Today i discover that when my macbook pro screen is black and i place light behind the screen, i can see through apple logo. Is it normal ?

Couple of weeks ago my Mac Pro died. Anyway it turned out that the mother board and graphics card had over heated and failed due to dust from building work. So I've got it back from the repair shop now, the mac side is working fine, no complaints at all but bootcamp isn't so happy. When I first tried to boot into vista after getting the comp back, I restarted, selected the bootcamp icon and then the screen just went black. The light on the monitor went dim like it does when the computer is asleep and that's it. I didn't have anything important on the partition so I just removed it and repartitioned, witch seemed to go fine. But then when I put the vista disk in to install the same thing happens again. Screen goes black the CD spins up really fast but nothing else.

DVD disk: Leopard 10.5 Retail install
Hard drive: dead (spins with clicks).
With regular startup I get the flashing question mark and can hear the failed hard drive click and spin. After getting the DVD to boot in the drive (it doesn't suck it in right away), I get an apple logo and pinwheel like I should, but after about 30 seconds it goes to a black (blank) screen and the DVD spins down, but not all the way. The computer is still on, but nothing happens.
Oddities:
<>If I start it with an iMac 10.4 DVD I can boot to the install screen just fine, but can't install because it's an iMac DVD. I can erase and partition the drive fine (not the dead one, another one I have).
<>Safe mode boot does the same thing, but takes 20 times as long to boot
<>Retail OSX 10.4 DVD does not boot at all, but that one might be for PowerPC computers. I get the flashing question mark folder.
I have the Moshi Palmguard/Trackpad cover on my Black MacBook and would like to now protect the keyboard as well. I don't want those shiny marks to start showing up on my space bar. I searched the forums but didn't find any solid suggestions. Can my fellow Blackbook users point me to something I won't regret purchasing?

I am looking at purchasing an Ibook G4 but the description of the item includes this:"When you switch it on it begins to load up i.e. the blue screen with the Apple logo, but then the screen goes black or flickers. Said friend has kindly wiped the hard drive for me so now when you switch it on it makes the opening noise then you get a blue screen with alternating ? and the Finder logo."
I have a feeling this may have been a temporary fault with the screen connector being loose and possibly damaged. But i assume the alternating "?" and the "finder logo" is simply a lack of OS?
I was trying to install Windows XP Pro, but for some reason the it wasn't showing another HDD to install Windows on. So I quit the install, and restarted my computer. Now all that happens is the normal grey screen appears (with no Apple logo), then it goes to a black screen and has the blinking cursor (Kinda like DOS).
View 14 Replies View RelatedMy 20" Cinema display doesn't light up. It flashes 3 lights: short, long, short, which I believe is the error code associated with having the wrong power supply plugged in. Display has worked fine for the last few years and this is the power supply which came with the display. The periferals (keyboard/wacom) are getting power and the display doesn't work regardless of if they are plugged in or not. The display was working fine, then the powerstrip it was plugged into was switched off accidentaly. Now it no longer functions. I don't know if the power cord is dead or the brick, but some power must be getting through.

My early 2008 24" has suddenly developed a problem - screen has gone black (initially it was 'black' with backlight on, now not even a backlight) The machine has Lion installed but it came with 10.5.2. I can access the machine via screen sharing & it all runs fine so I want to determine what is wrong with it. I dropped in my original grey system discs, pressed 'D' on start-up, nothing. It seems Lion no longer supports Hardware Test from discs on older machines. How I can run hardware test on this machine?

I was using my friend's MacBook pro last night and the screen suddenly won't work. I will pay for the repair but is there anything that I can do at home to fix it? I wanted to remove the battery like I do with my own laptop(pc) which usually works to reboot or fix a problem but there is not way to remove the Mac's battery )?

I used to see them, but now they are the generic iTunes icon. I'm not sure if it's because I moved them to a different folder or what, but it lost that option.

Upon initial restart after installation, the grey screen with the Apple icon comes up and gets stuck there. I have tried to power down and get to disk utility to try repairing permisions but it always goes to the log on screen not the recovery mode. All user ID's get a pop up that says 'you are unableto log in to the user account'x' at this time. Logging in to the account failed because an error occurred. The spinning wheel spinns by the PW the whole time the error box is up but goes away when you click OK. It also knows if you put in an incorrect PW or not Have mac mini server 10.7 and an airport extreme the net was really slow at first on other nodes so I had to move to the guest net I cannot logon to the aitport cause it is single sinon enabled Worked yesterday not today after sleeping I can log onto my Wiki page with users though?

My disc drive isn't working at all - it doesn't even accept the disc or make a noise to accpet it/eject it. It doesn't make any noise when I click the eject button or do anything.
I had a repair done to my mac a few weeks ago when the graphics card stopped working, I've only just attempted to put a disc in since - I don't know if the repair could have effected it at all.

I just ordered a new aluminum macbook and wanted to get a microfiber cloth to put over the keyboard when it's closed. The only ones I can find in the store are part of a 30 dollar set that contains a bunch of stuff I don't want/need. Anybody know a good place to get one of these?
View 23 Replies View RelatedI was reading through some posts about protecting a MBP and a poster mentioned he was getting a cover for his keyboard so as not to damage the screen. I heard about this before a long time ago, but how common is it now with the new uMB or uMBP. I just changed sides for the better so be nice please. 13" 2.53
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy 2002 iBook G3 notebook with OS X3.9 started acting up on me finally! 2 days ago I turned it on and it sounds like it is starting up normally, but when the screen comes on, it just stays lit up and black - I tried everything, from trying to adjust the brightness, to restarting it a zillion times to completely draining the battery and then restarting it again, nothing seems to work right! I thought it may be the backlight, but then the light does come on, and stays on - the apple logo on the back stays lit up even when I close the notebook.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMacbook screen went black even though the mac booted up properly - from the startup sounds. I took the back cover off and checked the power connector - it looked just slightly angled out so it probably was getting intermittent power [over last 2 weeks it would come on and but sometimes not until it died completely today]. Anyway, once I took the back cover off from the back [above the battery] and made sure the connector was secure it worked fine now. Might be a good tip for someone vs the time to go to the apple store.

It's on the black strip around the edges just above the black Apple Logo.See my picture for what it looks like (you'll have to look closely to see it):I'm interested to see your responses of what it could be/is. I've only had the machine for going on for 3 days now so I'm new to the whole iMac thing.

View 4 Replies View RelatedSo I got my Moshi Anti-Glare screen cover for my late 08 15" uMBP. I like it. It DOES make a difference, and I like having a little protection for my screen. It makes the blacks a little more grey, mostly noticeable in natural light and if you're looking at the screen from a bit of an angle. It's not as prominent from dead on. Honestly, I didn't like it immediately after I put it on. Of course, I just dropped 40 bucks on it so I wasn't about to get rid of it! Now it looks totally natural to me. I didn't take pictures of the actual cover before I installed it, but it was a breeze. Came with a little microfiber cloth to get dust/prints off before you install. The adhesive is only on the black border of the screen. No air bubble issues at all, and it lines up super easy. On the cover, the border is also black, but clears out to show the MacBook Pro on the bottom. For the iSight camera, it clears and ALSO has a hole for the lens, so there is nothing covering your camera (which was a concern of mine. I would have just cut a hole for it, but I appreciate not having to bust out scissors) it's a little disappointing in intense natural light, like in the picture, but it really shines in an office environment. I'm ok with that, since that's where all my eye-strain was coming from. If I do any work with natural light that I can't control with blinds or moving to another couch, it's not gonna be that serious. Overall, I'd love to not spend 40 bucks for a piece of thin plastic, but no sense in complaining about the Mac accessory market now =) I do recommend it, and if for some reason I get another glossy notebook, I will be getting this most definitely.... though I think I'll be better off getting an anti-glare screen from the get go.

Build-quality wise the unibodies are really as perfect as I've ever experienced any machine to be. Simply amazing. BUT, the black plastic hinge cover is cheap and creaks as soon as I grab the computer or open the display. I opened her up to see if there was anything I could do to reinforce it or something, but I didn't want to mess with it.
Quite a few seem to have this 'issue' and I thought maybe somebody has figured out a solution?Such a shame on an otherwise perfect machine. I would have preferred the same kind of rubbery plastic that was on the old generation MBP
