Long story short, Mac froze so i restarted it. It loaded up with a progress bar at the bottom of the screen (I presume its safe mode?) before entering the login screen. My Dock did not appear and I haven't been able to put it back onto my screen.In addition to this problem, I am unable to do software updates and if I open up new tabs on Safari, it automatically quits the application.

Dock hiding just doesn't work any more. Specifically, the dock WILL hide, but it won't return when I need it to. You can move the cursor to the bottom of the screen (where my dock presently is), and nothing happens. This has happened before, but now it happens consistently. It's awfully frustrating. A couple of times today, hiding wouldn't turn on, either (that is, the dock just wouldn't hide at all), but that's sortof a moot point, since if it HAD hidden, it wouldn't have reappeared.
View 1 Replies View Relatedin the past week or so this minor problem began to occur. expose suddenly doesn't work, my hidden dock won't appear when I move my mouse to the bottom of the screen, when I move my mouse over my bookmarks in Safari, they don't "highlight" like usual, my mouse pointer arrow doesn't change to the "hand" when moving over links, etc. This is very strange, when I click Safari at the top of my screen I actually have to hold down the left click to scroll down to "preferences" or "quit" or whatever. i can't single click and just drag down. i have to actually click and hold.

Instead of the window minimizing and taking up even more room on the dock, it just hides in the already existing icon (in this case the active window hides in the safari icon). When I click minimize on the actual window this happens:
Now Safari is taking up two spaces on my dock. Is there any way to make it so every time, no matter what the window is, if you click minimize or even exit, it hides the window as opposed to minimizing it and wasting a dock space?
I really need help with this; I've searched "iphoto won't open" and many other variations of that, but I haven't found anything the same as my situation. When I click the iPhoto icon on the dock, it bounces once... and then stops, without opening or doing anything else. It does the same if I open it through finder->applications. It's driving me crazy!! I have a MacBook with Tiger OS X 10.4.11, iPhoto 7.1.5 and NO tech experience.

Ive just done an archive and install on my computer today becuase my safari was like that and now my it works. Only problem now is itunes, ive tried uninstalling and deleting every itunes folder(no worries i backed it up)

I've noted also that switching applications via command+tab doesn't show the icons of the applications, and when accessing "Notifications", it doesnt draw correctly on the screen (the area of the notifications center appears on the right of the screen, but an extension of the notifications is also drawn under hte desktops icons).

I tried to sign out and sign in again but that didn't work . I've been trying to change my docks theme for the past few days but have been unable. I've used Candybar, Dock Library etc. and none of them seem to work. I'm really annoyed because it used to work for me. Any suggestions on how I can remedy this problem?
View 7 Replies View RelatedToday the OS X dock on my late '08 MacBook Pro 15" stop working like normal. It used to be, when an App was open, the icon would appear in the dock with a sort of highlight.
Now, the apps run fine but no longer appear in the dock. If I minimize it, it does show as a running app in the left hand side, but that isn't what I want it to do. Is there a quick way to get it to work again?
Very suddenly my dock has disappeared, (and occasionally reappears), and is now completely non-useable. Why..? I have created other accounts on my computer previously and the dock on those is fine...I have looked in Activity monitor and it flashes on and then disappears in there.I tried using terminal to 'killall Dock', but this did nothing...Am using Leopard on Alu iMac.
So i changed the color of my dock with dock doctor and i tried to change it back to default but it wont do it. Any ideas?

Eventually I looked at CPU usage in activity monitor and it said that the dock was using 101.xx%. I killed it and it seems to have worked. My question is, why was this happening and is that normal?

I am using a 15" MacBook Pro Santa Rosa (mid 2007), 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 6 GB memory, with a 240GB OWC Mercury Extreme Pro SSD (15 months old). Lion 10.7.3. Computer doesn't boot into Safe Mode AND also if it "goes to sleep by itself" (I don't touch it for a while, then it falls asleep) after some time when I try to wake it up I get the Spinning Ball of Death or a black screen and the only thing I can do is press the power button for some seconds to power off. It wakes up OK if I, either close the lid or Apple icon-> Sleep.
WHEN TRY TO BOOT INTO SAFE MODE: Immediately after the startup chime I press the Shift key, after 2-3 seconds get the login window, key in my password. Instead of logging in, it goes to a screen with the Apple icon, underneath it, the Apple spinning gear and underneath that a loading bar. After quite some time the loading bar disappears, the gear goes on spinning for a LONG time, then black screen, startup chime again and login window. Then, when I key in my password, it just logs in as usual, no safe mode.
I tried to write in Terminal “sudo nvram boot-args="-x"”, BIG mistake! It got my computer into a loop of those screens. I don’t exactly remember what eventually got me out of this loop (I think I booted from a clone, then started with the Lion CD and wrote back “sudo nvram boot-args=""” in Terminal. Also set up an additional administrator account but all was the same. Tried verify/repair disk, everything OK. Eventually I erased completely the HD (not Recovery HD) reinstalled Tiger, Snow Leopard and Lion again, downloaded all applications/software/programs I had, from scratch and only copied the data from a backup, being sure that after that all problems will be over, but... everything like it was, no "normal sleeping" and no SM booting.

Got an MBA a while back (Mid February), and am just now migrating out of my old Dell into my MBA. I find myself in a quandary -- buy bluetooth accessories or invest in a dock for the MBA.
I heard the Kensington sd200v dock is nice, and OS X drivers are in beta. Anyone running this setup on their Mac? I really need the ability to unplug and go at the drop of a hat. The prospect of outputting graphics for an extended desktop, audio, and a USB hub all through one USB connection is VERY attractive. Needless to say, it will all be in vain if I need to reset my graphics properties every time a disconnect and reattach. I have no experience with Kensington products, and ma curious how well they function in the Mac environment.

View 15 Replies View RelatedI can't get any of the apps off the dock. I've tried clicking and dragging them outside the dock and a little cloud of smoke appears near the mouse cursor. But then, When I release the app, it just pops back to the dock. I have tried dragging it to the trash too.
Basically I changed my dock to look like it was wood, not the usual grayish transparency one. It all worked. However, when I moved it from the bottom of the screen to the right of the screen, it goes back to the original dock. And even if I then try to change it to the wood-like one, or even any other dock, it just doesn't change. I know, trivial, but it's just bugging me. Why?
The above is solved. However, then I went to try and find some replacement docks for 2D? If that's what you call it - but I can't find anything. What I have done is put the dock on the right hand side, making it 2D, and all I have been able to find searching the net are 3D replacement docks. Does anyone know how I can possibly change the dock when it's on the right (or left) side? I want to make it transparent, or at least a little lighter.
How can I remove iCal from dock? It only has an option to hide, nothing to remove from dock.

They have terrible file management skills and the short version is that they tend to use the desktop as a documens folder. I'm working on this but in the mean time there is a problem where when they save a file from e-mail or what have you it goes to the desktop. Which has items in the first 8 positions. The ninth position is behind the dock and rather then moving up to the next column it goes right behind the dock.
