can provide a true sine wave, but I don't know if this is actual necessary for the iMacs in particular. I've been looking at this APC unit which provides a stepped approximation. I don't know if this will suit the current iMacs, but a UPS with a true sine wave gets to be extremely expensive.
If the iMac really does require a top of the line UPS are there any good surge protectors that can be had for $100 or less? Battery backup would be nice, but reliable surge protection is really all I need.
Like two months ago, my MBP started to work really slow when not plugged to electricity, but as soon as I plug it in, my MBP works perfectly. I already sent it to apple for they to fix it, but they solved other issued except for that one. Please, any idea what could it be.

The iMac having a maximum wattage of 350w, would it be better to plug it in a 110v outlet or a 220v outlet. Which outlet has cleaner electricity/less noise and which will make the iMac work better, last longer or operate better. Which will save money? I heard 220v is better for hight powered gadgets and appliances, at 350w, is this iMac a high powered or a low powered machine?

View 6 Replies View RelatedThe Apple one looks tempting as it comes with 6 batteries and 29€ isn't too much, plus, as usual, it looks brilliant. I looked at some 3rd party chargers as well ranging from 20€ to 40€. None of them was stunning or special by any means. Cheaper ones usually came with two or four batteries and some came without batteries. I don't really need it for else than Magic Mouse, occasionally for something else too.
View 23 Replies View RelatedI had a bad power surge (USB hub that was plugged into the back of the display had the wrong power cord plugged in... very stupid mistake I know!!) take out my 23" Cinema Display. The display shows no sign of life (no power light, etc) and the brick has been tested and is OK. My local service place says that they will have to send the display back to Apple which means a minimum of $400 for repair so I'm wondering if anyone has had a similar issue that they resolved successfully? The service place suggested that Apple would replace the logic board but is there any way to test to see if this is the main issue? I have seen logic boards sold separately online but would be hesitant to buy it without know that this would fix this issue.
