MacBook Pro :: Aluminum Surface Finish - Rough Palm Rest

I recently acquired a MacBook Pro from Apple. Its the 15" Unibody model. Upon opening it, I found that the surface of the palm rest has a rough finish to it; kinda as though it didn't go through the final polishing stage or something when it was manufactured. This rough texture feels very uncomfortable to my hands when I type, in comparison to the normal "soft" feel and texture to it that I've experienced with other Unibodies. Has anyone else experienced this with their Macs? If it matters, I got mine from a California distribution center because I got an exchange. Wasn't sure if that had to do with anything, but the seal had been broken once (but resealed with another) for what I presume was to insert the Snow Leopard drop-in DVD. I was assured it wasn't by a manager from customer support, but the computer almost seemed as though it was a refurbished model.
I am trying to find a palm rest like the one that Zagg has. I want to protect the full internal surface of the MBP 13� (palm rest and around the keyboard). Is it possible to find one of those without the other stuffs that are coming with it? I was also interested about the moshi palm rest but protect only the palm rest area.
My Macbook has the infamous crack on the palm rest, I've made a reservation at a genius bar. Could anyone tell me what has happened with their macbook when going to get this sorted? Will they have to take it away and if so how will i get back? I've heard that sometimes people have got their macs back with blank drives, I'm guessing it would be best to make a back up. Its quite an inconvenience for me not to have my Macbook during the week, is there anyway they can do this in one day?
first post! I have been lurking around the forum for quite some time. I decided to pick up a macbook pro today because I was able to get a pretty good educational discount. I have the 15" MacBook Pro top end with the matte screen.
Everything seems perfect right now. However, even when the volume is at 50%, and I play something that has bass in it, the RIGHT palm rest shakes/vibrates a lot, and you can feel it. It is a tad bit annoying. I was wondering if this was normal.
Everytime i hold the mbp up with just one hand, there would be this clicking sound. I think its near the left hand side of the palmrest. is it near the hard drive? is it of any concern? Sorry if this has been asked before but i just got my mac a month ago and am a new Mac user
I just recently noticed on my Macbook (black rev. C 2.1ghz) that there is some slight flex where the palms rest to the left and right of the trackpad. This isn't a big deal, but what made me notice this was the fact that pressing down enough on the palm rests (either side) actually registers a click with the mouse.
I noticed when I was typing and some reason the words would get highlighted. After awhile I tried pressing down on the palm rest area and it would show a click on the screen. Anyone else have this issue? It's not happening all the time and there's not major flex but it happens.
It's not a big deal, but a bit annoying so far when I'm typing and it would either click somewhere else or highlight the word and delete what I'm typing. As of now I just lifted my wrists off the rest (which I should be doing anyway). If it matters I also have the MacAlly microfiber/felt laid over the palm rest. Makes me wish I had a unibody!

After several months of use, I've noticed that the aluminum finish on my Magic Mouse (near to where my thumb and ring finger rest) seems to be flaking off or otherwise corroding somehow.
It's not a stain, as nothing I've tried will remove it.
I also noticed some slight corrosion or flaking on the topmost line of the edge (the sharper edge) of the mouse where the aluminum housing meets top of the mouse. The damage is on both sides of the mouse in either case.
Needless to say, I'm quite displeased. I take very good care of all my Apple hardware, I keep them spotless. I don't use any harsh, abrasive cleaners to keep them looking like new. My hands are usually clean - just as clean as any other user's hand. Maybe too clean. In this age of H1N1 and other various nasties floating around, hand-washing has been raised to almost obsessive levels.
I assume the Magic Mouse's finish would be durable enough to withstand regular use.
I wonder whether this has happened to anyone else.
I own a Palm Tungsten E2 PDA and have just installed the synchronization application on my MacBook Pro. However, I've attempted the first synchronization which seemed to go OK but I can't find on my Mac Pro any of the calender/address and other information that is on my Palm and should have been transferred. I've looked in iCal,Address Book and iMail but there's nothing.
my macbook pro makes a slight ticking noise when i move it or tap it just a little bit it seems like its coming from the right palm rest any thoughts, i think it maybe the hard drive or something. oh yeah 2010 mbp 2.4 ghz 320 hard drive
my macbook started to crack below the right palm rest right on the seem between the inner and outter material. It broke off, resulting in a 3-4 inch gap right along the edge. The piece that broke off is very, very thin. My left palm rest has started doing the very same a few weeks ago... I also have noticed that a friend of mine with a white macbook has the same problem. Is this some sort of recognized defect? Like would I be able to go to an Apple store and have it replaced? If so, would the mac genius be able to transfer everything as is from my current macbook to my next one (AKA all passwords saved and everything, only difference is the hardware?)
This may sound silly, but the sticky surface of the new MacBook really bothers me. I'm wondering if anyone else feels this way, and whether using something like wax might make it just slippery enough to be closer to the MacBook Pro. Any suggestions?
I have a retina mac book pro (I think model doesn't matter). My question is how to clean the surface when it gets dirty. Like to use what kind of cloth and maybe some special cleaners and etc.
This is an issue I'm starting to notice on my 10 month old Macbook Pro 13 inch. There's this "white stain" on both palm rests of the MBP. Here's some sample pictures:
It cannot be cleaned off by wiping it, water, rubbing alcohol, etc. Note that I clean my MBP daily, even hourly, I always wash my hands and dry them before using this laptop, therefore, I know it's not a matter of sanitation.
I turned on my rev C MBA using the battery power. It booted properly but soon after I logged in, my MBA suddenly went off (as if I holded the power button for a few seconds).
Then, I've decided to power cycle it. Still the same thing: it shut downs unexpectedly. The moment it shuts down is quite random, but I cannot use the Air on battery for more than a few minutes (less than 5 minutes actually).
Hence, I decided to charge it overnight. This morning, to my surprise, the charging light on the adapter was amber (not green).
So, it seems like I cannot recharge my battery. I've reset the PMU and this doesn't help. Please note that I haven't used the MBA for a few weeks, leaving it unplugged.
I don't know whether it had some impact or not on the battery.
I was installing the new Mac OSX 10.7 update for lion and also another update for my airport extreme base station. After an hour on the stage of the install that says it is installing components and moving components into place, it appeared to have frozen up. I held the power button down and started it up again and now it just makes the start up sound but never starts up. It just has a bright screen with the apple figure and the spinning clock like motion thing.Â

A couple days ago I accidentally spilled lemonade all over my room. I didn't think I had gotten any on my keyboard, but apparently I did, as some of my keys are now sticky and really hard to press. Is there any way that I can 'unstick' these myself, or do I have to take it to my nearest tech store? (fyi my keys are most sticky under the keyboard and not on top of them). The computer is a 2010 MacBook Pro. Also, is there a way to clean the surface of your keys? I'm not too thrilled about the way they look right now and I would like to try and get them back to what they looked like when I bought it.
I showed no emotion and people were asking me why lol. I really had it bottled up. The guy smacked his soft drink with his hand and it spilled onto my closed MBA. Thankfully it only made a puddle on top (like 30% of the surface of the top) of the MBA near the apple logo. Couple drops spilled off to the front right of the MBA, so just along the edges did the coke touch. Nothing inside on the screen, keys, or trackpad. I went straight to the closest bathroom and found this foam soap and paper towel. I wanted to get any remnants of the coke off, so it wouldn't get sticky or do something to the aluminum.
Today I discovered that my MBA wobbles while on a perfectly flat surface. Has anyone had this problem? I bought it in early March. It is driving me nutz while typing! I keep it in pristine condition. It doesn't even have a scratch on it and is always in it's WaterField sleeve in my messenger bag.
My Macbook is just over a week old and when I put it down onto a surface it makes a click noise which sounds to come from either the superdrive or somewhere around there! It sounds like a mechanical noise not something from the speakers! Is this normal or should I get it looked at?
I just noticed after a few weeks of using it it has these perfectly evened scratchings over the top casing even though i primarily use a wireless keyboard. im not sure if its from anything specific. i dont wear sweaters, have any bracelets, or wipe it with wool. i just had n iKlear cloth on it thats about it. i doubt im going to complain about it to apple but i was wondering since it looks like it was ingrained into the actual aluminum perhaps its in the design or fabrication of it? i just noticed it in bright natural light but otherwise cant even tell its there. this is the only other discrepancy with the umbp17 i have aside form the oily key wearing.
I got my 13" macbook pro about a month ago and have some concerns. Because my palms perspire excessively sometimes, my keyboard gets too sticky for comfort and the trackpad loses its smoothness and traction. To get around this problem, I have been using wet wipes/wet tissues to clean the surface of my macbook, particularly the keyboard and the touchpad. I sometimes use a damp cloth too. I never thought about this until I realize that there are crevices beneath every key on the keyboard and water can theoretically seep through. I have been wiping my macbook about once every day. 1. Will this have any adverse effect on the keyboard or the touchpad? 2. Even if water does seep into the thin crevices, would this corrode the interior or create rust? Will the water reach the other parts of the macbook interior, like the processor, graphics processing, DVD, RAM, etc.? 3. Yesterday I ran out of the standard wet wipes that I usually use and in place of those, I used a Dettol wipe. To my horror, it produced quite a substantial amount of foam, and I quickly wiped the blotches of foam away using tissue paper. Will my keyboard and the interior be affected in any way? I am typing this new thread on the same macbook and there are no noticeable problems, yet. I may be paranoid, but I wish to be sure. 4. Will accidental wet wipe contact with any of the periphery sockets, like the USB and firewire, lead them to malfunction in any way?
i bought a brand new mbp yesterday, and i just realized that the touchpad's surface is not smooth. when i touch there is a tiny sharp barrow. it's very tiny but since it's on the touchpad surface, it's really bothering me. do i have i chance to change the computer?
I realised the lid dosent align well with the base then i went to put my macbook pro on my desk and noticed that the computer dosent even lay flat! it rocks from the bottom left to the top right very noticeably this isnt a picky problem, the laptop should lay flat anyone else have this problem?
I've had the Rev A 64SSD for about 4-6 weeks (brand new from Apple), and last night when it reached low battery with 18 minutes left I plugged in the charger.
A couple of hours later I unplugged it and it still only had 18 minutes remaining. That was bizarre because it was obviously plugged in and switched on (the screen goes brighter once the charger is plugged in).
I tried again this morning and the same thing It only stays on if it's plugged in!
Do I need to return it? Can I go into the Apple store if I bought it online? If it does have to be sent away, do they provide a replacement?
