MacBook Pro :: Unibody Waking Up And Not Connecting To Wireless Automatically
Feb 10, 2009
I recently reinstalled MAC OS X on my unibody MBP. I've installed all the updates and it's been working fine until now. When it goes to sleep automatically I press a key and it wakes up then the Airport icon in the bar at the top of the desktop stays greyed out. I have to go in and manually connect to my router each time the machine wakes from sleep.

On Feb 18th 2012 4 new updates automatically installed. Since then, whenever I wake the Imac from sleep mode I have to manually re-connect to my wi-fi. Prior to the updates it did this automatically. I see nothing in Network or Airport Utility that controls this ("automatic" is already checked where appropriate). I'm running OS X Lion.

so my University uses the lovely Cisco VPN Client. Easy to get it working, not a big deal, but it annoys me that I need to start it manually every time I switch wifi networks and such. Is there a way to automate this? I want to connect to the VPN whenever the Airport logs into one of the University's wifi networks. The Cisco client also supports command-line mode, so I could write a script for that. But the big question is: is there a "connected to wifi network" event I can hook into using AppleScript or something.

I bought a new unibody Macbook pro in December and have had it linked to a Dell 2408WFP for 4 months now (dell monitor as primary monitor, macbook as slave via apple mini displayport to DVI adapter) and I am also using the dell USB ports to hook up my apple wired keyboard and logitech revolution MX mouse. Problems occurring ever since the beginning include: Occasionally the computer refuses to wake up either screen. It may flash blue and look like its going to come out of sleep (or monitor shut off) with no problems but then hangs. This is intermittent and I cant seem to trouble shoot what causes it. On top of that, more frequently, the Macbook screen looks washed out (loss of colour depth). It doesnt flash and there are no blank/white areas of screen, just very poor colour depth. This can occur even coming out of screen saver mode. It seems to correct itself with time or disconnecting the dell monitor. Main programs I always leave open are Firefox +/- Transmission. Seems to happen regardless of programs being open or not. Have updated everything that Software Update can find to update. Anyone else having these problems or have any ideas how to fix?

When I wake my two-week-old MacBook Pro up, my Airport Base Station's wireless network shows connection, but I do not have internet for a much, much longer period of time than normal. This only started a few days ago. Prior to that, it was working just fine.
I've tried closing my browser (Chrome), starting another browser (Safari), and restarting. All of these attempts have met with success and failure. Sometimes, doing nothing and waiting for ~2 minutes does the trick.I'd simply like my MBP to connect to the internet ASAP upon waking up. I did no software upgrades recently

I had this problem since I used the power schedule to shut down my mac a day after I went on vacation. Now every morning I see the macpro awaken from sleep mode. The mouse is in it's stand so it can't be that. I disabled everything in power settings.

My computer used to connect to the internet straight away as it was turned on (wireless), but after a problem with downloading rental films with Itunes store, it has stopped connecting automatically. The fix for the film rentals was to delete a file called SC i think. I have had a dig around in all the network tabs

I use my MBP a lot in clamshell mode (hooked up to external ACD along with external keyboard and mouse) but I noticed the wi-fi reception is absolutely terrible when the lid is closed ...
Anyone have any idea why this is the case? (I assume the antenna not being as exposed as it would be when the lid is open)Or can this be solved with a software fix?

I have a MacPro and a Macbook. Recently I used the sharing function to play a game with my friend where I connected the two computers to a shared folder. I also installed Hamachi and used that for creating a VPN-network. Now I have erased the shared folder, uninstalled Hamachi and disabled the sharing function, but my MacPro still automatically tries to connect to my Macbook. The message is as following "There was a problem connecting to the server "MickiMacbook". "The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP adresss, check your network connection, and then try again". Â
I don't really understand why it keeps doing this as I've deleted all of the previously used programs. I've also deleted all of the files in /Library/PDF Services: but that did not work.

When I turn away from my MacBook Air to do something and turn back, I find the machine in standby mode (blank screen). I press the power button to restore access, provide the login password to re-join my "sleeping" session. I'm then presented with a "list" of one Wireless host which I must select, then "join" before I can proceed to use my browser etc.
Is there a way, that I can eliminate the tedious task of specifying from a list of one then explicitly "joining" the network? I'd think there would be an option to "always join this network if available" option that would make life easier, but I have not a clue as to where I would set that. I'm admittedly new to the Mac OS (10.7.2) and the Mac experience in general.

I've updated my wireless rounter and also decided to not have it broadcast the network.I can connect to the router no problem by using the option "connect to other network".I also have the box checked that says, remember this network, but my macbook doesn't automatically reconnect after it sleeps or when I turn it off. Would love to understand how to make my macbook automatially reconnect so I don't have to go through the extra steps of reloggin on each time.

So a friend of mine just bought an iMac and is trying to use it on her wireless network. Before the iMac was bought she could use the wireless network I. Her house fine but since the iMac got hooked up the computers can't be online at the same time.
If the MacBook is on and the iMac is off the Internet works on the MacBook and vice versa. Is there anyway a firewall is preventing both computers from connecting to the same wireless network? If so, is there anything you can do to help me out to get them both working properly?A netgear router that was provided by time warner is being used and I'm not sure if y'all need anymore information than that.

Airport sucks. A lot. It works just fine in WEP or unprotected networks, but WPA-PSK it doesn't do a damn thing. It shows it as connected with a full signal, but Safari, iChat, etc... won't connect to the internet. For some reason Azureus works, but it's going at an amazing 146 bytes/sec and then back down to 0. What's going on here guys? This is my first Mac and I am sorely disappointed in Airport.

I need to know how I can set up a system so that I can use the printer and browse the internet wirelessly on the MacBook Pro and have the non-wireless PC connect to the internet and use the printer as well.
It sounds confusing, so hopefully one of you guys will be able to understand it and maybe quickly draw a labeled diagram to show me.

I have an HP office jet J4680. I have used it wirelessly by being connected to my time capsule network and printing from my macbook for over a year now. I just moved and changed the name of my time capsule and the printer is no longer connected. I have looked around on how to select the new network but I don't see this option. How can I link the printer with the network again?

I am a new intern with a small company and am trying to connect my Macbook Pro's printer settings to our office printer, which is a LanierLD145. We halso have an HP3600 on the same wireless network which my Macbook can detect and print to just fine via the shared network server. However, when I try to find the LanierLD145 I can't find it anywhere on my shared network or via a wireless to connection in order to print to it from my laptop.
I have access to the desktop I believe the printer is routed to the server through and have "shared printer with network" via this computer. However, I still cannot find the LD145 icon on my macbook when I try to connect and print, even when going through the "Windows"-> (shared server) route. I've also installed apple's "general lanier printer driver" in hopes have luck finding the printer if I have the driver installed, but that has not worked either. How I can connect the macbook to the LanierLD145 via my wireless server connection?

I'm using a Macbook Pro OS X and was wondering if there is a way to stop my airport/wireless internet from automatically connecting to the internet when i start my computer.I want it so that it disconnects from the internet when i close the lid and for it to stay disconnected until i manually reconnect it myself again. I'm currently connected to shared internet which does not require me to enter a password.
