well i use a second monitor at work. I drag zbrush over the second monitor. yesterday i left in a hurry and just unplugged the second monitor. when i got home and wanted to work some more, but my Zbrush app window is caught between spaces. it's virtually off-screen.
I can see it come by when i switch from space 1 to space 2.
All of a sudden a few days ago my window on my MacBook pro expanded and now does not fit all at one time on the screen. I must have done something but do not know what. How to get the window to fill the screen so I don't have to move the window back and forth to see everything.
On my MBP, when I bring up an application or connect to the internet the window is much smaller than my actual screen size even when I click on the + to make it bigger. How do I increase it's size to fit the screen?
The green button on top of my safari browser doesnt always do the same operation. Sometimes the window maximizes to fill the screen and sometimes it just doubles in size. How do I maximize the window to fill the screen everytime?
After what seemed to be an improper shutdown my Macbook will not boot. I have tried using fsck to no avail. Booting to the leopard dvd causes it to restart. Flashing PRAM doesnt seem to help and it will not boot into safe mode.
My work and Home MAC PRO are both doing the same stuff. The screen goes black and when I have an opened window it repeates itself when I drag it throughout the screen?
How do I open a small window on my screen that allows me to type in a word, and that word is then highlighted every time it appears in the text on the page I'm in? I've seen it done before. It makes searching an internet wall much easier when your looking for something particular.
Info: MacBook Pro (17-inch 2.4 GHz), OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)
recently a friend of mine offered to update my 2009 MacBook to Mac osx Lion. when I received the computer back from him, it required a rather large update that has put my MacBook in a terrible state.
upon rebooting from the update, it froze at the grey Apple loading screen, and of course I thought nothing of it and gave it a little restart. Since then I cannot get it past the grey screen or the login window. it seems as though I cannot type in my password or click 'sleep' or any option the window gives me. I've been working on this issue all day, and I've tried countless things from the apple support community, with no avail.
I've tried clearing the cache, I've tried safe mode, I've tried the command+option+control+enter trick on the login page, I'm even trying to boot from the install disc my friend gave me...and it's just refusing to move past the grey screen.
My old work PC had an application running which added a small < button to the menu bar next to the restore, min and max buttons which, when clicked would move that window to the adjacent screen.
Is there an app like this for OS X? I'm really looking for something I can evoke with a keyboard shortcut like spaces that simply moves the selected window to the same position on the adjacent screen so i don't have to constantly leave the keyboard to move windows around.
Have an irritating program that have a portion disappear at the bottom of my screen. I can't resize it and applescript is reporting a problem when I use this sort of code:
set bounds of first window to {0, 0, 200, 200}
What to do? Already tried scrapping the plist and it doesn't work.
i had firefox open and i was typing on another site. i opened the special characters window because i needed a unique symbol. when i tried closing that window, it froze. i proceeded to quit firefox so it would go away. it stayed on my screen though, even with firefox closed. next i thought my computer was just being buggy. so, i completely shut it down for a while and logged back on. the window is still there and won't go away.
here's a screenshot i took so you can visually see what's going on here: [URL}
after the previous attempts didn't work i've tried completely removing firefox from my computer and redownloading it, which didn't work, and restoring my system, which also didn't work.
I use the F9 key to show all my open apps and one of the apps I have open is off the screen! and I can't find a way to drag it back. I used to have the laptop connected to second monitor creating duals which might explain it but once you take off the second monitor shouldn't all the apps show on the main screen??
If this has happened to anyone let me know!! I'm trying to find a way to fix it.
I recently switched from Windows, and while I love OSX overall, I miss the ability to make a window fill the screen. I don't want to do it all the time, but want to be able to do it when I'm focusing on a single program, or want to use as much screen real estate as possible.
Are there any plugins, programs, or Automator settings that would allow me to do this?
Just set up my new Mac Pro with two 30" LCDs. Are there any apps that would help snapping windows to quarters, thirds, or halves of the screen? -- or perhaps saving a workspace-worth of apps? Or is there some secret OSX functionality towards this?
I've googled and found such apps for Ubuntu and Windows, but nothin for our Leopard!
I'm not sure if I'm phrasing this right. I work on an external monitor connected to my macbook, set to 1920 resolution. I was using Itunes stretched out to fill the whole monitor at that resolution. Upon switching to the macbook, the itunes window is now too large when I switch to the macbook display. I can't even see the bottom right handle that you normally drag to resize the window. Clicking on the + button doesn't help, as it only shrinks Itunes to the mini player. How can I get itunes back to a smaller window size?
I have RightZoom, so when I click Maximize it always fills the whole screen. I hide my Dock unless I mouse over it, and my windows won't maximize over the bottom 5 pixels of the screen. I drag the bottom right corner of the window, and it doesn't make it any bigger.
I love customizing my Mac and tinker with its preferences so I guess I had this one coming, although it's my first major mistake.
I'm running Mac OS 10.5 and I downloaded a loginwindow.bundle from deviantart to customize my login window but I realized too late that it was for Snow Leopard. What I ended up doing was:
- I replaced the original loginwindow.bundle with the one I downloaded; and
- I replaced the original com.apple.loginwindow.plist with the one included above.
- Thankfully, I made a backup of the original files which I kept in my Documents folder.
I then logged out and ... the login window never appeared, just a black blue screen and that round loading thingy at the bottom. I'm sure that's the only cause of my problem. (If it helps, I don't have autologin enabled, so I have two accounts to choose from before I can login.)
I've tried booting in single user mode and in safe mode but neither works.
I've narrowed down my options.
1. Use some commands in single-user mode to replace the new loginwindow.bundle and loginwindow.plist with the old ones, which are in my Documents folder (like in Terminal). Thing is, I don't know how to do this, if ever it's possible; OR
2. Use my Bootcamp partition (thank God for Bootcamp!) to manually do the abovementioned option with Transmac, which I already tried. Unfortunately, I can't write to my Mac OS partition since it's read-only, which leads me to the problem of having to change it to read-write via single-user mode.
I have an old G4, think its a powerMac, not sure. It was given to me. When i try to boot up, its loading up, but its stuck at "login window starting" screen.
1. Is there any way to be able to maximize a window to fullscreen by dragging the bottom right corner, like say a browser window, but have the dock overlap it? Auto-hide on the dock is too slow. If I have the dock on auto-hide, stretch a browser to full screen, then unhide the dock.. the dock does what I want and overlaps the maximized window. However as soon as I open a new window, or minimize/maximize the browser window, or hit the zoom button, it resizes so that it does not overlap the dock. It's annoying to lose 3/4" of vertical space on the bottom just for the dock..
2. Is there a keyboard shortcut for to mute the audio? I know there's a dedicated fn button on the MBP but I have a logitech 8 button mouse and on my PC the logitech software gave me "mute" as an option for what a button could do. Unfortunately I'm unable to get the logitech software working on my Mac so I downloaded Steermouse which is great but doesn't give me volume control options for my mouse buttons unless there's some kind of keyboard shortcut that exists?
3. Is there really no keyboard shortcut for the undo command???? That seems kind of crazy. It's blank in every application I've check, yet there's a keyboard shortcut for redo.
4. Is there anyway to remap cmd-x/c/v to ctrl-x/c/v like on a pc? The command button is so close, this is definitely one function that is better on a PC.
5. Is there a way to change the default file manager from finder to something else? I downloaded Macintosh Explorer and really like it, but everytime I open a folder on my desktop it opens it in finder (which I strongly dislike).
I've been using a plugin for firefox (on my PC) called screengrab, but the plugin isn't available on FireFox for mac.
It's an awesome plugin - basically it allows you to take a screenshot of an entire window in firefox, no matter how long it is. So far it's the only plugin I've found that let's you do it within firefox. I know there's a utility for OSX that lets you input a URL and it gives you a full page screenshot, but the problem is a lot of the time I need a screenshot from a website I'm logged into (email, college transcript, forums, etc.) so the app is somewhat useless in that regard since it doesn't work if you need to login.
its a PC and i know this is a mac only forum but i dont have the time to sign up for another forum. anyways, i boot the pc, it brings me to a menu where it has the options to boot in safe mode, boot normally, etc. i choose boot windows normally and it starts to load windows, however, it freezes about 5-10 seconds into the loading screen and it brings me back to the same boot menu. idk what to do!
