MacBook Pro :: White Blotch Under The Screen / Knocked Over A Glass Of Tea

Dec 16, 2010

I accidentally knocked over a glass of tea on to my Macbook, I cleaned it up and everything seemed fined. I packed it up put it in my bag I get home and now it has a white blotch (appears to be under the screen). I turned my Mac off and had it on it's side over night and it seemed to help a little but still very much there. Has anyone had this same problem? If so, is their a fix or is this something Apple should take care of?

MacBook Pro :: Knocked Over Glass Of Water In The Dark

Dec 22, 2009

Knocked over a glass of water in the dark and a small puddle seeped under my MacBook pro - I quickly covered it I'm a towel and cleaned it up, it was barely wet at all, but when I tried to start it up the screen was blank. I blowdried it and tried again but still the screen is blank - when I boot it up the White light on the front turn on, the computer songs eerily quiet, the light goes off, then comes back on again, stays on and although the computer sounds like it's whirring it's still completely blank.

IMac :: Chip In Glass Behind Screen - What If They Only Replace The Glass But Get Dust?

Aug 11, 2010

there is a small chip behind the glass of my 27" imac. It's about the size of a small crumb or the eye of a small needle. It's hard to see, but it's definitely there. Today is my last day to get the imac replaced or repaired. I have a feeling if I bring it in that they will see there's no reason to swap out the entire imac, and if there is I would have to wait awhile because it's a custom high end one so they don't have the specsI'm worried if they swap the glass that it's just some 19 year old kid that does it and he won't be careful with the screen and will get dust, finger prints, etc. on the glass making it worse.

MacBook Pro :: Little Piece Of White Dust Behind Glass

Aug 13, 2010

So I was cleaning off my new Macbook Pro (a month old) the other day and noticed one spot wouldn't clean, I figured it may have been something stuck on there so I tried a little harder with no luck. I must of missed it, but there's a little piece of white dust (about 1px or so in size) behind the glass . I'm going to try to ignore it, but it's a little hard when you're as OCD about your electronics as I am, whenever I turn on my Mac it seems that my eyes drift over there. It isn't even that bad in my opinion, when I sit at a normal distance it's nearly unnoticeable, it's only when I look for it that I can see it.

MacBook Pro :: Screen Got Dust Or Whatever Behind Glass?

Oct 12, 2009

Well when I turn my screen off then I get a clearly visible 'thing' on my screen. The reason why I call it a 'thing' is because I have no idea what it is and how it got there. Can't I be something 'pitched' my screen and the back ledscreen cracked? Because I don't think dust can get behind the glass, both the behind screen and the glass have this "thing". It's luckily not big, may be 2 mm2. I got applecare so I guess apple will fix this for me? right? But it is kinda silly that ill have to lose my macbook for 3 weeks just for that little thing, but I'll have to because I can't clean it myself I guess.

MacBook Pro :: Dust Particle Under Glass Of Screen

Aug 2, 2010

So I bought a Macbook Pro 15" i5 at the weekend and it arrived this morning. This is my first ever Mac, but I followed the battery calib etc., before playing. I turned it on, set everything up and found something that stood out like a sore thumb on the screen (and I'm always on white background forums/websites). At first I thought it was a dead/stuck pixel, called Apple and they told me to take it to an authorised dealer to do some tests on it. However, I turned the screen off and looked, and it's definitely a spec of dust under the glass! This is my first Mac and this is not a good experience so far. What were Apple's QC unit doing? Shall I take it to the AD to have a look at it, and what do you think they will do? Or shall I ring Apple again in the morning? It's currently 11:15pm here in UK. I bought it under Higher Education discount, so I guess if i return it for a refund, I won't be able to buy any other Pro?

MacBook Air :: Is The Screen Itself Plastic Or Glass And Does It Scratch Easily

But I hear that the Airs don't have the glass covering of the Pro... Is the screen itself plastic or glass and does it scratch easily?

MacBook Pro :: Increasing Screen Brightness By Removing Glass Layer

Apr 5, 2010

I have a Macbook Air and the new 13" macbook pro. I see that the Macbook Air is much brighter than the 13" macbook pro (under the same ambient lighting, both set to maximum brightness). I was told the reason for this difference is because of the lack of the glass layer on the Air. Is that really true ? If so, can you please let me know if I'd be able to get the same brightness I get on the Air on the Pro also by just removing the glass layer on my 13" macbook pro. TechRestore offers such a service for $134, which is simply a subset of their service for matte replacement (I don't want the matte replacement as I like the glossy screen). But since such a service would void my warranty and return policy, I want to be really sure before getting it done with them. I'd greatly appreciate any inputs/advice.

MacBook Pro :: "Matte" Screen: Just The Glossy Screen W/ Out The Glass?

Feb 21, 2010

I was looking at the MBPs in an Apple store and I noticed that the "matte" screen seemed to be the same display as the "glossy", just with the glass removed and a silver bezel installed.

To me it seems that Apple is charging customers an extra $50 to simply remove the glass. Anyone know if this is true?

MacBook :: MacBook Screens - Having Glass Over The Entire Screen

She doesnt need a backlit keyboard or SD slot as its mainly for web browsing and average use. My question is does the new MacBook have glass over the entire screen/front bezel like my MBP does? I really like that as it makes cleaning the screen a LOT easier and seems to make the colors pop.

IMac :: Tiny Bug Behind Glass Screen?

May 14, 2009

I was watching a movie today, and noticed a dot on the screen. I scrubbed it hardcore, and it didn't go away. I freaked out because it might be a stuck pixel. After close observation, there are tiny extensions (probably its feet) around the 1-2 pixel size bug. I've taken a screen capture, but the bug is not displayed on it. Is it actually a bug? Should I take the glass off and exterminate the thing?

IMac :: 21.5" Gap In Glass - Screen?

Nov 21, 2009

I purchased an iMac 21.5" recently and unfortunately it came with a dead pixel(black) and I can see some hot pixels, also. Can these hot pixels be dust though?

In top-middle part of the screen(where iSight is located) the glass that protects the screen actually has a gap. I mean, in the right and left parts the glass seem to be more stuck than in the middle part.

Actually I can even put my nail inside the glass and I suppose, it can be removed if a lot of pressure is applied. Are all iMacs supposed to be like that?
Maybe dust gets through there so that's why I see these "hot" pixels.

Do not tell me to remove the frame and clean it up, it's one day old. I just want to know if it is supposed to have that small gap on the top center part.

MacBook :: When I Move Screen Up Or Down A White Thin Line Flashes Across The Screen?

there are two things that the macbook is doing to me. one is that sometimes when i move the screen up or down (the hinge is rather stiff) a white (thin) line flashes across the screen. but recently, while randomly browsing through the internet, the screen almost... i guess faded to a gray screen, but like gradually, and not like a kernel error, like the display just faded away. happened twice in a row, did a battery pull and now wont do it again.

OS X :: Trying A Firewall Has Knocked Me Offline?

Dec 8, 2009

A couple of days ago, I thought I'd try a 3rd party firewall to beef up security on my 2008 MBP running 10.6.2 on an ethernet connection using a router (nothing changed there).

I installed Little Snitch, tweaking its settings (don't remember what I tweaked) to customize it to my preferences as I went thru two 3-hour demo periods. Then I uninstalled it (using its own uninstall). I also tried Noob Proof to see if a free program might serve, but wasn't happy with that one, and uninstalled it using AppCleaner.

At some unknown point during this 24 hour period, I lost my internet connection, and I can't get it back.

Things I've tried:

-Ran network diagnostics several times - it says I've got a good connection, and Activity Monitor shows small amounts of data being sent and received.

-Turned Mac's firewall off & back on a few different times. Can't get online even when the firewall is off.

-Turned on the guest account and logging into it. Can't get online thru the guest account either.

-Re-installed Snow Leopard just in case it might re-set whatever is wrong.

-Looked at LOTS of logs (including Little Snitch's log) to see if I could find the source of the trouble, but while no dummy, I'm also not an expert at reading logs.

-I've also tried connecting to Software Update for a direct connection, thinking maybe it was a browser issue, but can't get connected to anything, anywhere, anyhow.

Any ideas?

IMac :: There's An Ant Stuck B/w The Glass And Screen On My 27"?

Jun 17, 2010

I wish I could take a picture of it, but every picture that I've taken so far has developed into a blurry hue. At, first, I thought the screen was just dirty, until upon closer examination did I discover that this little ******* is an ant. It's stuck between the glass and actual monitor directly below the Safari icon in the dock that I have left at the bottom of the screen. I have a feeling that it crawled in through the speakers on the bottom of the monitor, next to where the ram modules sit. I hope it's not planning to nest and start an entire colony on my i7 8GB iMac! That would suck.

IMac :: Matt Screen Film Or Glass Removal

Jun 18, 2010

I've read quite a lot about the glossy screens on iMacs and advice offered has been to use a 3m matt film product or remove the glass from the front. Is anyone actually using either of those 2 methods successfully with their iMac? The 3m matt film sounds like it might be awkward to fit without airbubbles etc and might affect sharpness/colour etc Removing the glass from the front could make the screen vulnerable when using things like calibrator devices that need to sit on the screen to work, I don't care what it looks like BTW

Power and features wise the i7 iMac is all the computer I need but need a matt screen is no good for me. I will splurge on a macpro and monitor but its just more than I need and so would prefer the saving
